For those of us who have never seen an animal being slaughtered before, it was very shocking, and we felt strongly that we must be aware of the fact that we receive food life from our daily meals. We are neither Malaysian nor Muslim. Still, we would like to thank the Malaysian people for inviting us and teaching us so much for the sake of our multicultural understanding. A lot of people say muslim way of sacrificing animal during Eid is barbaric...lets think, if u r having beef...its not like milk, the cow had to die for u to have that meat....n most non-muslim countries use abattoir to preocess meat...if u r not accustomed to the process do google it...now the question I want to pose is...do u want to die by a bullet in head or u want a bunch of guys to beat u to death? and YES the difference is that huge, so muslim way of processing meat is more humane coz the animal is dead within 30 seconds as they bleed out instead of stunning n churning in a huge machine, where most of its bones r being crushed while its alive.
This is how we slaughter every animal even when its not raya haji. We sever the nerve at the neck making sure that the feeling of pain got cut off. We also loosen the rope to make sure theanimal doesnt die while restricted. This is what makes meat halal for muslim. By slaughtering in God(Allah) name because everything belong to Allah. Other non muslim meat factory shot the head to kill animal. Making it doed of shock. Thats not halal for us.
Without going too much into religion, I think the most important think for you guys to know about the festival is that it all goes to the ultra poor. Some people do not have the luxury of eating beef, and this is the one time that they can. Also, watching this helps you appreciate your food, that a cow gave its life for you and under no circumstances should you ever waste food. Hope you had a good learning and experience from this
Hari Raya Haji (which means “great day of the haj” in Malay), also known as Aidiladha (alternatively spelt as Eid al-Adha or Eid Adha) or the Great Day of Sacrifice, is a Muslim festival that falls on the 10th day of Zulhijjah (the 12th month in the Islamic calendar). It also commemorates the willingness of the Islamic prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice his son Ismail in an act of obedience to Allah (God). One of the main rituals of the festival is the korban, which involves the sacrificial slaughtering of livestock.1 It is one of two major Muslim festivals in Singapore that are celebrated as public holidays (the other being Hari Raya Puasa). Background Hari Raya Haji is celebrated to mark the Muslim pilgrimage known as the haj. According to the fifth pillar of Islam, all able-bodied Muslims who can afford to do so are obliged to undertake this pilgrimage at least once in their lifetime.2 The haj retraces the journey of Prophet Muhammad’s pilgrimage to Mecca and must be undertaken during Zulhijjah, the 12th month of the Islamic calendar.3 The festival also commemorates the story of Ibrahim and his son Ismail, both of whom were said to have been guided by Allah to build the Kaaba: a square stone building in the centre of the Great Mosque in Mecca that is considered by Muslims to be their most holy site. It is in the direction of the Kabaa that all Muslims face during prayers.4 According to the story found in the Quran, Allah one day commanded Ibrahim to sacrifice his son Ismail as a test of his obedience. Just as Ibrahim was about to carry out this command, Allah intervened to stop him and allowed for the sacrifice of a sheep in place of his son. Ibrahim’s exemplary act of sacrifice and obedience to Allah is commemorated during Hari Raya Haji through the ritual of korban, which involves the sacrificial offering of livestock.5 Rituals and practices Fasting and prayers Unlike during Ramadan when all Muslims are required to fast daily from sunrise to sunset for an entire month, fasting for Hari Raya Haji is usually done on the eve of the festival (known as Wukuf) and is not compulsory. On the day of the festival, Muslims first gather in mosques for congregational prayers before carrying out the korban ritual.6 Korban ritual The korban is one of the most significant rituals of Hari Raya Haji. The ritual is considered a sunnah muakkad (non-compulsory but strongly recommended obligation) and can be done individually or as a group. Muslims who can afford it are encouraged to perform the korban.7 The sacrifice ritual begins by facing the animal to be sacrificed in the direction of the Kabaa and uttering a prayer.8 The jugular vein at the animal’s throat is then slit quickly to ensure a quick death, usually within a minute. The animal is then cleaned and its meat carved up for distribution.9 As the korban signifies a sacrifice of anything valuable, livestock such as sheep, goats or cows are usually chosen as the offering. The person who sacrifices the animal keeps one third of the meat, while the remaining two thirds are shared with friends, neighbours and the poor and needy.10 In Singapore, the ritual takes place at mosques and religious schools. The korban may be performed by the donor or by appointed butchers at the respective slaughter sites.11 Besides its religious significance, another objective of the korban is to raise funds for the various Muslim organisations and mosques offering korban services. The funds are to help with their upkeep and educational programmes.
I really appreciate your open mind and willingness to learn. How diplomatically you are trying understand something so hard to see. I know it is hard to take seeing such gentle animals being killed and celebrated. It isn’t really a festival ( that’s just direct translation which doesn’t cover the deeper sense of what this is) it is a solemn day for appreciating the meaning of sacrifice, and the choice of doing what is difficult for the greater good. Although meat is a lot more easy to get nowadays, it is still a premium food that many people don’t eat often. And today is the day we as a community come together to pool our resources and feed them. Animal slaughter in Islam must be fast and merciful, painless as possible and respectful of the life we take for the sake of the lives of others. It’s not taken lightly or easily. And should never be done cruelly. Islam rules don’t even allow us to hurt or scare the animals, although sadly the expertise is dying out unlike the olden days where it is skill most people in every kampung have. That’s why we do see some people who do the slaughter here during raya haji having trouble bringing them down as quickly and efficiently as before. So there may be cases where it takes longer or more difficult. BUT They’re amateur volunteers and shouldn’t be taken to represent Islamic practice where it’s done in a few seconds and the animal bleeds out and dies within minutes. The amount of blood is scary but necessary for them to die quickly and painlessly from the massive blood loss blackout. Hypovolemic shock happens in seconds and is fatal within minutes but the cut has to be precise and thorough. So it looks scary to us but that is supposed to emphasise the cost of life we take for our own sustenance. We are supposed to offer prayer of gratitude before every meal, and be mindful of not wasting not just the meat but even the last grain of rice where the biggest blessing lies, for the food we eat is the blood sweat and tears of someone else. So yes at first glance it looks heartless for people to seem happy. But the truth is that the meat distribution is for the poor and those who may not have the privilege of eating fresh protein in their daily lives. If you see people being excited that’s probably why. They are happy to give away or be receiving the meat knowing that. They also cook some of the give aways because some don’t have the ability to cook raw meat.
talking about young amateurs and volunteers, i jusf saw some of them abusing the cows before qurban at masjid around my housing area. i agree the slaughtering method is excellent, execution is poor. i already submit my case to Veterinary Services Dept all the proof and documents. I am vegan because of this issue. Hardly we can find any young people can do slaughtering properly. I used to live in Japan before and I myself slaughtered goats during Qurbani. It takes only a few very strong guys to do Qurbani. Not like 30+ people surrounding a cow. Slaughtering need open space and not crowded ones. Next year there should be a veterinary officer in place and I will make sure every place has one officer like we had several years ago. Qurbani itself is highly recommended but depends on who doing it. I wont eat qurbani meat of an abused animal. It is morally wrong.
@@amevaio92 absolutely agreed. I hate that some people think it’s a macho thing to act like that and that the mosque people don’t put a stop to it immediately. And honestly, treating animals badly pretty much nullifies our Qurban pahala or spiritual reward because you’ve clearly missed the main point of the offering being a precious prized possession or that it shouldn’t be abusive and cruel to the animals.
I understand how you feel... when I was a kid, my father would always bring me to see how the cow was slaughtered... Although it was a teary and sad moment, I cried the whole day and each time it comes to the next Raya Haji i will try to avoid following my father... but then as time goes by..there's always a good thing to learn from the ceremony, to appreciate our food, not to hurt the animals while killing them if it's meant to be human food, be respectful to the animals that were sacrificed...
for non-muslims, the simplest explanation to this is we do it to share the meat with everyone especially the poor. not everyone has the luxury to eat meat very often. im pretty sure you already familiar with malaysian culture of giving and sharing. as for the slaughter itself this is how every halal meat is done whether its chicken, goat, cow or buffalo its the same method

