That was great! I enjoyed watching that!
Love the music from the show, and watching the miniature Chariot
going through it's paces! The scene with the Jupiter and the crash sequence
made me laugh! Thank you for posting this video!

I was 8 years old in September of 1965 when episode 1 aired for the very first time.
It was awesome! Had not seen anything like that on tv before, and never will again.
I would not be that amazed at a tv show until several years later, when The Six
Million Dollar Man first aired. That's how much I love Lost In Space! And still do!

Wow! That is so cool! Just like they did it back in the 60's. I bet that was fun trying to recreate those scenes.

This was a lot of fun to watch. I'd like to try my hand at it someday, maybe on a future vacation.

FWIW Vasquez Rocks were featured in at least one episode of The Wild, Wild West. I distinctly remember West using that electrical wench thing he kept with him to lower himself down from high on it to the ground. Not sure if he used his derringer to shoot the spike into the rock.

Victor - I was told that was J2 Lunar Models - 24" outfitted with tubing for the wires. We went to Red Rock Canyon State Park to film that. Thanks

Hello Phil: This is Victor: This is great stuff. I just can't believe the camera shots, just like the original Lost In Space. What is that area in California called? That Jupiter 2, what was the make of the model of that one? Take care, Victor

The only thing that you did wrong was trying to make the J 2 fly was the original wires were fixed to an off screen scaffold at both ends and that the wires were taught .

what kind of rigging is it on the jupiter 2? obviously wires but where is it threaded to?

    • @hamiltonpl
      @hamiltonpl  10 лет назад

Between the top and bottom half of the J2 Hull there are two - one on each side - small tubes where the fishing line we used was threaded. The line though was too flexible and caused us some mishaps but worked other times. tks for the question.

hamiltonpl I love the enthusiasm of you and your "crew."
I know this is in hindsight, but the only way the model's trajectory can be stabilized is by making two jigs; with one having two adjustable turnbuckles for obtaining a balanced and stable tension. This can be done with 3/4" or 1" galvanized pipe and a matching tee. ( similar to the old clothes lines) Both need to be driven into the ground.
I was involved in a similar project years ago and experienced some of the same troubles from the start.
(I also had to use # 24 steel wire, since nylon -- although strong -- flexes more.)
At a distance the wires aren't noticeable, and overcast skies with diffused sunlight seem to give the best results.

+mgrella63 Wires. They run on either side and are threaded through the hull. I believe he had some tubing built in to support the wires. The hardest part is getting the wires up high enough so you can control the J2 descent a bit better.
