The zumalt class Destroyer had a unique 155 gun can you cover this and its possible application on other platforms as its fate seems to be tied to the Destroyer ATM
Hello. Nice to see video about our brothers Slovaks. As Czech I have question. Will you do similar video about Czech armed forces? It would be interesting tho idk if you ever planned to do it.
@@V.B.Squire Never been a Navy guy
@@BattleOrderHere's a short as there's not much on the Guns specifically or why they can't be developed separately from the Zumalt Project.
T&P Cappy did a good one on the zumalt as a class but I don't think anyones done a full video on the gun specifically you could be the first.
If its as good as they say and they've already done the R&D it should be rolled out across

I think the biggest argument in favour of the Zuzana 2 is that it is very cool looking.
Can't argue with that

Slovak here, I absolutely love that this video exists, I've always wondered what is the structure of our artillery regiments because we, sadly dont have much else
A strength of NATO is that many members can specialize. The French have lots of light and fast units, the Dutch and Canadians are excellent submarine-hunters, the British have excellent heavy infantry, and so on.
If the Slovaks specialize into the eastern NATO artillery park, then y'all can be 'those guys we call when we need something obliterated'. That's not a bad thing.
Nicely said @@cracklingvoice
@@cracklingvoiceNATO does not have a strong point. Slovaks not NATO. We were dragged there by politicians bought by NATO. Keep that in mind.
@@slovienjano2594 Eh, except NATO doesn't work that way. The politicians may have wanted it, but there was also a general vote that required actual votes from real people. Nice try, vatnik.

Fun fact about the mentioned Rocket Artilelry Battalion - Our RM70s can hot-swap their 40x122mm rocket pods with HIMARS 6x227mm missile pods. So theoretically, it is capable of firing GMLRS.
Theoretically, there was an intentios to adapt MODULAR to fire GMLRS, but it never happen due to budget cuts. It was adapt to fire M26 only wich is no more part of inventory of Slovak armed forces.
Isn't the RM70 czech?

"Aligator, similar to VBL but uglier" 🤣😂😅 That took me down
And to begin with- VBL is not good looking.
In war is not the matter a issue of beauty contest! You need one useful tool !
“Toke” you down! *took.
that was a funny quip
but the fron really looks like an aligator !
It looks like they are organizing the batteries for sustained combat with solid logistics and OP. I’m surprised they don’t have recovery and maintenance assets with that much heavy equipment.
It varies country to country whether maintenance is organic to the battery. In the U.S. the maintenance teams are attached from the forward support company rather than organic to the batteries for example. In the Slovak case it's in the battalion HQ, and for EFP Latvia the battle group was supported by a Multinational CSS Company that included a mainly Canadian maintenance platoon for recovery
I do not think lot has changed. But in Slovak armed forces, crew should know how to repair basic failures of the gun, doing standard maintanace and take care of the gun. We call repair team only, if the damage or failure is higher then our capabilities to fix it. This is taken from the past, Warsav pact, Soviet union, crews have been trained this way.
We do have TATRA T815 AV-15 RECOVERY VEHICLE on same body, or new TATRA T815-7 MAMUT...
I liked a group of these guns traveling together on the freeway, As well as getting off at a freeway exit together to get fuel.
@8:00 Damn, what did the Alligator ever do to you! 😄
It's not that the Aligator is ugly, it's just that we make much prettier gear :) VBL is really cool looking for what it is
About mobility in terrain yes tracked SPG will be better in this, but guys remeber this thing has Tatra Truckes chassis one of the best in world, for whom terrain isnt much big problem.
correction - the best in terrain. 😎
Unless it's the Russian military we're speaking I assume militaries choose their toys for a good reason. From what can I think of, a handful of tracked vehicles are more of a maintainance hassle than the same number of wheeled ones. If you still insist to make all of your 155mm SPH run on tracks and have thick shrapnel-resistant armor, you either already have thousands of tracked vehicles like USA or Russia, or you are a pervert like South Korea. Whenever the K-9 loses on bids for acquisition programs in other countries, the winners are wheeled armored gun trucks like the French Caesar, and they just want to buy *only* a low dozens of them. Which makes their decision totally understandable and practical.
@@knpark2025 norwegians, estonians or fins went with tracked spg instead of wheeled
"Tatra nezná bratra" or "Tatra knows no brother"... brother here meaning no equal in terms of off-road capabilities.