There was history behind this sacrifice. In Malay, we also call Raya Haji as 'Hari Raya Korban'. Korban means sacrifice. Nabi (prophet) Ibrahim was ordered by Allah (the God) to sacrifice his son - Nabi Ismail; to see if Nabi Ibrahim are willingly to obey the instructions while this is involving his beloved son. While Nabi Ibrahim are so reluctant to proceed, Nabi Ismail said "do it for the sake of Allah without any hesitant. You will be rewarded gracefully in hereafter". So Nabi Ibrahim prepared and Nabi Ismail was so ready without any regret. Allah is so merciful - He replaced Nabi Ismail with a four-legged animal as the sacrifice. That is why, for Hari Raya Haji / Korban, we only sacrifice four-legged animal to comply with the order. Others may see this is pathetic but the animals are made by God to be the food for humans on earth. Some may said "why slaughter the animal? Not to electrocute, or shot dead?" slaughtering - we are using the sharpest knife to perform in order to ensure the animal have the least pain in their end of life. We are SO FORBIDDEN to use blunt knife to torment the animal. Hope this enlighten a bit.

i am 90% vegan after i know that consumerism leads to overconsumption of meat and food wastage. although i believe that sacrifice is truly a difficult and noble work, i may do only once in a lifetime sacrificing my own beloved goat. i am against western meat diet because it lead to mass farming, global warming and poor animal welfare. i do believe diet mostly based on vegan is prophet’s diet. qurma, honey, cucumber and habbatus sauda are great foods.
@@syafiq271 here i stated 90% vegan. honey is always better than meat because honey is a cure for illness as well. for meat, you can find alternative plant based vegan and it is way healthier with no cholestrol and no risk of high blood pressure. i stopped eating red meat due to high blood pressure. i eat red meat only once in 3 months maximum.

According to research, vegetables goin through painful process but we cant hear it since they dont have mouth but they create some sort of sound wave that can be hear under low frequency machine after they got cut. So yeah...all living things gone through painful process
@@anokmelayu3688 according to research, plants dont have pain receptors and central nervous system so it is impossible for them to feel any pain. they can sense however if they are dying but no pain. you need to carefully differentiate between sense of dying and pain. only animals and human beings can feel pain.

Thats exactly how in the factory shall Be done. It has to start with praying and start with the name of the god. Any beef or daging that didnt slaughtered with the name of god in islam and didnot follow sop are not HALAL.. so thats why when u eat that beef, it taste good.. So all restaurant and stall and food places must buy the meat from halal slaughtered house. Usually chinese food places and some indian restaurant didnt buy halal meat bcoz their customers arent muslim.. Same goes to. Chicken. All must follow same sop.
it’s hard for even halal factories to 100% follow halal guidelines if they have to slaughter hundred of livestock every day. and factory and farm workers salaries are low. that’s why govt must remove the ceiling price. if not, we wont have chicken rice in the future. 🥲

