Matt....... you will never know how many people on this planet will become keyboard players due to these videos...... you are simply a positive vibe to mankind.....thanks !
Or better Players.
I played classical piano for 13 years and while it was fun and challenging learning different pieces, it ended up feeling like homework. I stopped playing for 2 or so years and only started again after watching some of your funk keys tutorials and wanted to try out all those licks and techniques. You've made me fall in love with playing piano again I'm so much more of a confident and flexible player now. Seriously cant thank you enough for this content, you're actually a legend.
I see matt johnson. I clicked immediately.
🤣 So I do!
Same lol
I clicked because the thumbnail was the Vintage Vibe, and feeling a little disappointed.
These such amazing practical videos. I've been playing piano professionally for years in clubs, bars and hotels and this lesson should be given to any keyboard player needing clear and effective direction to play and make money in modern music. You are a great teacher and a generous musician. Thanks and blessings.
Dear Mr. Matt!
Your are THE most important and beautiful in MODERN JAZZ - FUNK MUSIC !!!
It´s admirable, honorable and not a matter of course that a world-famous musician shares his experience with us! 🫂 Mr. Johnson
I'm skeptic that this is actually happenning...we're talking about Jamiroquai here...this is nonsense...we're talking A TIER musician here...sharing his approach to music...keep thinking that when he notice it, he'll remove the vids.
It just seems natural coming from Matt... !
@@pollock8000 Jamiroquai doesn't control Matt lmao. It's not his right to have the videos removed, either. I don't think they would even have a conversation about it though, Matt's been doing it for over a year.
Very helpful
actually I can't believe it... it's so fantastic, he could make so much money with that....
It took me years of frustration, effort and sometimes happy accidents to learn most of this. This stuff is gold. 👏
6 months into my piano / keyboard journey, this is both extremely inspiring and intimidating.
Thank you for everything you do.
keep us posted. a piece of advice - always practice your scales and practice the hard stuff. hope it goes well ✨🙏🏾
When I was 10, watching your music videos on MTV, I never thought that someday I could be learning from the person himself about music fundamentals....
Internet... it's mind blowing! :D
You're an absolute legend. I can't believe this is free. THANK YOU MATT!
I keep hearing ‘The Groove’ by Rodney Franklin, takes me back to air piano on the dance floor……..love listening to you Matt, you’re such an inspiration
Thank you again for sharing both your knowledge and that subtle kindness in every video! Let it inspire the world.
Thanks for the video Matt. I love how you boiled the theory down into the essential things and also added a motivational part at the end.
best advice i have EVER heard, anywhere. nailed it. thanks.
Dude! smiling from ear to ear. Rewatching over and over and over and learning tons. Thank you Matt. You're the G.O.A.T
Love your sound - its 4 months since I last visited and the sound is just as fresh. Thankyou Matt
Thanks Matt - learned more ini these 15 minutes than in hours of other course material - please keep up this great work. Your spark is very motivating!
absolutely love these mate. the knowledge you have as a professional musician is actually amazing and really makes your videos stand out on youtube compared with other youtube jazz tutorials etc.
Matt you're already a guru on the keys and it's going to be so cool watching you climb and climb as a musical educator for thousands or millions of people!
Played music my whole life but just coming to keys, you are a huge part of that journey. Thank you for not only being a massive inspiration in this new journey but for the emotion you poured into the soundtracks of my past!
Best 16 mins I have ever spent. Thanks so much Matt for these pro tips.
All your videos are amazing Matt, they have helped me grow as a player the past two years. This video was what i needed right now! Your reminder to ease in and build excitement is a gold mine. Thank you!
25 years on stage I was cheating with the transpose-knob. Now, a few years after finish with the band, I learn and practice more and more. After all it's your fault! 😤
So thank you so much...🤝
You are not only an amazing player, but your advice is amazing and something that makes your lessons over the top.
I've been listening to your music for a while now, but only this week I came across your RUclips channel. I honestly just want to thank you for the content and the clarity of your approach to teaching. Thank You.
This is a nice and concise summary on who to build up a solo. Not only relevant for R&B, Funk and Soul. But also Jazz pianists can pick up on some of these ideas. Well done!
This is GOLD, FRIED GOLD, folks. Liquid, molten and priceless knowledge. THANK GOD FOR RUclips. And a big thank-you to Matt Johnson too :)
Leg End.
