    Honestly, the period where the RX6800 was heavily discounted was such an amazing time to upgrade. Even to this day, the RX7700XT is similarly priced to what I bought my RX6800 for here in Sweden, 9 months ago. And I still got more VRAM, less power draw, less heat. When giving the card a -100mV undervolt, it goes down to 120-140W... that's 6600XT territory and you barely loose performance. Amazing piece of hardware.

      @@EhEhEhEINSTEIN I think that's because they don't report power the same way. Basically, the 6000 series is under-reporting power usage for some reason. I think the 7700 XT probably uses less power actually. The 6800 is still the better product though. The power consumption difference isn't big enough to matter. If you REALLY care about power consumption for some specific reason, then you probably want to get yourself a 16GB 4060 ti or an RTX 4070 instead.

    Keep in mind that in Starfield, the only place where your FPS is going to take a considerable hit is populated cities. In almost all other parts of the game you're going to see high to very high FPS (especially indoors or in caves, space stations etc.). So if you're getting around 50 FPS in cities, you're going to see upwards of 80 to 100 FPS in other parts of the game. My overall average is 115 to 125 FPS while only achieving high 65 FPS in cities.

      50+ frames was a lot to lose and no amount of sync technology can mask that.

    Still in love with my RX6800 16GB Absolutely the perfect high end card during the high GPU pricing towards the end. The 6800XT was always sold out or overpriced but I got mine at MSRP instead of a 3070. At the time when I made the purchase I was almost bummed out but was wary of only 8GB on a card that I would've had to pay over a THOUSAND DOLLLARS FOR. So at 50% of the price at that time, I still have DOUBLE VRAM today. It never gets old, having twice as much VRAM. Apparently having half the VRAM DID get old, pretty damn fast too.

      I find it very weird that Nvidia had apparently planned to make a 16GB version (which would have been called the 3070 ti), but then cancelled it, and then even the 4070 ti and 4070 were designed with only 12GB of vram as well, and they still made an 8GB version of the 4060 ti too.

    Hi Daniel. On the content creation side, the codec units in the RX 7000 series are 75% faster than the RX 6000 series in regards to h.264 footage in my testing with PugetBench for DaVinci Resolve Studio. If someone uses the card for both gaming and video editing, the 6800 XT may not be an optimal choice. I'll use the 7900 XTX and 7800 XT vs. 6800 XT example since I don't have the 7700 XT on hand.
    DaVinci Resolve Studio 4K H.264 Decode to H.264 Re-Encode
    6800 XT: 110 fps in Resolve Studio version 18.6
    7800 XT: 192.19 fps in Resolve Studio version 18.5.1
    7900 XTX: 192.09 fps in Resolve Studio version 18.6
    As you can see, the 7000 series cards I tested are 75% faster than the 6800 XT with that type of footage but the 7900 XTX is within the margin of error relative to the 7800 XT. That is to say that the differences are due to the new architecture rather than their relative clock speed or VRAM in that particular test. I haven't tested the 7700 XT but given that information, it would likely be closer to the 7800 XT than the 6800 XT in that respect.

      @@jesusbarrera6916 The 7800 XT has overall been faster in my video editing tests than the 4070 and the additional VRAM has been helpful when editing 8K. So no, unlike with 3D modeling applications, there is not currently an Nvidia advantage in video editing. Things changed a lot in the last year and which card is best for you personally depends a lot on which file formats you work most with and whether or not you do a lot of work in Fusion (either in Resolve or standalone) where the AMD cards have a major performance advantage.

    • @perlichtman1562
      @perlichtman1562 10 месяцев назад +3

      I just realized I was vague about the advantage in the Fusion compositing module. 7800 XT scored 38% higher than the 4070 in that PugetBench section, 705 vs 510. The 4070 scored closer to the 3060 (465) than it did to the 7800 XT in that respect. My 4070 is great for my Blender work but for video editing, the 7800 XT is the one I prefer to use.
      The main issue that AMD had at the time of the 7800XT launch was that they had a different driver set for the 7700 and 7800 series from the 6800 XT and 7900 XTX, so I can't use it in dual card mode in Resolve like my other AMD and Nvidia cards right now.