i'm the one who never saw any animal being slaughtered during hari raya haji..because i can't see all the animals eyes...but i always state it in my mind that this event is to share fresh meat or food with others in community especially for the poor one...end of the day we are happy after all the hard work from all the people there...hope you guys doesn't scare about this anymore...
I feel you guys too. Even though this is our annual event, as a Muslim, I still feel sad watching the animals being slaughtered right in front of my eyes. So it is best to avoid watching it. This is a nature of a normal human being after all. That is why it is advised to follow specific procedures such as using a sharp knife and relaxing them in order to avoid torturing as well as respecting them. The main purpose is to share prosperity with others, especially the poor. Thank you for being respectful and understanding.
The story about Aidiladha is one of our Prophet (Prophet Ibrahim) got wahyu /dream from Allah to slaughter his son Prophet Ismail, because he's loyal to Allah, he's agreed to do it, but suddenly miracle happen at that's time, Allah changed his son with a goat (sorry I don't really remember the specific animal that's got changed).. and Prophet Ismail was saved, that's why we did the Qurban.. we also can use Camel, Giat, Buffalo etc.. n during Aidil adha the community's at Mecca do their Hajj.. If u follow daud kim, he's done the umrah, hajji is only done on Islamic Calendar which is Zulhijjah.. so who's came back from Hajj, they will get a title Hajj at infront of their names And for us to let kids watch the Qurban scene, it depends how the family taught the religion at them, for me.. even since I'm a little girl, I'm so excited to see how many cows will be Qurban for Eiduladha.. because this is our religion.. hopefully u understand my explanation 🤣
If you feel bad, always remember that our daily consumption meat were processed at factory in the same way. The killing is necessary regardless by Muslim way or not. So I agree with u guys, lets appreciate our food more and reduce unnecessary waste.

Thank you for the effort to understand this action~ I am a muslim also still learning the meaning of the qurban. However, simply to understand it, to watch the slaughter animal in a proper way with prayer so that we can appreciate and respect the food we always eat. During Rays Haji, the beef and food will be give to poor people and to serve the community. Work together for the food and then eat together. Nothing left. Maybe for poor people, they could not afford to eat meat at all. So, only during Raya Haji they can taste meat. Meanwhile, the rich or people who afford to do qurban will donate the beef to needy people and community. I think this is the definition of this action. I hope you can understand a bit ☺️ May God bless the people who able to sacrifice their money for the cow/goat to give food for other people ☺️

Qurbani’ originates from the word ‘Qurban’ which comes from the word ‘Qurb’ meaning ‘closeness’. The Prophet Ibrahim (AS) in his willingness to sacrifice his son Ismail, demonstrated his closeness to Allah (SWT) and in doing so represented true Islam or submission to Allah (SWT).
Ibrahim (AS) experienced a dream in which he was ordered to sacrifice his beloved son Ismail (AS), at first, he was sceptical and believed it was trickery of the cursed devil. After experiencing the dream, the following night, he then understood that it was a message and a command from Allah (SWT). Without hesitation he prepared his son for the sacrifice. Ibrahim (AS) loved his son dearly yet this was no obstruction to honouring his duty that was instructed to him by Allah (SWT) and thus proving his full submission to Allah (SWT). Ibrahim (AS) took his son to the top of mount Arafat and in his hands, a knife and a rope. Upon Arrival He mention the dream to his son Ismail (AS) and made him aware that Allah (SWT) has decreed for him to be a sacrifice and in obedience his son Ismail (AS) accepted what was commanded of him. Ismail (AS) asked that his hands and legs be tied to avoid struggling during the sacrifice and that his father should blindfold himself to avoid witness the suffering of his son. Ismail was aware of his father’s love towards him and knew that this would be difficult to witness. As Ibrahim (AS) began to carry the sacrifice, Allah (SWT) replaced Ismail with a ram and Ismail (AS) was unharmed. Allah (SWT) tested Ibrahim (AS) to see his dedication in his submission (Islam) to his creator. In his willingness to oblige to Allah (SWT) commands, Ibrahim (AS) successfully passed the test and Qurbani acts as a reminder of our beloved Prophet Ibrahim (AS) dedication and devotion to serving Allah (SWT) obediently, this is the true Islam of oneself that Allah (SWT) expects from us.
7:20 there are several reason behind this muslim practice(qurban) . Let me list down properly. There are two sides. One side of history and another side of reason to practice qurban. 1st the terms ans conditions Sheep and goats must be at least one year old Cows and buffalos must be at least two years old Camels must be at least five years old Reason side The significance of Qurbani in Islam holds great value and is an act of devotion towards Allah (SWT), but it is also an act of giving to others in their time of need. Traditionally, an animal that is slaughtered for Qurbani is divided into three shares: one share for the donor and their family, one share for the donor’s friends, and one share for someone in need. History side The Qurbani Eid story recounts that Prophet Ibrahim (AS) had a dream, not once, but repeatedly where he was being asked by Allah (SWT) to sacrifice his son Ismail (AS). This was a test of love and submission towards Allah. He surrendered to Allah’s (SWT) command without hesitating and prepared himself and his son for sacrifice. It is said that Prophet Ibrahim (AS) took his son to Mount Arafat to perform the sacrifice. He described his dream to his son upon reaching the mountain, to which his son obliged and echoed the same beliefs that this was an act of obedience towards Allah (SWT). However, as he tied his son with a rope and was about to slaughter him, Allah (SWT) replaced Ismail (AS) with a ram, and Prophet Ibrahim (AS) slaughtered the animal instead. His son Ismail (AS) was standing perfectly fine right next to him, much to his disbelief. From the sacrifice we learn how to appreciate the meat that we receive, all of the leftover of the cow after we've done eat it (bone, skin, inerts etc) are put in the ground. We believe that the korban will be our good deeds and become our companion in the heavens. 1/3 of the cow will be given to less fortunate called asnaf, 1/3 can be given to our neighbors and 1/3 we can take for ourselves or can be given to others.