This was brilliant. Thanks! Very useful and inspiring. I've been playing keyboard for more than 40 years but always been rubbish on solos. This will help me develop.
I really appreciate the way everything was explained. The entire video feels genuine, it helps immensely and doesn't feel overwhelming in terms of understanding. Thank you for another great video! 🤘🎹🎶
Highest ratio of valuable information per minute EVER. Thank you so much!
This is such a useful video, delivered in a wonderfully simple and clear manner. So refreshing compared to so many other youtube videos. And what a player! I love your note choices, and you've got groove for days! Thank you for sharing your wisdom Matt!
"Doesn't matter, cos I'm me, he's him". Great advice, especially for someone starting out with solos..! Thanks 👏
Thanks Matt for sharing. I love your videos. You not only educate but also inspire, and best of all make these skills seem attainable. Keep the videos coming.
We are all so appreciative of your sharing!
Thank you Mr. Johnson. Thanks from the deep of my heart. Andrea from Italy
I loved all of that! Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge. I liked how you simplified the approach instead of immediately entering this mode or that mode scale which only seems to result in sounding like a bunch of scales instead of a well thought out solo. Keep up the fantastic work! Have a great day!
Loving the phrasing and the funk
How many years I tried to follow Bill Sharpe's solos from Shakatak. You're up front in your face with the keyboard showing similar chord progressions and soloing around them is insane. Thanks so much! I usually follow you through your synth reviews, you should so more of these tutorials also!! Thanks!!! Cheers Mate!!
Matt, all of your videos are so informative and, specifically, very enjoyable. Your content is top.
Genius sent to us simply through trial and error and long experience. I use these scales all the time, bu the idea of a centre had never really occurred to me. Thanks Matt - appreciate it 👌🤯
Thank you for sharing your gift. 😎
Thanks for sharing Matt 🙏
Best thing you can do to support this guy is buy his album. It’s excellent for starters! Go to band camp. And like his videos.. what a dude. Love it Matt thanks.
What an honest, great tip from a world class musician who shares. Wow
Fantastic Matt, thanks for sharing
Wonderful playing Matt - always makes me smile Thanks
This is a really helpful and entertaining tutorial.
It feels like you're not trying to teach.
More like a friend giving good advices,
to further develop our own style.
For me it's heartwarming.
Thank you for sharing with us. 🙏
As a player and a teacher, this is SUPER valuable! Thanks!!!
This is utterly fantastic. The playing is top-notch, the sounds are great, and there's loads of ideas there for me to go and explore. I'm essentially a bass player that has been playing for 50 years, and who can play keyboards to an average standard. I'm so excited by this video, and I look forward to taking it apart. Many thanks to you for sharing such knowledge with me.
Matt I have been following and absorbing your tutorials for a few months now and everyday I advance my muscal vocabulary a little bit more. Thank you so much for sharing. While my guitars gently gather dust I am working my way past "hack" keyboard player.
Excellent explanation! I've been playing the piano for 50+ years and have only started jamming with others, including soloing (which terrified me) - slowly but surely I'm working this out, thanks for the class!
Wow! Just wow! Even as a complete beginner ( just bought a workstation for my 60th- after years on the tenor Sax) I find this inspiring. I can relate so much through my Sax journey. I totally agree on finding the tonal centre and playing in one key (rather than following the Chord changes). I found this totally inspiring. Enthusiasm doesn’t diminish as you get old. (Referring to my age and others like me). What a brilliant and natural teacher.
You have a fabulous ability to explain complex musical ideas really simply.
Thanks Matty. I've stopped playing for about a year now. Fell out of love with my piano and music in general I think. This video has got me thinking that I need to get back playing again, So A Big Thank you! to you Matt. Really Many Thanks. By the way you really are a Super Player. All the Best.
MATT !! that was brilliant !! one of the most informative practical hands on easy to understand lesson... really relatable .. Well done .. Respect..
Thank you for this great tutorial, Matt!
Absolutely brilliant cheers
One of the most inspirational videos I’ve watched recently. Thank you so much!
Such a great video! Thank you, Matt
The phrasing… The touch… the feel… massively inspiring!
Thank you Matt!!!!
