Iron Maiden, whom you listened to before, is Heavy Metal. Metallica, specially the older material from them, is thrash metal. Metallica started in 1981, and this song Master of Puppets is from their third album, also with the title Master of Puppets, that was released in 1986. After the release of this album, they went on tour and during the tour on an icy road in Sweden, the tourbus slipped of the road, rolled onto it's side and the bassist, Cliff Burton, went through the window ending up underneath the bus and dying on the scene. After that, the band had their struggles, their music changed significantly, but they kept at it, and are still going to this day. They have played concerts on all 7 continents (yes even on Antarctica) and are one of the, if not the, most successful metal bands of all times.
With Iron Maiden's Hallowed be thy name, you watched a video with the lyrics. Here you watch a live performance where the audience is doing quite a bit of the singing. I wonder if you still understand what the song is about, because you didn't react to that at all. That can be by choice because you don't want to talk about the subject, or that you just want to share how much you enjoy the music, or it can be because you weren't able to follow the lyrics completely. I can definitely recommend to have the lyrics available when you listen to metal, because a lot of songs are about relevant subjects in people's every day lives. The song Master of Puppets is about drug addiction. How the drug becomes the master and the addict is just a puppet who even when he doesn't want to, has to come crawling to the master.
Since you mentioned you came from the Pentecostal church, I'm sure you are familiar with the Bible book Exodus. Metallica also has a song about that, which is called Creeping Death, from their 1984 album Ride the Lightning. I can definitely recommend to give that a listen, as it still remains a favorite among many of the fans.

If you do listen to "One" and you really should, please do us all a favor and don't take the (Official Music Video) version. It may be a cool video, but just hearing it for the first time just ruins the experience. I would actually recommend the studio version here, preferably with lyrics. A great song.

Try *The Warning* - 3 beautiful sisters whose first brush with fame was their viral (23+ million views) cover of Metallica's 'Enter Sandman'. They are currently on their 3rd album, and their music has deep roots in 1970s hard rock, with grunge and punk and other elements mixed in. 'Evolve' and 'Disciple' are a couple of good starting points, either the live or the music video versions.

Metalilica is one of the Big Four Thrash Metal bands; the others being Megadeth, Slayer and Anthrax. Iron Maiden is New Wave of British Heavy Metal (NWOBHM). There’s well over 40 different sub genres of metal with a lot of overlap between them. Maiden used to be my favorite all time band until I stumbled over Nightwish, a Symphonic Metal band, 20 years ago. I highly recommend checking them out. A good song to start your Nightwish journey would be Ghost Love Score from the Wacken 2013 show. Floor Jansen is their vocalist. She is one of the most dynamic and compelling female vocalist I’ve ever heard regardless of musical genre. The Nightwish Army will come.

Yes to Meat Puppets. Backwater, Roof With A Hole and Plateau are probably the ones that stand out most, for the purpose of a video especially

Yeah they are known from forming thrash metal. At The beggining, James Hetfield says "Master!". And this is arguably one of their best songs. James Hetfield's solo at The bridge gives me goosebumps All The time.

It's great you react to live versions instead of Studio. The energy and quality of there shows is still to this day awesome. After forty years they still put up a great show. I think you would love the song Fade to black live in Toronto 2016, it's a small show in a small venue and and you can see how the band enjoys it, as they usually play stadiums and festivals. Also the song Nothing else Matters live from S&M2 2019, the second concert they played with the San Francisco symphony.

yeah, but James' vocals on this more recent Metallica have lost a lot of their punch, the harshness of the early live shows and studio albums is so much better.

Almost all Metallica songs from the time when Cliff Burton (RIP Cliff) was still alive are some of the best that metal has to offer. For me personally, the soul of Metallica died with him. He was an incredible composer and songwriter. I still miss him. 😑

@@ianwakers I'm sorry if I expressed myself a little wrong here. I understand your attitude and you are of course right when it comes to the band itself. Rather, I wanted to point out that the quality of the songs, and I'm writing it "for me personally", has suffered greatly as a result. I hope that was clearer now.

That’s thrash metal - Iron maiden is technically New Wave of British Heavy Metal (or NWOBHM) - if you want to try death metal, which has a distinctive growl vocal you could try the band Death - or maybe a half way house between thrash and death like Sepultura (Dead Embryonic Cells live in Barcelona is a stand out)

So that you know : this song is about addiction to cocaïne ("chop your breakfast on a mirror" etc). I prefer the album version, but still great though. I like your reactions and your discovery of musics that are new to you, shows a great open mind ! Greeting from Switzerland !
EDIT : if you want a great metal song, you could give a try to "A question of heaven" by Iced Earth. It tells the story of Al "Spawn" Simmons, special forces soldier, who sold his soul to a devil (Malebolgia) in order to come back to Earth to see his beloved wife just once again. As in all faustian contracts, there is a twist : he sees her married with his best friend. The comic book is good, the Iced Earth' album "Dark saga" Tells his whole story and is sooooooo good !.