We don't slaughter them. Let me explain, everything was created by Allah and put at our service, we benefit of them. Using their milk, meat and more. On Eid-al-Adha, we sacrifice animals to thank Allah for all the blessings Allah has given us. We dedicate them. So those animals are offered for their Creator and the reason is the gratitude of people. Therefore they do not suffer (there is a medical explanation for this, you can find it if you search). In the end, we share this meat because the property belongs to Allah, not ours. Don't get me wrong i can feel you. Me, as a Muslim never even watched the the cut of the animal. It must be hard for you. I just want to explain why we do that. If you think we are simply slaughtering them, it makes me very sad. 'cause we don't even think about it. For simple explanation, other than it is very recommended obligation, here is why the cow being slaughtered 1. When it is slaughtered like that, all of the blood comes out by their throat, so the meat left is good and healthy 2. In our belief, those who afford to make this qurban, that cow will give benefit to the person at hereafter. A few part of the meat will firstly distributed to "orang miskin" first, then will be taken by the owner of who done this qurban, and then will be given/sedekah to any masjid or surau. Usually the meat given to masjid or surau, Masjid or surau will make "kenduri" for all of the orang kampung. *Other than its history/obligation, i shortened here some reason why we have this qurban, so that non Muslims can easily understand this belief. Remember, we only eat a lot of cows meat during this festival only, not throughout the years like those in the western world especially. Usually, during other days, we eat chickens and fishes. God creates these animals for us n what we have to do ia appreciate the foods n don't waste them.
This is definitely what they call a "culture shock". I was like that when I was a kid so I feel you. That is one of the must condition for animal slaughter ritual in Islam. The act of sacrifice requires a lot of faith, just like how you realized you should never skip itadakimasu before eating. We muslims also say bismillah (in the name of Allah) before doing any work including animal slaughter & eating. God has allowed us to eat meat thus we must honor the sacrifice by chanting gods name like what they did during the slaughter process. Like other human being we also feel sympathy etc but by having faith it relieves us and makes us believe that god will reward both the meat donator and the animal accordingly. It is thru faith that we can carry this process with belief that it will also help the poor and needy by distributing the meat.

Watching Qurbani from childhood made me strong willed and now I don’t faze at all while watching it. I’m also surprised at how the young generation kids in my area gets excited to see Qurbani I wish I was as half as enthusiastic at their age.

If you guys find this is disturbing, you guys should visit Kelantan museum about Japanese army's and Kelantanese history and how they raids Malaya (Malaysia). Just want to mention we Muslim cut it in Halal way as in the cow doesn’t feel a single pain and only feel as if they just went for an eternal sleep. If the cow was cut through non-halal way (feeling pain such as getting shot or hit to dead), we cannot eat it. Feeling bad for the cow is also a no-no, the individual who does cannot eat it.
Simply, the celebration is for us to learn about sacrifying what we love the most - in most cases, our money and family and share it with people around us. That is why we slaughter the best animal we have and share it with our family, friends and the needy. A cow is bought by one individual or can be shared with seven people. Any ruminant that has come of age can be used. It is a method of returning riches to the community. Also some people only get to receive beef during this time. It is given mainly for less fortunate people. Unfortunately all protein food stuff has to undergo this process. Regardless. This process is just a group activity of processing foodstuff farm to table.
I used to feel what you guys felt. This festival taught you on the value of sacrifice. The cows are being slaughtered and distributed among the poor who are not afford to buy meat. As you guys know, legumes do provide us protein but legumes are not able to provide us a large amount of protein needed by our system compared to meat (protein digestibility). In term of religion, we have to slaughter the cattle using a specific way as the cattle will experience less pain compared using other method such as eletrocution etc and this method is more humane. (Sorry for long explanation, I tried to simplify as much as I could)
Straightly speaking,if have the money ,you slaughter an animal and share the meat to the poor....as a Muslim we are thought not to be selfish....you must think of others as well......there are lot people who cant buy their own food...this is one of way we can share with them....what you saw was the method of slaughtering animal the Islamic way...not by shooting the animal etc etc..

My teacher teach me this festival is based from one story in Al Quran about Allah(God) told Ibrahim(one of the prophet) slaughter his own son named Ismail in middle of desert. but Ibrahim himself heavy heart to do that but he keeps in mind to believe everything told by God. And then Ibrahim did slaughter his own son (Ismail) and then Ismail transformed into a cow/sheep (i forgot which animal,sory). From this story that written in Al Quran that filled with Allah's words,we know that everything told by Allah have its own goods and benefits. You better study the history or the origin of Eidul Adha from the Prophet Ibrahim 'Alaihis Salam story long long time ago. Then only you can get better understanding of it. The best source story is from the holy Quran itself (in your case get the Japanese Quran translation). The story of each Prophet's in Islam also can easily be found.

The meaning of Hari Raya Korban in general is to show our faith towards the Almighty God , to be more grateful towards our food, to appreciate our life and to share the meat towards the community. 1/3 part of the meat will be given to the owner of the cow (the 7 people who shared to pay for the cows' cost which is normally cost RM750 per person = RM 5250 per cow ) 1/3 part of the meat will be given towards poor people 1/3 part of the meat will be shared towards our friends and neighborhood community ^ those stated above are normally what we did in Malaysia. However, some people sedekah/give the whole sacrificed animal(cow, goat etc) towards community and only took a tiny portion for themselves It is Haram/forbidden for the owner of the cow to do korban only for the benefit for your own self and family. Yesterday we saw for the first time an animal being slaughtered.
For those of us who have never seen an animal being slaughtered before, it was very shocking, and we felt strongly that we must be aware of the fact that we receive food life from our daily meals.
We are neither Malaysian nor Muslim.
Still, we would like to thank the Malaysian people for inviting us and teaching us so much for the sake of our multicultural understanding.