YES! More soloing, I constantly get hypnotised by this stuff in your and others' playing. Being able to get so immersed in playing that you just float... these lessons are priceless Matt, more than worth the cost of your extras!
Always a pleasure to see you playing the montage ❤️
Huge honor! Huge fan of Jamiroquai!
Thank you so much for your great and inspiring videos. Thank you for sharing your passion and feelings about piano !
Solid gold upload. Thanks Matt
Brilliant. As usual. Thanks Johno.
Went to find some help with my solos
Found a channel by Matt Johnson🤯 dear God
What a time to be alive
I don’t even know what to say really. I’m so thrilled to be able to hear from you. Your the man! Cheers
Oh man, when you were talking about playing everything you know in the first bar of a solo, when I played vibraphone in jazz band back in college that was 100% me. Spot on, love it!
So brilliant thank you for sharing
Awesome video, Matt! I have been familiar with all concepts you talked about before going in this video, yet this ordered things in my head so well. Thanks, amazing teacher!
Matt, this is very good, deductive and logical. I agree with you to do some more of this. it has been very informative.
Great insights and inspiration come from a great spirit. Thanks Matt!!!!!
Amazing tutorial. Please make more Matt. Its been more helpful than you can imagine.
This is awesome!!!! THANKS SO MUCH!!!
Just amazing awesomeness!! Thank you so much Matt!! I know what I'm doing for the next few months. Please do keep the lessons coming.
OUTSTANDING! Thank You
Always sush a pleasure listening to your solos!!!
Brilliant. Thanks for sharing.
I love your videos. They are entertaining and exciting musically as well as amazingly informative and encouraging. It is so cool that you share this knowledge with us, and you do it in a way that makes a hack wannabe keyboard player like me feel like I could learn something. Thank you for being such a gentle and cool teacher.
Thanks Matt! I've been playing piano/keys for decades, but I've always struggled with soloing effectively--so much so that it's easier to solo well on guitar even though I haven't played that nearly as long as I've been on the keys. Looking forward to fully bridging the gap!
This is invaluable. Been in and out of playing. Done some composing, rock, blues, classical etc, but never gotten to the point where I can solo and elaborate. My dream to sit in a bar/restaurant and entertain people, and be able to do solos, without getting boring. And of course play with a band. There's this guy, Carli Muñoz, who played with lots of wellknown artists, Wilson Pickett, Association, George Benson - and my favorite band the Beach Boys. Now he mostly entertains people with jazz music etc in his bar in Puerto Rico. Wonderful! So thanks a lot for your videos! Awesome! Now I have some practising to do....😊😉👍👏🎵🎼🎹
Thanks heaps Matt!! This will help me add licks to my recordings. I’m a singer of soul rnb that took up keys last year. You’ve been really helpful on this funky journey.
Really great tips, Matt! Thank you
your videos are a real gem matt
very grateful for your content
greetings from Argentina
Thanks for this great lesson, Matt. You are a star! Even better - you are an actual star who shares his knowledge and experience. Just bought the pack. Well worth it for the excellent backing tracks.
The left hand going there at the end and the soloing omggggg 😍😍
Never ever seen anything close to how good you teach in this video! I decided to learn watching this now. Going to buy the lessons and get jamming =) Thank you!
Love it! Thank you Matt!
Matt, you're a literal wizard. Thank you for this!
Outstanding tutorial! I hear so many players solo with scales and no ideas. You can have an amazing solo with just a couple of notes , eg. Miles.
Matt is so talented! Great musician 🙌
Great insights and playing…. the advice applies to many instrumental solos, not just keyboards …thank you
You are the best! These videos are so incredibly helpful and you are such a cool and kind soul. Thank you for sharing!
A very nice lesson Matt!
Fantastisch! Sehr gut! Vielen Dank Matt
What a humble guy. He is amazing.
Master your own style … based on your personality ….pace yourself …build excitement . I,like that approach .. really good food for thought . Inspirational. . I’m an acoustic guitar / mandolin blues player who can only play keys in Cm so I kept away from keyboards ( which I love) but hearing your words ( and your soloing over altered chords) has helped me decide . I really need to get myself a decent keyboard and go for it … thanks for giving me the push forward I needed.
so much more informative than other similar videos, thank you so much matt!
Brilliant. Thank you.
