  • In this video, the British dapper looks at alternatives to wearing jeans. It is fair to say that in this day and age people generally go to wear jeans on a daily basis. Whilst jeans were historically considered to be workwear, in the modern age they have become pretty much a daily typical wear.
The British Dapper considers alternatives to wearing jeans. In the UK it was not until the 50’s where people start to wear jeans and the general clothing of choice for work would have been considered to be Typically worsted trousers, tweed or rough tweed or similar types of trousers.

Don't get me wrong, but jeans can be good for a casual look, but just not worn all the time and using other trousers you can begin to change your over all look and attitude to dressing differently 🙂 I'm not surprised your journey started with this change, thanks for the share 🙂👍

I never wear denim as I hate the material. In the winter I wear calvary twills and in the warmer times I wear chinos and linen trousers and on the hottest of days my seersucker suit

Jeans are for walking the dog across fields. Much prefer cords, chinos or wool! If I'm getting dirty, then jeans have their place. I don't find them comfortable, they serve a purpose, but cords are just casual and much more comfortable. My smart casual is chinos and tweed jacket. Charles tyrwhitt non iron trousers fit me amazingly. I have 6 different pairs 😂.

Great to hear that you use trousers in the form of cords and chinos, personally anything that states non ironing, still requires some form of ironing to get a great look, but I get what you mean about the fit and look. I would say though that jeans, whether we like it or not are becoming more and more the norm and this video is not to say no to the use of jeans, but to open people up to the idea that there are alternatives to wearing jeans. Thank you for your lovely comments 😀

    Dear British Dapper,
I think that MOLESKIN trousers and CAVALRY TWILL trousers are the most underrated trousers. Moleskin trousers are luxuriously warm and soft, and constructed from the toughest brushed cotton cloth available. As for durability they can compete with any jeans, yet they keep their colour.
And as for cavalry twills: their have excellent properties: they are hard-wearing, elastic and at the same time breathable. Yet they were hardly to be found in recent years. As the name suggests, they have military origins. The cavalry twill shares its military past with the blue navy blazer and is therefore considered to be the ideal material for combination trousers with a blazer.

I totally agree Ian, they have great properties and were design/constructed to last and wear well,, providing warmth and durability. They both go well with blazers, sports jackets etc. I'm glad you enjoyed the video, it was inspired by your comments a while back and deserved to be covered as a specific subject 🙂

Great content Chris, with lots of sensible alternative suggestions. I must compliment you on the jacket, waistcoat and tie / pocket square combination at 6:25. The extra effort to dress that little bit smarter in our everyday social attire not only makes us feel better, it sets us above the rest of the herd. 😊