A lot of people say muslim way of sacrificing animal during Eid is barbaric...lets think, if u r having beef...its not like milk, the cow had to die for u to have that meat....n most non-muslim countries use abattoir to preocess meat...if u r not accustomed to the process do google it...now the question I want to pose is...do u want to die by a bullet in head or u want a bunch of guys to beat u to death? and YES the difference is that huge, so muslim way of processing meat is more humane coz the animal is dead within 30 seconds as they bleed out instead of stunning n churning in a huge machine, where most of its bones r being crushed while its alive.
This is how we slaughter every animal even when its not raya haji. We sever the nerve at the neck making sure that the feeling of pain got cut off. We also loosen the rope to make sure theanimal doesnt die while restricted.
This is what makes meat halal for muslim. By slaughtering in God(Allah) name because everything belong to Allah. Other non muslim meat factory shot the head to kill animal. Making it doed of shock. Thats not halal for us.
Without going too much into religion, I think the most important think for you guys to know about the festival is that it all goes to the ultra poor. Some people do not have the luxury of eating beef, and this is the one time that they can. Also, watching this helps you appreciate your food, that a cow gave its life for you and under no circumstances should you ever waste food. Hope you had a good learning and experience from this

It also commemorates the willingness of the Islamic prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice his son Ismail in an act of obedience to Allah (God). Background
Hari Raya Haji is celebrated to mark the Muslim pilgrimage known as the haj. According to the fifth pillar of Islam, all able-bodied Muslims who can afford to do so are obliged to undertake this pilgrimage at least once in their lifetime.2 The haj retraces the journey of Prophet Muhammad’s pilgrimage to Mecca and must be undertaken during Zulhijjah, the 12th month of the Islamic calendar.3
The festival also commemorates the story of Ibrahim and his son Ismail, both of whom were said to have been guided by Allah to build the Kaaba: a square stone building in the centre of the Great Mosque in Mecca that is considered by Muslims to be their most holy site. According to the story found in the Quran, Allah one day commanded Ibrahim to sacrifice his son Ismail as a test of his obedience. Fasting and prayers
Unlike during Ramadan when all Muslims are required to fast daily from sunrise to sunset for an entire month, fasting for Hari Raya Haji is usually done on the eve of the festival (known as Wukuf) and is not compulsory. On the day of the festival, Muslims first gather in mosques for congregational prayers before carrying out the korban ritual.6
Korban ritual
The korban is one of the most significant rituals of Hari Raya Haji. The ritual is considered a sunnah muakkad (non-compulsory but strongly recommended obligation) and can be done individually or as a group. Muslims who can afford it are encouraged to perform the korban.7
The sacrifice ritual begins by facing the animal to be sacrificed in the direction of the Kabaa and uttering a prayer.8 The jugular vein at the animal’s throat is then slit quickly to ensure a quick death, usually within a minute. The animal is then cleaned and its meat carved up for distribution.9
As the korban signifies a sacrifice of anything valuable, livestock such as sheep, goats or cows are usually chosen as the offering. The person who sacrifices the animal keeps one third of the meat, while the remaining two thirds are shared with friends, neighbours and the poor and needy.10
In Singapore, the ritual takes place at mosques and religious schools. The korban may be performed by the donor or by appointed butchers at the respective slaughter sites.11
Besides its religious significance, another objective of the korban is to raise funds for the various Muslim organisations and mosques offering korban services. The funds are to help with their upkeep and educational programmes.

I really appreciate your open mind and willingness to learn. How diplomatically you are trying understand something so hard to see. I know it is hard to take seeing such gentle animals being killed and celebrated.
It isn’t really a festival ( that’s just direct translation which doesn’t cover the deeper sense of what this is) it is a solemn day for appreciating the meaning of sacrifice, and the choice of doing what is difficult for the greater good. Although meat is a lot more easy to get nowadays, it is still a premium food that many people don’t eat often. And today is the day we as a community come together to pool our resources and feed them.
Animal slaughter in Islam must be fast and merciful, painless as possible and respectful of the life we take for the sake of the lives of others. It’s not taken lightly or easily. And should never be done cruelly. Islam rules don’t even allow us to hurt or scare the animals, although sadly the expertise is dying out unlike the olden days where it is skill most people in every kampung have.
That’s why we do see some people who do the slaughter here during raya haji having trouble bringing them down as quickly and efficiently as before. So there may be cases where it takes longer or more difficult. BUT They’re amateur volunteers and shouldn’t be taken to represent Islamic practice where it’s done in a few seconds and the animal bleeds out and dies within minutes. The amount of blood is scary but necessary for them to die quickly and painlessly from the massive blood loss blackout. Hypovolemic shock happens in seconds and is fatal within minutes but the cut has to be precise and thorough. So it looks scary to us but that is supposed to emphasise the cost of life we take for our own sustenance. We are supposed to offer prayer of gratitude before every meal, and be mindful of not wasting not just the meat but even the last grain of rice where the biggest blessing lies, for the food we eat is the blood sweat and tears of someone else.
So yes at first glance it looks heartless for people to seem happy. But the truth is that the meat distribution is for the poor and those who may not have the privilege of eating fresh protein in their daily lives. If you see people being excited that’s probably why. They are happy to give away or be receiving the meat knowing that. They also cook some of the give aways because some don’t have the ability to cook raw meat.

talking about young amateurs and volunteers, i jusf saw some of them abusing the cows before qurban at masjid around my housing area. i agree the slaughtering method is excellent, execution is poor. i already submit my case to Veterinary Services Dept all the proof and documents. I am vegan because of this issue. Hardly we can find any young people can do slaughtering properly. I used to live in Japan before and I myself slaughtered goats during Qurbani. It takes only a few very strong guys to do Qurbani. Not like 30+ people surrounding a cow. Slaughtering need open space and not crowded ones. Next year there should be a veterinary officer in place and I will make sure every place has one officer like we had several years ago. Qurbani itself is highly recommended but depends on who doing it. I wont eat qurbani meat of an abused animal. It is morally wrong.