Nice truck.
As a slovak thanks
And you get the benefit of never having a dispute at the petrol pump when people get unruly. 😊
During the 1990s, a tracked chassis version of the Zuzana known as the *Himalaya* was offered for export customers. The Himalaya is essentially a Zuzana turret mounted on a T-72 chassis. Although a few evaluations units were built, the Himalaya never received any orders.
Since Ukraine has ordered a total of 50 DANA / Zuzana howitzers and currently has around 500 to 600 T-72 tanks, a revival of the Himalaya concept combining the DANA / Zuzana turret with the T-72 chassis would be an interesting self-propelled artillery option for the Ukrainian Ground Forces, especially during the _rasputitsa_ mud seasons.
It may be but there are buts,.. if you have at least decent road network, whit 40km fire range you can enjoy movement speed and range of wheeled artilery whit no drawnbacs, you just go in, fire salvo (Zuzana can shoot two shells which fal on target at same time, altrouth not max range) and get out before getting hit by return fire. so as long Tatra can make enouth 8x8 chasis there is no point mounting it on tank chasis.
She's really majestic.
I was deployed alongside the Slovakian Zuzana battery in Latvia as part of NATO's EFP and back then they had major issues with the loading system. It failed a lot of times and they had to manually load the thing. They acknowledged the problems and are fixing the issue.
You also forgot to mention the Slovenian artillery unit (3x 155mm towed howitzers) attached to the Latvian artillery group.
The Slovenian artillery unit was part of a different cycle than the one discussed

Babe wake up, new Battle Order video just dropped.
how could she sleep ... sheeeesh
There is a small mistake on 9:30 Slovaks using RM-70 MODULAR which is Slovaks version of M270 MLRS something like HIMARS, and in video on picture is old RM-70 which has old Grad rocket launcher.
Imagine a bunch of wheeled SPGs cruising the New Jersey Turnpike then exiting into a travel plaza to fill up the fuel tanks. Hopefully they would have EZPass.
One mistake there. The rocket artillery doesnt use RM70/85 but RM70 Modular which is an interesting platform able to fire both legacy soviet 122mm and NATO 227mm with significant upgrade potential.
The 5th Artillery Regiment's site at least calls it the RM vz. 70/85 Modular which I guess is where the confusion was: 5dp.mil.sk/888/
It is true, 54rmo uses RM70/85 Modular
Btw the EVA howitzer you mention in the end is supposed to be read /EY-vah/. Basically all products of the Czechoslovak artilery traditions after DANA are named using female names (that are sometimes supposed to be acronyms) - so you get Dana, then Konštrukta came up with Zuzanas's, Eva and there is a project called Bia too (which as far as my knowledge of female Slovak names and their familiar versions is not an actual name, it just sounds a bit like one, while in Czechia Excalibur Army and the whole CSG concern (aptly called Czechoslovak Group, milking our latent Czechoslovakism yet again) focused on the Dana upgrades and then later the Dita and Morana (which is the name of the female Slavic death diety btw). All female names and I personally like the scheme - imagine Americans calling their new tank Avril or something :D
Avril is Canadian. Americans would have Taylor or Beyonce.

