    Question about plecos and filtration/flow. I want my tanks to be filtered with just sponge filters but I've been hearing they would be happier with a canister or HOB. Just wondering if you think having plecos in a tank with only sponge filters (and plants) as filtration.

    Hello great video:) I have super red longfin pairs and I havent been able to get the male to breed with any females(short or longfin). The female longfin breeds with the other shortfin males in the tank. Do you know why they might not be breeding? could it be cave size? too many males(5 males only 2 breed and they are the shortfins)? They are in a 55 gallon. Thank you:)

    I've SMASHED THE 👍 BUTTON as always. Can I please ask you a question about Albino Bristlenose Pleco. I lost my first ever Pleco a few weeks ago... He never ate anything not even French Cut Beans and he obviously died after a week! But I'm sure that he was old stock, he was about 4" long when I got him. Last Saturday my wife got me 3 baby Albino Bristlenose Pleco's 2 are just under 2" and the other is just over 1" long! They have a massive appetite and cleared my fancy goldfish tank of algae. I'm now paranoid that they aren't eating and heading the same way as my first Pleco! I want to feed them your favourite Pleco food French beans but the babies are the same colour as the beans. I know that the Goldfish love French beans from my experience of trying to get my first Pleco to eat.
    MY QUESTION IS...
    Would the fancy goldfish that are approximately 3" to 4" long (not including the fancy tails) mistake the baby Plecos for FRENCH BEANS and eat them? My blackmoor and a Telescopic Calico already chasek the Pleco's!
    I have tried algae wafers but the Goldfish eat them along with...
    Cucumber.
    Melon.
    Dried Daphnia.
    Catfish Pellets.
    Lettuce, Kale, Broccoli, Peas (skinned peas) that have been blanched in salt water.
    Also I have branches of bog wood to aid digestion, the babies love the bog wood.
    The Goldfish eat the lot no matter how much I feed them beforehand!
    So as you can imagine I'm getting more paranoid knowing that the Baby Albino Plecos aren't eating enough and the Goldfish are getting bigger!
    I'm also adding aquarium fertilizer every other day to encourage algae growth.
    Any advice will be gratefully received.
    Apologies for the lengthy message but I felt that you needed to have all the facts before you can give your professional opinion.

    • @MichaelsFishRoom
      @MichaelsFishRoom  3 года назад

      The gold fish will eat pretty much anything that fits into their mouth. But they are not compatible tankmates. Goldfish like it too cool for plecos.

      Turtles are illegal to buy in NJ!

    • @edwardtomaszewski78
      @edwardtomaszewski78 5 лет назад

      Turtle Law's for New Jersey
      It is an all too common mistake for people to assume that keeping turtles and tortoises in the state of New Jersey is ILLEGAL. Throughout the years, rumors have spread mainly due to misleading information about New Jersey's laws regarding this subject. I have created this particular page to help straighten things out a bit and to properly inform others about the truth. Unfortunately many of the tri-state's wildlife laws have changed drastically attributed to the disappearance of several wild populations native to this area of the United States and it's no surprise that humans are to blame. Illegal collection for the pet trade, road mortality and habitat destruction have led to these changes and it has made individual state laws rather confusing. In the state of New Jersey, it is completely LEGAL to keep and breed native and exotic species of turtles. A hobbyist permit that is obtainable from the NJ Division of Fish and Wildlife, is required to do so. This includes the Eastern Box turtle, Spotted turtle, Northern Red Bellied turtle, Northern Diamondback terrapin, Red Eared slider, Common Musk turtle, Eastern Mud turtle, Northern Map turtle, Eastern Spiny Soft shelled turtle and even the threatened North American Wood turtle. This excludes the endangered Bog turtle.The Eastern painted turtle as well as the Common Snapping turtle DO NOT require any kind of permit to be possessed in NJ, however they cannot be taken from the wild. Most exotic species are allowed in the state under the same permit so long as they do not appear on any federally endangered list (a separate permit from the United States Fish & Wildlife service is then required). Residents of this state may also obtain an ANIMAL DEALER/WHOLESALE LICENSE permit from the Division of Fish and Wildlife to be able to sell turtles legally and responsibly. However, turtles and tortoises CANNOT be sold WITHIN the state of NJ. All transactions must be made to individuals residing outside of the state. Whether you are applying for just a hobbyist permit or an Animal Dealer License, you must be able to prove that the animals you are acquiring have NOT BEEN COLLECTED IN THE WILD, anywhere. All turtles and tortoises obtained must come with a receipt to show proof that the animal came from a source where it was bred in captivity. Make sure to ask questions when purchasing from anyone and be firm about getting a receipt to show proof. Below I will include a link to NJ Fish and Wildlife if you are interested in learning more and I will also leave a number to directly reach the Exotic and Non Game Species department of NJ Fish and Wildlife service. Please follow the law! NJ is one of the last states in the North East that is actually fair.

    • @TheBudgetAquarist
      @TheBudgetAquarist 5 лет назад

      After 40+ years raising fish I can 100% tell you that the best pleco for eating and cleaning is the plain brown pleco. Sadly they get huge so be prepared to have to get rid of them depending on your tank size. It does take awhile too, but even in a small tank they get huge!
      But let me tell you, take 2 algae covered tanks and throw in a regular pleco in one and a bristlenose in the other and its no contest ...the regular pleco will clean up the tank including the glass while the bristlenose won't get tough algae (the green stuff) off of glass nearly as well.
      Just my advice! Best regards.