I understand how you feel... when I was a kid, my father would always bring me to see how the cow was slaughtered... Although it was a teary and sad moment, I cried the whole day and each time it comes to the next Raya Haji i will try to avoid following my father... but then as time goes by..there's always a good thing to learn from the ceremony, to appreciate our food, not to hurt the animals while killing them if it's meant to be human food, be respectful to the animals that were sacrificed...
for non-muslims, the simplest explanation to this is we do it to share the meat with everyone especially the poor. not everyone has the luxury to eat meat very often. im pretty sure you already familiar with malaysian culture of giving and sharing. as for the slaughter itself this is how every halal meat is done whether its chicken, goat, cow or buffalo its the same method

There was history behind this sacrifice. In Malay, we also call Raya Haji as 'Hari Raya Korban'. Korban means sacrifice. Nabi (prophet) Ibrahim was ordered by Allah (the God) to sacrifice his son - Nabi Ismail; to see if Nabi Ibrahim are willingly to obey the instructions while this is involving his beloved son. While Nabi Ibrahim are so reluctant to proceed, Nabi Ismail said "do it for the sake of Allah without any hesitant. You will be rewarded gracefully in hereafter". So Nabi Ibrahim prepared and Nabi Ismail was so ready without any regret. Allah is so merciful - He replaced Nabi Ismail with a four-legged animal as the sacrifice. That is why, for Hari Raya Haji / Korban, we only sacrifice four-legged animal to comply with the order. Others may see this is pathetic but the animals are made by God to be the food for humans on earth. Some may said "why slaughter the animal? Not to electrocute, or shot dead?" slaughtering - we are using the sharpest knife to perform in order to ensure the animal have the least pain in their end of life. We are SO FORBIDDEN to use blunt knife to torment the animal. Hope this enlighten a bit.
Quran did not mention it was Ishmael that was going to be sacrificed. In the Bible we believe that Issac was the one being offered as a sacrifice.

i am 90% vegan after i know that consumerism leads to overconsumption of meat and food wastage. although i believe that sacrifice is truly a difficult and noble work, i may do only once in a lifetime sacrificing my own beloved goat. i am against western meat diet because it lead to mass farming, global warming and poor animal welfare.
i do believe diet mostly based on vegan is prophet’s diet. qurma, honey, cucumber and habbatus sauda are great foods.

Thats exactly how in the factory shall Be done. It has to start with praying and start with the name of the god. Any beef or daging that didnt slaughtered with the name of god in islam and didnot follow sop are not HALAL.. so thats why when u eat that beef, it taste good.. So all restaurant and stall and food places must buy the meat from halal slaughtered house. i'm the one who never saw any animal being slaughtered during hari raya haji..because i can't see all the animals eyes...but i always state it in my mind that this event is to share fresh meat or food with others in community especially for the poor one...end of the day we are happy after all the hard work from all the people there...hope you guys doesn't scare about this anymore...
I feel you guys too. Even though this is our annual event, as a Muslim, I still feel sad watching the animals being slaughtered right in front of my eyes. So it is best to avoid watching it. This is a nature of a normal human being after all. That is why it is advised to follow specific procedures such as using a sharp knife and relaxing them in order to avoid torturing as well as respecting them. The main purpose is to share prosperity with others, especially the poor. Thank you for being respectful and understanding.
The story about Aidiladha is one of our Prophet (Prophet Ibrahim) got wahyu /dream from Allah to slaughter his son Prophet Ismail, because he's loyal to Allah, he's agreed to do it, but suddenly miracle happen at that's time, Allah changed his son with a goat (sorry I don't really remember the specific animal that's got changed).. and Prophet Ismail was saved, that's why we did the Qurban.. we also can use Camel, Giat, Buffalo etc.. n during Aidil adha the community's at Mecca do their Hajj..
If u follow daud kim, he's done the umrah, hajji is only done on Islamic Calendar which is Zulhijjah.. so who's came back from Hajj, they will get a title Hajj at infront of their names
And for us to let kids watch the Qurban scene, it depends how the family taught the religion at them, for me.. even since I'm a little girl, I'm so excited to see how many cows will be Qurban for Eiduladha.. because this is our religion.. hopefully u understand my explanation 🤣
If you feel bad, always remember that our daily consumption meat were processed at factory in the same way. The killing is necessary regardless by Muslim way or not. So I agree with u guys, lets appreciate our food more and reduce unnecessary waste.

It isn’t really a festival ( that’s just direct translation which doesn’t cover the deeper sense of what this is) it is a solemn day for appreciating the meaning of sacrifice, and the choice of doing what is difficult for the greater good. Although meat is a lot more easy to get nowadays, it is still a premium food that many people don’t eat often. And today is the day we as a community come together to pool our resources and feed them.
Animal slaughter in Islam must be fast and merciful, painless as possible and respectful of the life we take for the sake of the lives of others. It’s not taken lightly or easily. And should never be done cruelly. Islam rules don’t even allow us to hurt or scare the animals, and although sadly the expertise is dying out unlike the olden days where it is skill most people in every kampung have.
That’s why we do see some people who do the slaughter here during raya haji having trouble bringing them down as quickly and efficiently as before. So there may be cases where it takes longer or more difficult. BUT They’re amateur volunteers and shouldn’t be taken to represent Islamic practice where it’s done in a few seconds and the animal bleeds out and dies within minutes. The amount of blood is scary but necessary for them to die quickly and painlessly from the massive blood loss blackout. So it looks scary to us but that is supposed to emphasise the cost of life we take for our own sustenance.
The meat distribution is for the poor and those who may not have the privilege of eating fresh protein in their daily lives. If you see people being excited that’s probably why. They are happy to give away the meat knowing that. They also cook
Thank you for the effort to understand this action~ I am a muslim also still learning the meaning of the qurban. However, simply to understand it, to watch the slaughter animal in a proper way with prayer so that we can appreciate and respect the food we always eat. During Rays Haji, the beef and food will be give to poor people and to serve the community. Work together for the food and then eat together. Nothing left. Maybe for poor people, they could not afford to eat meat at all. So, only during Raya Haji they can taste meat. Meanwhile, the rich or people who afford to do qurban will donate the beef to needy people and community. I think this is the definition of this action. I hope you can understand a bit ☺️

