You can really use any tripod to hold the lights up. These days I have them mounted on the wall, but in this video I was using a podcast style microphone arm to hold up the light
No need for another camera. The iPhone is better than a $10,000 camera from 10 years ago. Using an iPhone is great because you can record yourself, without worrying about focus, etc. Using a 'real' camera, especially most DSLRs, requires a camera operator to do it right.
I have been a pro shooter even prior to my degree in photography in 1976. I’m just now retired but still have not lost my love for Imaging after all these years. I must say your series of tutorials are the best I have come across on the Web. All my life I have had the best and complicated and bulky equipment which I am running from. Filming from such a handy device as a phone with such fine results has peaked my curiosity and your information is teaching this old bear how to do a better job with this strange new technology. Thanks from a new fan.
Thank you for this video. I only record on my phone for now, so it’s great to watch this and learn. I also like that the video was straight to the point. Bless.
spreading the love to you guys! totally using these lock down times to up the youtube game. Great content, Fat Bloke Travels, keep it up! love the cooking episodes :))
As always Justin another really well video explaining that The one thing I would add that I have noticed when using iPhones and external microphones. Is that you need to plug the adapter in first and then plug the microphone into the adapter otherwise the iPhone won’t use your microphone and it will use it inbuilt one. Currently I’m using the Rode Wireless Go 2 So I can be completely independent from my phone and I can have someone else connected to it at the same time. Also every time you need to hear what you have recorded you need to unplug the adapter and then plug it back in afterwards in the order of adapter first and then the microphone connected to the adapter It’s a real pain and I don’t know if you’ve worked out of work around it
today I just bought the lights, microphone and a tripod! I was so excited, your video really helped me with my videos, I don’t really watch these videos because the video are not as good as yours, lol! thank you:)
getting back into filming RUclips videos with my iPhone 8 Plus. This video is amazing and I can’t wait to try filming with the back lense. Thanks so much :)
I don't have an iPhone but your tips can work with any phone. I have Samsung Galaxy j7 and I shoot my RUclips videos with that. After watching this video, I saw a huge difference between my old and new videos. Thanks bro for making these amazing videos for us.
I have an iphone 7 plus!!! so excited to be able to learn how to use it better, thank you Justin, love your content and will be starting to create my own after i watch a few more of your vids!
I forgot the fact that this was shot on a phone after the first few minutes and it proves what we can do with good resource management. Your hard work is very helpful and inspirational for us aspiring creators! Thank you!
Smartphones take better images than $10,000 cameras form 10 years ago. I have some very nice cameras, but when I shoot my videos, even on green screen... I use my iPhone
why can't we like twice? I already saw your video last year, and without me even noticing, I already started the firsts videos, using all I've learned from you and other youtuber teachers... Thanks again!!

SO GLAD that I found this video. I now know how to shoot the kind of video that I want for my new RUclips channel using my iPhone 11 Pro. I need to have my phone much closer to where I am sitting to get more of my upper body in the shot. I am glad that I have already ordered another tripod which will allow me to do this.

