    Summary of Fred's advice:
    1. If you're nervous, keep it simple because nervosity often distracts you from listening
    2. Put a signature on a tune, show that you've considered the song
    3. Learn to be comfortable playing your original music as loosely as you would play over a standard
    4. Always remember your personal musical values and let them inform your style and practice

We don't need the musical background when no one's playing. We need to listen to the words.

IF it improves your playing on your instrument it is beneficial but it does not it is a waste