Qurbani’ originates from the word ‘Qurban’ which comes from the word ‘Qurb’ meaning ‘closeness’. The Prophet Ibrahim (AS) in his willingness to sacrifice his son Ismail, demonstrated his closeness to Allah (SWT) and in doing so represented true Islam or submission to Allah (SWT).
Ibrahim (AS) experienced a dream in which he was ordered to sacrifice his beloved son Ismail (AS), at first, he was sceptical and believed it was trickery of the cursed devil. After experiencing the dream, the following night, he then understood that it was a message and a command from Allah (SWT). Without hesitation he prepared his son for the sacrifice. Ibrahim (AS) loved his son dearly yet this was no obstruction to honouring his duty that was instructed to him by Allah (SWT) and thus proving his full submission to Allah (SWT).
Ibrahim (AS) took his son to the top of mount Arafat and in his hands, a knife and a rope. Upon Arrival He mention the dream to his son Ismail (AS) and made him aware that Allah (SWT) has decreed for him to be a sacrifice and in obedience his son Ismail (AS) accepted what was commanded of him. Ismail (AS) asked that his hands and legs be tied to avoid struggling during the sacrifice and that his father should blindfold himself to avoid witness the suffering of his son. Ismail was aware of his father’s love towards him and knew that this would be difficult to witness. As Ibrahim (AS) began to carry the sacrifice, Allah (SWT) replaced Ismail with a ram and Ismail (AS) was unharmed. Allah (SWT) tested Ibrahim (AS) to see his dedication in his submission (Islam) to his creator. In his willingness to oblige to Allah (SWT) commands, Ibrahim (AS) successfully passed the test and Qurbani acts as a reminder of our beloved Prophet Ibrahim (AS) dedication and devotion to serving Allah (SWT) obediently, this is the true Islam of oneself that Allah (SWT) expects from us.
7:20 there are several reason behind this muslim practice(qurban) . Let me list down properly. There are two sides. One side of history and another side of reason to practice qurban.
1st the terms ans conditions
Sheep and goats must be at least one year old
Cows and buffalos must be at least two years old
Camels must be at least five years old
Reason side
The significance of Qurbani in Islam holds great value and is an act of devotion towards Allah (SWT), but it is also an act of giving to others in their time of need. Traditionally, an animal that is slaughtered for Qurbani is divided into three shares: one share for the donor and their family, one share for the donor’s friends, and one share for someone in need.
History side
The Qurbani Eid story recounts that Prophet Ibrahim (AS) had a dream, not once, but repeatedly where he was being asked by Allah (SWT) to sacrifice his son Ismail (AS). This was a test of love and submission towards Allah. He surrendered to Allah’s (SWT) command without hesitating and prepared himself and his son for sacrifice.
It is said that Prophet Ibrahim (AS) took his son to Mount Arafat to perform the sacrifice. He described his dream to his son upon reaching the mountain, to which his son obliged and echoed the same beliefs that this was an act of obedience towards Allah (SWT).
However, as he tied his son with a rope and was about to slaughter him, Allah (SWT) replaced Ismail (AS) with a ram, and Prophet Ibrahim (AS) slaughtered the animal instead. His son Ismail (AS) was standing perfectly fine right next to him, much to his disbelief.
Regulations
The slaughter knife is sharp so that unnecessary pain and suffering is avoided (it cannot be sharpened in front of the animal)
No animal is slaughtered in front of another Qurbani animal
They are at least present for the sacrifice if they do not have the knowhow to do it themselves
They say the words “Bismillah, wa Allahu Akbar” at the time of the slaughter
The animal is not skinned until it is entirely cold

From the sacrifice we learn how to appreciate the meat that we receive, all of the leftover of the cow after we've done eat it (bone, skin, inerts etc) are put in the ground.
We believe that the korban will be our good deeds and become our companion in the heavens. 1/3 of the cow will be given to less fortunate called asnaf, 1/3 can be given to our neighbors and 1/3 we can take for ourselves or can be given to others.

We don't slaughter them. Let me explain, everything was created by Allah and put at our service, we benefit of them. Using their milk, meat and more. On Eid-al-Adha, we sacrifice animals to thank Allah for all the blessings Allah has given us. We dedicate them. So those animals are offered for their Creator and the reason is the gratitude of people. Therefore they do not suffer (there is a medical explanation for this, you can find it if you search). In the end, we share this meat because the property belongs to Allah, not ours.
Don't get me wrong i can feel you. Me, as a Muslim never even watched the the cut of the animal. It must be hard for you. I just want to explain why we do that. If you think we are simply slaughtering them, it makes me very sad. 'cause we don't even think about it. Hope what I wrote was a little explanatory. Wish you adventures on your trip✨🥳

For simple explanation, other than it is very recommended obligation, here is why the cow being slaughtered
1. When it is slaughtered like that, all of the blood comes out by their throat, so the meat left is good and healthy
2. In our belief, those who afford to make this qurban, that cow will give benefit to the person at hereafter. Maybe for those who dont know or first time seeing this,they might be sad or pity for them(the cow), but in Islam, there is benefit behind this qurban.
3. A few part of the meat will firstly distributed to "orang miskin" first, then will be taken by the owner of who done this qurban, and then will be given/sedekah to any masjid or surau. Usually the meat given to masjid or surau, Masjid or surau will make "kenduri" for all of the orang kampung.
*Other than its history/obligation, i shortened here some reason why we have this qurban, so that non Muslims can easily understand this belief.

