Hi! I actually have no idea what the salary expectations are for NJ. It also really depends on what setting you’re interested in as well! I do know that statistics about salary are public information so you can search to see the different salaries for each setting!! :)
Do you have any tips for someone who may not have a high GPA and not a communication disorder bachelor's degree? Would taking speech prerequisites classes first and doing good in them help me be more competitive? Thanks!
Hi!! Yes, I definitely think taking speech prereq classes and getting good grades in them could show the admissions committee that you can excel in speech related classes. Other tips would just be studying extra hard for the gre, making your personal statement excellent and compelling, and also having letter of recs from people that can help cast you in a good light as a student :)

I am a college junior who does not have a SLP background from undergrad and was not able to take the prerequisites as I went to an extremely small school and only realized last year I was interested in the field. I know you all were Speech majors, but do you have any recommendations for those without the background prior/on ASHA Ed is there a way to see if schools offer the prerequisites or not? Or are there other resources you would recommend for specifically that? Also, how much will not having a speech undergrad major impact admission? Thank you so much :)
Hi Rebecca! Thanks so much 💖! Not having a speech background really shouldn’t affect your admission because most grad schools understand that many schools don’t offer speech! Unfortunately, I don’t know of any resources for knowing which schools offer prereqs, but I would recommend calling and emailing schools/checking their websites. It might help to narrow it down to the schools you are interested in based on other criteria (location, test scores, concentrations/tracks/unique coursework, etc) first and then check if they offer prereqs from there! :)

Hey! I looked at the courses schools offered, if they had an educational track, if they offered an initial certification to work in a school system, etc! After doing that, that cancelled out schools with a heavy medical focus and led me to the schools I applied to!

Becky Luna Hi! Yes you absolutely can! (At least for most places). Your best bet would be to strengthen your application as much as possible (i.e. higher test scores, retaking classes with low grades, reconstructing your personal statement, etc.)
I think in order for credits to count for ASHA requirements you need to have gone to an accredited school. But most speech programs accept so many people that are “non-majors” who have no prerequisite courses at all, so you’re definitely able to apply to speech master’s programs for sure!! You would just need to talk to each school you apply to individually to see if any credits transfer over! Hope that helps! :)

We all went to Boston University! Two of us majored in speech-language pathology (I also had a minor in Deaf Studies) and one of us majored in Spanish and Linguistics with a minor in speech-language pathology.
This is super useful for me, especially as a current BU undergrad! tysm!!