    • @syncmonism

      True. I think one issue is that a lot of retailers can't afford to buy enough AMD graphics cards because they don't realize that the local demand for AMD cards will be high enough, or because the local demand actually isn't high enough. A lot of retailers don't necessarily have any idea whether or not a given AMD graphics card will sell well, and they might be forced to agree to buy a bunch of different products, rather than just the ones they think will sell well.

I’m at the point where I can buy a RX 6950 XT in lieu of a 7900 XT with only mild regret (which I’ll end up doing by the way). This generation of cards has been sobering to say the least.

    • @ARSONIST0010
      @ARSONIST0010 10 месяцев назад +3

      well just a suggestion: RDNA3 cards are chiplet based, so it will take some time to mature properly. RDNA2 cards are great due to there software maturity. If i was you deciding between 6950xt or 7800xt so i would choose 7800xt, because simply it is newer technology, gives FPS same or better than 6950xt, will have future driver support, and it will mature with time. 7900xt is also a viable option if you can stretch your budget.

    I noticed the same thing... card prices in Canada are a little insane at the moment, and often the only midrange cards in stock under $800 or so are AMD or massively overpriced 3060s. 6800 seems like the closest to a deal, unless I want to go the cheap route and grab a decent bang for buck 8GB performer like the 7600 or A750 and turn settings to medium / low.

I think this is down to those individual models/make, as the fans of the RX 7700 XT must be overbuilt to consistently draw 25W more to keep it that cool. You would be generally saving up on your electric bill while still getting a very reasonable working temperature with the 6800 if this is an average user case, though. I for one got an RX6800 maybe 5 months before 7700 XT released, so it feels rather good to feel like my purchase was justified. @@erickalvarez6486 doesn’t need to be low profile, you could easily get a 2 fan, 2 slot design with a 195mm length.

    7700XT (TLOU) averaging 220w and at times slightly lower fps than 6800XT at ~180w and at times slightly higher fps ….. and comes in at a cheaper price w/ 16gb vram compared to 7700XT 12GB ….. I’d get the 6800XT imo 😇🤯😉🥰💪

    Dec 5, 2023. A GPU buyer can get a 6800 for $30 more than a 7700XT. He could even get a 6800XT, which smokes the 7700XT across the board, for $50 more. Or he could spend just $60 more and get a 7800XT, roughly equal to the 6800XT but with AV1. That's not nothing, and could be significant to some buyers, but realistically, all one has to do is skip one evening at the pub to buy a 7800XT over the 7700XT. I'd spend the $60 and get the 7800XT, no question.

    Hi,
    my rx 6800 swft 319 card in farcry primal game reaches 90 degrees in hot spot, highest settings. I wanted to ask if this is normal and what temperatures this card should have? I didn't do any UV or OC.

      @dt35591 5 месяцев назад

      For hotspot temps that's totally fine. Anything below 110c is technically ok because that's the point where the GPU will thermal throttle, so a hotspot temp below 100c is decent and around 90c is just about ideal as long as your GPU fans aren't pegged at 100% to get there.

    Just got my hands on a discounted AORUS RX 6800 new for 400€. Very happy with my choice. Unfortunately and RX 6800XT is 499. The RX 7700XT is 460, so the discounted RX 6800 was a no brainer

    @danielowentech building a new pc atm, only missing the gpu. i already have a r7600x cpu. i work with some adobe productivity programs professionaly. does the 4070 really differs in productivity performance vs the 7800xt ? 35€ (euros) price difference between them.
    im a graphic designer and want to start to play some heavy game titles in 1440p, high fps if possible. (7800xt vs 4070).
    thank you.

    I thinks it could be drivers error for RX 7700xt. So maybe future update will solve it as it is odds to see clock is higher and temp is almost twice as lower then 6800. Unless already likes that then OC 7700xt to around same temp as 6800 probably be a different result plenty of headroom left being below 50c 🤷‍♂😂

    It’s bs that i couldnt even find 6800xt at a cheaper price but i use the heck out of my rtx by using moonlight so I don’t think i would of had such much mileage from an amd card; the market in the Midwest just isn’t willing to cut a good deal if buying used

    Fantastic Video, good to know! I wish AMD would get a move on and get FSR3 out so we get enough benchmarks etc before christmas shopping. I need improved Upscaling and Frame Gen and then I am back to team red.

    6800 doesnt measure its complete power consumption, unlike 7700xt.
    This has been explained plenty of times and video after video, people are not aware yet.