Remember, we only eat a lot of cows meat during this festival only, not throughout the years like those in the western world especially. Usually, during other days, we eat chickens and fishes. God creates these animals for us n what we have to do ia appreciate the foods n don't waste them.

This is definitely what they call a "culture shock". I was like that when I was a kid so I feel you. It's still sad to see them killed but then I remember that the meat will be shared among the community especially the poor. So, the cow's sacrifice is not in vain. I really like Hari Raya Haji. Not only for the meat supplies and all that, but also that it brings people together. From slaughtering and skinning the cows to butchering and delivering the meat, it's not often you see local residents gather and work together. It's wholesome

The ritual is done quick as possible with very sharp tool so the death of the animal is quick and make them less suffer from pain. That is one of the must condition for animal slaughter ritual in Islam.
I wouldn't describe raya haji as a festival yet it is a day of remembering an important event about a prophet sacrifice in Islam and also a day of sharing.

The act of sacrifice requires a lot of faith, just like how you realized you should never skip itadakimasu before eating. We muslims also say bismillah (in the name of Allah) before doing any work including animal slaughter & eating. God has allowed us to eat meat thus we must honor the sacrifice by chanting gods name like what they did during the slaughter process. Like other human being we also feel sympathy etc but by having faith it relieves us and makes us believe that god will reward both the meat donator and the animal accordingly. It is thru faith that we can carry this process with belief that it will also help the poor and needy by distributing the meat.

Not everyone can always eat the meat as it's quite pricey but during Hari Raya Haji, everyone can enjoy it either rich or poor.
Watching Qurbani from childhood made me strong willed and now I don’t faze at all while watching it. I’m also surprised at how the young generation kids in my area gets excited to see Qurbani I wish I was as half as enthusiastic at their age.

If you guys find this is disturbing, you guys should visit Kelantan museum about Japanese army's and Kelantanese history and how they raids Malaya (Malaysia). Koji already visits the museum, just ask him if you want to learn history. Trust me, Koji knew everythings.
Just want to mention we Muslim cut it in Halal way as in the cow doesn’t feel a single pain and only feel as if they just went for an eternal sleep. If the cow was cut through non-halal way (feeling pain such as getting shot or hit to dead), we cannot eat it. Feeling bad for the cow is also a no-no, the individual who does cannot eat it.

Simply, the celebration is for us to learn about sacrifying what we love the most - in most cases, our money and family and share it with people around us. That is why we slaughter the best animal we have and share it with our family, friends and the needy. At the same time, we muslim also is taught of the way to kill the animal respectfully and to reduce the pain. So what you guys are seeing there, are two things practised at one festival.

A cow is bought by one individual or can be shared with seven people. Any ruminant that has come of age can be used.
It is a method of returning riches to the community. Also some people only get to receive beef during this time. It is given mainly for less fortunate people.
Unfortunately all protein food stuff has to undergo this process. Regardless. This process is just a group activity of processing foodstuff farm to table.

I used to feel what you guys felt. This festival taught you on the value of sacrifice. The cows are being slaughtered and distributed among the poor who are not afford to buy meat. As you guys know, legumes do provide us protein but legumes are not able to provide us a large amount of protein needed by our system compared to meat (protein digestibility). In term of religion, we have to slaughter the cattle using a specific way as the cattle will experience less pain compared using other method such as eletrocution etc and this method is more humane. (Sorry for long explanation, I tried to simplify as much as I could)
Straightly speaking,if have the money ,you slaughter an animal and share the meat to the poor....as a Muslim we are thought not to be selfish....you must think of others as well......there are lot people who cant buy their own food...this is one of way we can share with them....what you saw was the method of slaughtering animal the Islamic way...not by shooting the animal etc etc..

Despite Hari Raya Aidiladha meaning, actually if you slaughter meat this way, you can get a better meat with no uneasy and nasty smell. Bcs the way slaughtering them will make it easier for blood to flowing out of the meat and leave a clean meat with almost no blood.
One thing for sure I can guarantee. The cow is so lucky. They will go directly into the heaven after the slaughter. In Islam cow is great animal.

My teacher teach me this festival is based from one story in Al Quran about Allah(God) told Ibrahim(one of the prophet) slaughter his own son named Ismail in middle of desert. but Ibrahim himself heavy heart to do that but he keeps in mind to believe everything told by God. And then Ibrahim did slaughter his own son (Ismail) and then Ismail transformed into a cow/sheep (i forgot which animal,sory).
From this story that written in Al Quran that filled with Allah's words,we know that everything told by Allah have its own goods and benefits.

You better study the history or the origin of Eidul Adha from the Prophet Ibrahim 'Alaihis Salam story long long time ago. Then only you can get better understanding of it. The best source story is from the holy Quran itself (in your case get the Japanese Quran translation). The story of each Prophet's in Islam also can easily be found.

Yes. Its hard to see at first. But when we thinking by slaughtering the cow straight at the neck and instantly die, it will reduce the pain. We dont know how much time taken for the cow to be killed and had to suffer if not using this method. Anyway, good video to show the Malaysian culture.

The meaning of Hari Raya Korban in general is to show our faith towards the Almighty God , to be more grateful towards our food, to appreciate our life and to share the meat towards the community.
1/3 part of the meat will be given to the owner of the cow (the 7 people who shared to pay for the cows' cost which is normally cost RM750 per person = RM 5250 per cow )
1/3 part of the meat will be given towards poor people
1/3 part of the meat will be shared towards our friends and neighborhood community
^ those stated above are normally what we did in Malaysia. However, some people sedekah/give the whole sacrificed animal(cow, goat etc) towards community and only took a tiny portion for themselves
