Kerabu means vege salads. Nasi Kerabu means Rice Salad. Its blue rice cooked with butterfly pea flower (for blue color) mixed with vegetables salad (usually no coriander, we normally use local ulam/veges like tauge/beans sprout, cabbages, some greens) with shredded coconut , budu (fermented anchovies), sambal, and fish crackers. The side dish may varies from telur masin/salted egg, solok lada/stuffed chili, jeruk bawang/fermented garlic, ikan goreng, ayam bakar, daging bakar, and many more The best way eat it is to mix all and eat with bare hand.
Nasi Kerabu is like Bibimbap (Korean Food) which means vegetable rice. You must mixed them all together so the taste is balance and yummy to eat. I'm so glad you have tried it.
In malaysia, or kelantan, sometimes they put in seafood in ice too. But in kelantan, or terengganu which are close to the sea, they dont need to put in ice, because they got the seafood fresh, sometimes in the morning then they directly sell to the market. Because seafood like fish in ice meant it is not fresh because it might be keep in icebox for a lot of hour already. We called it ikan kotak or ‘icebox fish’ which is not fresh at all but maybe fresh enough for someplace which is hard to get seafood. And seafood in icebox also price less than fresh one
Me as Malaysia people i never eat nasi kerabu before…but this year 2022 at age 21 i try nasi kerabu for first time and what i can said! The nasi kerabu very delicious! I like it! I wish i can eat nasi kerabu again for round 2
If u stay out of Klang valley or Kelantan / teganu it's not easy to find nasi kerabu. I'm Johorean ate nasi kerabu for the 1st time during my uni time where we have friends from east coast who introduced the nasi kerabu
You guys are so cute with all the reactions. For Nasi Kerabu (from what I learn) 1. Why it is blue in colour - yes you are right, it is from butterfly pea flower. Why it is made that way, not sure; but it has a bit of salt in it. Another thing is butterfly pea flower has some good remedy for health too. 2. Nasi Kerabu way of eating (from what I learn) is that you need to mix everything together to eat (like how iChang and Jimmy did). Eating independently the condiments sometimes don't taste nice, especially coriander; but if mixed with the sweet part of shredded coconut, it balance the taste nicely. The "coconut powder" is actually shredded coconut. It can produce Santan (coconut milk) when you squeeze it out for curry (mostly) and dessert; while the "sisa kelapa" (remains) can be fried into many types of side dish, like the sweet shredded coconut in nasi Kerabu. 😁 (It can do many many more also)
6:51 me as Malaysian and non- Kelantanese also think the same when the first time eating Nasi Kerabu.. “it’s blue but the taste like a normal rice I always eat..” the blue is from the flower.. I like the taste of Nasi Kerabu ..
ya memang la nasi biasa, colour dia je warna lain dari lain, biasa nasi kerabu ada colour, kuning, biru, putih. Jarang2 nak nampak yg colour kuning. Yg specialnya pasal nasi kerabu kena mix semua br rs dia umm yummy. Kalau makan asing2 memang biasa la dia.
I think the reason why they eat Nasi Kerabu in the morning because its filling.. Can gain energy the whole morning till lunch or maybe dinner.. Yup, indeed they used Butterfly Pea flower to the rice. It gives out the color and flavor to the riice.. Hmmmm.. I got one suggestion for the next video once you guys come back to KL.. Perhaps you guys can cook up Japanese food and challenge yourself to find the ingredients in the market... 😅 it will be fun.. Any Japanese food that you guys know how to cook..🥰

Ahah, nasi kerabu So delicious!!! But it might be “difficult” for first timer especially foreigner. Malaysian are used to “strong” taste spices and flavour. Itadaki minum got me 🤣🤣😂
Since beginning... THERE IS NO CORIANDER USED AS INGRIDIENT FOR NASI KERABU.. OH MY...lf you smell weird smell.. Probably.... It came from local herbs that also used as ulam... And i belive, maybe.. Gigertorch flower...
Nasi kerabu is my fav as a malaysian...
あなたたちはとてもキュートで楽しい若い男です😃😃😃
Nobu more handsome with black hair
it's okay that you might not like kerabu rice a bit for foreigners for the first time .. maybe it's the ulam ulaman that makes you all dislike it a bit 😅😅 but it's okay ... it's not easy to try foreign food for the first time ... like durian I think a few times you will definitely like it after that... you all take your time okay 👌🏼👌🏼 if you want to make it even tastier, mix all the ingredients with a rice, it's tastier and more delicious... kerabu rice is made from "bunga telang" which is blue in color from flower not from food colouring .. the original color is from flowers .. that's why the rice is blue 😊😊😊 anyway thank you for eating local food from the state of Kelantan ...
Later...when you get to Kuala Terengganu..you can stop at Singgang Budu Restaurant...a lot of food there
I wish you had proper tour guide to have more enjoyable trip there. Anyhow, glad you like the foods
The right way to eat nasi kerabu, you must mixed rice and vegetable all together.
No coriander in Nasi Kerabu..😅 but have daun kesom that the smell & taste close to coriander..i love Nasi Kerabu..feel sorry for you because of ‘coriander’ issue..next please try nasi dagang with gulai ayam or ikan..you will love that..nasi dagang kelantan different with nasi dagang terengganu..and I love both! ☺️
Terengganu has the best nasi dagang for me. You should try it!
thanks for trying! i am kelantanese but i dont eat nasi kerabu with the vegetables hehe i only take the rice, the coconut, and sambal tumis
hi nobu shun poco seronoknye tengok kamu bertiga makan'..jemput la datang ke johoq bharu pulak.hehe banyak jugak tempaj yang menarik di sini.😃
I think it is not corriender but bunga kantan (Etlingera elatior flower). My nasi kerabu always asked for extra veggies 😂
Maybe daun Selom.
