Rhapsody in Blue (Piano solo version)
Maru Holloway, piano.
Maru Holloway was born in El Salvador and immigrated to the USA when she was 12 years old.
Outstanding
The top comment (elenatona) says it so well. You are playing the music, not the piano. I have just inherited the family piano that I learned on as a child, as did my father when he was a boy - and this is my challenge. Whilst I can only aspire to your sensitivity and fluency I am finding this such a helpful guide to fingering etc. I was a 1st study harpist so my 5th fingers have had an easy life!
Wonderfull...bravo !
Tremendous accomplishment!
Great !!! beautifulllll !!!
:This was my father's favorite piece of music in all the world. Thank you for performing it with such power and sensitivity.
Simply beautiful. Your version was so uplifting that at times it brought tears to my eyes, old softy that I am.
Fantastic~^^* 👏👏👏👏👏
I'm learning how to play Rhapsody in Blue, and this is my canon - best rendition I've heard!
oh wow, thank you so much!!
Maru, your Kawai baby grand makes an impressive sound. You caught my attention w/ your lovely performance here. Thank you!
I absolutely agree with Elena Letona - played properly with feeling, without ego or pretense.
Well Played - All the Very Best!
I've watched/heard other RUclips performances of this masterpiece and this is by far my most favorite one! I really appreciate your choice for musicality and feeling over the obvious difficult virtuosity of the music/piano playing. It's like other artists were saying: "look how hard this is and how well I'm playing it!!" Whereas you are saying "look how beautiful this is and I'm sharing it with you!". That made the difference for me. Thank you!
Thank you for your beautiful words, they are much appreciated!
Thanks for the beautiful words here. Humility before the beauty of the piece is honors the listener and the composer and the rhapsody of all music, and of the blues! Serving the larger purpose, something larger than yourself is always the best, but its so easy to let ego get in the way and seek more to earn praise and try to impress others and yourself, rather than live fully for the art or the music or the truth or the science or the justice (i.e. statesmanship versus political ambition).
Eugenia!! I remember your visit to Oberlin so many years ago. You were playing Beethoven op. 81a then. I was blown away by your artistry then, and you’ve only gotten better! So beautiful.
gorgeous
Groovy hit version
nice! very clear rythm all the way trough
Oh I loved that woo at the end. I know the feeling, when I nail something difficult I jump off my bench, do a high kick, and then a little dance
Fantastic! One of the best renditions I've ever heard. Expression and feeling is just right.
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you for such a wonderful piece of piano solo. I keep coming back to hear you again and again. I can't help it. I love to hear piano solos like yours where they're not drowned out by an orchestra.
Wonder-full.
Now studying, readying for performance
.you helped gracefully.
Slowed to 50% to observe, free and relaxed hands.
Y
Oh my gosh! You did an extraordinary rendition of this great composition!
Fantastic you play so lovely
Maru, that was great! You're a very beautiful talented lady!!!
Elena suggested I listen to this - she is right, this is a wonderful performance of one of my favorite pieces. I hope you post more, and many thanks.
Absolutely superb! My favorite version to watch as I slowly learn to play it.
This is wonderful and inspiring!
I think I just found my motivation for my next couple of years of practice ! Thank you !!!
Astonishing! Incredible! Music and playing to lift the spirit!
This is beautiful. Thanks so much for sharing this with us.
What a wonderful rendition of one of my favourite piano pieces. You were hard to find; other solo recordings were very 'tinny', so congratulations to your sound engineer also. On a personal note, you look cute as well.
Wow! What a great job! Very classy in every way. Thanks for sharing!
Wow. Great performance. ..and I especially appreciated watching the hands. :)
Wow! Just wow!! Marvelous! Doesn’t cheat on the hard parts like some other solo performances! Brava!
Lovely!❤
Thank you so much!!!
Simply fabulous rendition and a helping of emotive collaboration with the piece. It's a temptation to give this one a whirl. Maru, I'm available.
Enjoyed that.
Beautifully performed!
Thank you so much!
Awesome! Made me laugh out loud. Woooo!
Suena hermoso. Creo que la usaré para estudiar.
I'm not a piano player, but I do have some skill on it. I'm trying to learn some of this piece (first minute so far) and this performance of it has helped a lot. "Rhapsody in Blue" is my favorite piece, tied with Chopin's Piano Concerto no. 1 in E minor, Op. 11, Movement 2.
THIS IS INCREDIBLE ! Where can I find sheets to that?
amazing performance , nice piano sound, is it a kaway rx2?
I'm pretty sure this is the version which I have sheet music for too. Blue cover?
It's just beyond my capabilities, but I keep trying. :) It's that section about 12 minutes in that gets me.
Beautiful song well played
I love this song I'm so desperate to get to this level of playing piano so that i can learn this peace.
Can you tell me about what level is recommended to play this advanced?
I need to Harry up lol.
Please, Please It is NOT a song. A song has words. Here it is a composition for solo piano. So many posts on RUclips refer to compositions as songs be they concertos, symphonies etc.
@@morhywaden why is it such a big deal. If you understand what they're trying to say there's no need to be so nitpicky
There are a lot of posts that identify purely instrumental pieces as "songs". It surprises me that those who obviously love the music and are maybe trying to perform refer to these compositions as songs. Is a symphony or concerto a song? One dictionary definition is " A short poem or other set of words set to music". Sorry if that it nitpicky but that is the case.
2:55 amazing
I would pay 600 dlls for seen you in person performing this Rhapsody
I swear in that entire song I didn't hear one mistake
sorry KAWAI RX2?
Fantastic...