Excellent video, I’m a hiker and I’ve only started recently making videos while hiking. I will use and adapt your tips. When hiking everything changes so fast. I use iMovie on my iPad to make them.
Hey Justin ! Great value video. At the beginning I used a mobile car holder stick to a window. Question: Wich application would you advice to record the sound (on an android mobile )separatly from the recorded video on a dslr ?
I don't really have a preference at the moment for audio recording on Android, I've tested quite a few and all of them seemed pretty good - just look for the popular options and read some reviews and you should be sweet👍
This video is really helpful I just started my channel 2 months ago and because of these videos and you and your advice my videos are good quality and well actually good
Thanks Justin, I have recently launched my Channel and I produce it start to finish on the IPhone 8plus. Your videos have been invaluable👍👍 Just wanted to say thanks 🙏.
Thank you so much for this video!! I was trying to figure out how to stop the phone from automatically adjusting the light and this video was perfect!!
You were talking about the selfie camera being inferior to the back camera. I wanted to know if this is true for my iPhone Xr. I found the following information:- "iPhone XR Front Camera:- Some phones concentrate their features on the back camera and neglect the front. The iPhone XR ensures that its front camera has all the elements to keep selfie-takers happy. The XR’s front camera features a 7-megapixel sensor and lens with an f/2.2 aperture". "The iPhone XR has a single 12MP f1.8 camera on the back with OIS and quad-LED two-tone flash. The camera is capable of recording videos in up to 4K60. On the front is Apple's TrueDepth camera system with a single 7MP f2.2 camera and 1080p60 video. The single rear camera is one of the compromises Apple made on the iPhone XR compared to the iPhone XS". This sounds good, but I need clarity. I don't understand these specifications, but I think they refer to the information required. I have found a lot of information about portrait settings, versus panorama and other settings, but all I can see is one video setting, so I am not sure if they are relevant to me. I have found video on my iPhone to show yellow or orange light. I thought it was my home lighting because my lights are yellow, not white, but the reviews said that this was characteristic if the past iPhones. Would please comment Justin, on the specifications listed, to tell me if they are good for making home videos to promote my businesses.
Hey Margaret, this is an older video and phones are definitely getting better now so that both cameras will work for filming. Typically the front facing has less features, like the frame rate or framing options may be limited. But you should be able to fix up the white balance problems on your camera app or with Filmic Pro. So YES, you phone would be suitable to make videos for your business! 👍
Great vid Justin! Super helpful for startup youtubers like me. As you well know, most startup RUclipsrs doesn't really have much cash to spend on film gear and make those professional looking video shoots, but your tips on this video definitely helps with getting the best of what you have and I'll be trying these out with my own videos as well. Thanks!
Thank you sooooo much! You answered all of my concerns. Cameras intimidate me because I'm not tech savvy so knowing that I can use my iPhone 11 Pro max gives me a sigh of relief.
Thanks for that content, really helpful. A small tip; to take advantage of the greater power of your back facing camera you can use Apple Watch to act as your screen so you check on focus and all.
i love how no one is talking about what to do AFTER you filmed the video. how to import the file to your PC, how to convert it to a file that a video editing program will recognize and how to fix audio issues if it comes out in mono. filming a video is only half the job. when i try to load videos from my phone to the pc, it crashes during the conversion. so i went into my photo settings and switched from automatic to keep originals. great, now it's not crashing anymore and i can load the videos on my PC. next issue tho, when i load up the video into my editing software, it doesn't show up, because it's a .mov file. idk how to convert it to a different format. so i tried using the converted video file from my phone (a shorter one that doesn't cause a crash when you load it to your PC) and VOILA it shows up! BUT... the audo is fucked. and again, idk how to fix it. even if i COULD fix it, i can't load a converted file longer than 10 seconds from my phone to my PC because it will crash. so either way i need to figure out how to fix my initial issue. i've been looking high and low for someone to properly explain how to film videos on your phone for youtube but everyone always forgets the part that comes after filming your footage

You deserve a massive thank you, especially from me, for all your help.
excellent starter guide mate. and thanks for the pdf. its priceless. ive done few vids myself and i think instead of buying equipments first, ive learnt that i need to fix my speech and script to make the content more meaningful, instead of pretty pictures and sound but alot of 'urrmmm' and 'errrr' while talking. like how you have demonstrated with just an iphone 7 here :) i have a funny bassy voice and i thought that buying a Blue Yeti mic will make it sound good but i was wrong. still need to fix my voice tone and speech...and my english haha

Justin, the information you provide in your videos is fabulous and suit both the newbies (moi !) and the more advanced alike. They're paced perfectly, they're informative, supportive and provide easy access to additional information and product links..... You deserve a massive thank you, especially from me, for all your help.

Thanks Christine Kaluba! 😀
excellent starter guide mate. and thanks for the pdf. its priceless.
ive done few vids myself and i think instead of buying equipments first, ive learnt that i need to fix my speech and script to make the content more meaningful, instead of pretty pictures and sound but alot of 'urrmmm' and 'errrr' while talking.
like how you have demonstrated with just an iphone 7 here :)
i have a funny bassy voice and i thought that buying a Blue Yeti mic will make it sound good but i was wrong. still need to fix my voice tone and speech...and my english haha