Great video as always, however like I'd like to see more in-depth videos on kitchen, logistics, medical and artillery elements.
For those who like wheelded SPG check also DITA and MORANA its Czech Republic counterpart to Zuzana 2 and also developed from DANA.
Private ventures. No interest from Czech military.
DITA finished testing some months ago and is ready for serial production, with ExcaliburArmy CEO claiming they had an interested client(would assume either Ukraine or someone buying on their behalf; or possibly Indonesia, as EA saw several exports that way). MORANA was unveiled at 2022 Eurosatory and will see at least year of internal testing and subsequent modifications before it's ready to be produced.
DITA uses same gun as Zuzana 2000, MORANA same gun as Zuzana 2.

Very nice explained video. Nobody in slovakia knows that much about our artillery, all details here. How did you get all these informaticon i dont understand
The explenation where you start from the top to the bottom is pretty easy to follow compare if you start from the bottom
correction, Caliber is indeed the diameter of gun, the number behind the slash is Caliber*s* , and yes it is specifying the length of the barrel as a multiplicator of the Caliber. So there is difference between word Caliber and Calibers in gun barrel description.
Neat, love me SPs and modern wheeled vehicles. There’s some interesting tradeoffs they chose to accept on this. I would drive a PZH2000 to work if I could but this might be making a case for itself.
Given the logistical requirements in fuel and maintenance for tracked SPGs like the Paladin, combined with shortages in transportation assets like the HET to move it, the greater operational capabilities of artillery like this probably likely make it the superior system, and even more so given the US’s doctrinal focus on expeditionary operations
Wheeled howitzers are better for hit and run tactic. However anything DANA based is too heavy for expedition by air. But they protect crew, which is important when you fight inside enemy territory filled with snipers and landmines.
@@Pyrochemik007 they’re armored largely against counter-battery fire and small arms from probing dismounts. The Zuzana and the Paladin are almost the same weight, the Paladin weighs less than a ton more, well within weight limitations for strategic cargo aircraft, the limiting factor is size
we aren´t warmongers like the us and we have small country. with very rough/ hilly terrain..so whatever :D
In Afghanistan, our Strykers struggled in the mud during the rainy season. Tire chains helped with the sand but mud was an issue. Also, we had a few problems with roads washing out.
Tatra trucks are quite renowned for off-road capabilities, which comes with their "Tatra knows no brother" motto/catchphrase. So when it comes to wheeled chassis, an 8x8 Tatra is as good as you can get for heavy terrain traverse. However yes, tracked chassis might be still a bit safer bet in heavy terrain.
It seams like Zuzan would be closest eqivalent to ARcher in the sense that its armoured and have a heavy of road type wheel situation
I am a czech, so I afcourse imidietly jumped here to look at this, and WOW! I know that Tatra is most likely the best army-truck chassis in the world, but what I realy didnt know, was that our eastern brothers have such gorgeous steel lady at their disposal! :D Brutal and awesome!
This thing is beast looking

thanks
The tatra truck is well known for cross country ability
Tatra 8x8 is among the best in the world chassis

There are arguments for and against truck mounted SPGs. One argument in this case is that they might be able to get into place faster than a tracked SPG could to blunt a sudden assault by a neighbor.
A sudden assault is, of course, a hypothetical scenario that has never occured in European history.
they are brilliant for a quick reinforcement support. Especially when the roads are not in perfect condition for towing truck which tracked artillery needs for longer distances. Or crossing some bridges. Zuzana 2 weight is 34t vs. Pz2000 57t vs. Krab 48t.
Proud to be Slovakian💪

5:08 The projectiles are visible, They were using practice low powder shells?
The chassis should be articulated.. Which would be a redesign but Tatra chassis is totally capable for this modification
That would bring little to no benefit. It's maybe important for Sweden and their landscape, but not here. Also, articulation just adds unnecessary maintenance and complexity.
I served my compulsory military service in the 21st SP Artillery Battalion, but that was waaay back in 1998/99. Since then, Slovak army became professional and miitary service is not compulsory any more. And I´m surprised, seeing this video, that the Slovak army still has those old 152 mm D30 howitzers that we had back then....
