I'm so glad y'all are home safe and sound. This world has become a terrifying place tbh. It's more of an incentive to really take care of us because no one else is going to do it. I still struggle to sit in my own skin daily, but I'd rather find healthy ways to cope with anxiety/depression other than adding something that will just create a long-term problem, potentially fatal. As an horticulturist, I collect and grow tropical plants. Kava (Piper methysticum) the botanical name says it all. It botanically translates to 'intoxicating pepper' So, it's in the same genus as pepper - like black pepper you flavour your food with. You can buy the Kava plant from the nursery (garden center) here in Australia in the tropics.
LD is exactly right, though; stop looking for the 'substitute' and the 'replacement'.
Kava is one of those 'roots only' plant. Eat the foliage and you're in for a really bad time - exactly like Rhubarb.
Anyway, I grew this plant for ornamental purposes, but I became interested in it's qualities. Here in Australia, you can buy Kava in tablet form from the chemist, and I used it for a short time to take it to help with sleep. It's promoted here as an anti-anxiety substance. I noticed a few effects, but ultimately, I stopped taking it because I didn't want it to become 'just another thing I take to fix my problems'.
Kava isn't as scary as some make it out to be, but as I said in another comment, you can't 'replace' a problem; you have to fix it and remove it.

@@loiscassels8966 the times he doesn't wear one. Us hair stylists are always looking at others hair. We can't help ourselves. It's kinda like any other trade...a roofer for example is always looking at roofs. Pointing out the good and bad work. We spot it from a mile away. We're always judging lol.

One of the many things that is so hard about addiction is letting go of that feeling when the substance kicks in and our brain and body feels that “click.”
The click for some is a salve and feeling of relief from anxiety. For others, the click is a welcome numbness to avoid the monotony of day to day of life and responsibility.

That feeling is so quick fleeing though. Then we spend the rest of our bender chasing that “click.”

You're right. Whatever the substance, I'm always looking forward to that click. I do use it to remedy anxiety. Really well stated, you described the experience perfectly.
Had a good friend who got hooked on kratom - she would chug bottles of it then puke. Absolutely horrible. She was a recovering alcoholic as well. I hope she's doing better these days, but she distanced herself when I told her that kratom was addictive and could be bad for her liver.
I occasionally drink Kava Kava tea, from Yogi Teas. I have heard from a Psychiatrist that it can effect your meds, so I always keep that in mind always. Great information, thank you.

regarding the gas station story, I've thought about how I would react if I were robbed or facing a scary situation like that considering i'm feeling so sick these days. It makes me wonder if I would even get scared or care anymore. Like I would want to say to the person "there is nothing you can do to hurt me any worse than I already am" But I guess you dont know until you are put in that situation

I don't think she took it all the time. OH .... giggling, you're a type A personality. I'm just the opposite. LOL --- OK buddy -- I guess you feel better? You sound better. **What a scary thing at the gas station. Dear lord. My brother had to pull off the HI way in SC for gas, coming back from Fla and he said he was scared shitless -- He had no idea where he was but felt very very unsafe. I guess just a rough neighborhood. Every state has them.

Funny story I was looking for a coffee shop in FL we do not have many other than Starbucks which no offense to anyone that enjoys Starbucks I don’t like the coffee there. Well I saw a kava bar, I had no idea that kava was not coffee. I grabbed my phone to check reviews and quickly realized coffee was not being served here. Lmao glad I checked because I steer clear of substances that can potentially become habit forming. I also don’t like to be impaired where I can’t control, such as Benadryl even the children Benadryl which is the only one I will take in an emergency because it causes me anxiety. The sleepy effects puts me on high alert. Anyways, nice to see you as always and hope you’re staying warm with squash. As always peaceful thoughts and all the best juju.
Coincidentally, I cleaned out my fridge a few days ago...found a little tincture bottle of KavaKava & threw it out. It had been sitting in there for about 20 years...YIKES! 😵💫[I seem to remember hearing that it was dangerous, which is why I never used it]. (Yes, my fridge is over 30 yrs old!!!.)
I know if I lived in a place where kratom was legal I would’ve had a shot addiction problem to it, I love opiates and there cousins. I got addicted to nitrous for ages because it was legal… 300 bulbs a day, my bedroom was like an ocean of little metal nitrous bulbs. Really sad time of my life.

Kratom, for me, did not have consistent positive effects, with the worst side effect being ER-worthy constipation (while using a daily laxative!). It makes a mess. I was glad to leave it behind. Love your channel!!!🎉❤😊

I went to a kava bar. I had two expensive drinks that were ok. I felt a little bit of a tingle from it but the person I was with didn't feel anything. It was a very young crowd and not worth the money in my opinion. I have zero desire to go back.
You can see Kava mixture supplements at Target and Walmart, and prob many stores.

I use Kava every once in a while as needed if I’m suffering from an episode of severe anxiety. This amounts to using it on average once every several months. I keep in on hand for those anxiety attacks and haven’t felt the need or desire to take it regularly. I find I don’t really notice its effects unless I’m having an anxiety attack. I did a lot of research and found a brand that I felt I could trust more than others, at Whole Foods. I treat it like I treat an NSAID….I take it every once in a while when I really need it and would never take it regularly due to the liver toxicity. I’d rather do this than have a script for a benzodiazepine. If I was inclined to abuse it, I wouldn’t have it on hand, but I just never have in the many years I’ve used it.
…Kratom is another story!

I just threw out my kava capsules that I’ve been taking everyday for over a year and I’m making an Dr. appointment to get myself checked out because my belly is looking pretty bloated :-( I thought it was just extra weight from all the crap I a ate during the holidays but now I’m nervous!

People should just smoke weed and stop messing around with this other stuff. Weed is so much less dangerous than kratom and kava kava. Plus, cannabis reduces nausea better than pharmaceuticals. Why it's not legal everywhere in the country and alcohol is is a travesty.

Yes I would like to 2nd you on the ending. I haven't drank for over 10 years it'll be 11 in May and after a few years and definitely after 5 years you won't even have any urge or interest in drinking. I don't want anything to do with it myself. I can be around people drinking, smell it see it go to the liquor store and get a bottle for my wife for new years and watch people act a fool lol. My wife was afraid and wouldn't drink in front of me for about 5 years until I went a got her a bottle and said here have at it I'm fine. You will be telling your kids and friends have fun be safe and call me for a ride Do Not be driving or riding with a drunk. It's a great feeling after you get over that hump.

@ it's an aphrodisiac. Not nesessary. Lemon balm alone is very anti-viral and anti-anxiety.
I actually think you'd be able to make a great video on this related subject. The younger generations, yes - are drinking less, and good on them - but ironically, they're idly just looking for intoxicating substitutes. Look at how anti-smoking created the Vaping epidemic these days. Kava, Kratom, Nangs, paint, and then all of the classic drugs. All these 'stimulants' are no better than booze (the main body of this channel) and will do the same thing. Humans have always wanted to feel 'uplifted/intoxicated' - that's natural. However, like you say LD: find a hobby and a passion that doesn't require a serum. Life and love itself has enough beauty and opportunities to never need taking any substance to feel better; you just have to find it through peace and simplicity; not make or create it by ingesting something to make it happen.

I’ve taken them for years. Trying to get off. I don’t know if it’s cortisol or what but it feels like my skins crawling until I take some. Attendant says some people consume 4 of those feel free per day. That’s 8 servings and about $35 per day!!!
That’s seriously a huge issue that comes with opiate withdrawal almost everyone uses those exact words, I had that skin crawling feeling coming off heroin and pain pills. You def have to expect a serious withdrawal period if you stop. But it’s safe and can’t kill you. Good luckZ
