It takes a long time; they are most impressionable while they are young, but it still takes a while before they start to come out for you. They are prey, so they are very skittish by nature, their first instinct is to run when they encounter a human, and they often make a loud shriek to warn others of danger. Eventually they start to come out of their hiding place and eat the food I had left, and they can see me in the distance. Slowly but surely, I get closer while this is happening, and eventually they begin to trust you a bit, or at least be willing to take a chance on you, they still spook easily. They do come up to me now if I have food but often will grab it and run, or if they see I don't have anything they just avoid me altogether, so I guess that I'm a sugar daddy for now.
Super cute! Really enjoyed the lettuce. from wiki = In the wild, groundhogs can live up to six years with two or three being average. In captivity, groundhogs reportedly live up to 14 years.
Brings back memories of my hamster. We wound bring him to the park and watch him hop around and go zoom zoom, and he'd pick his own grass and eat it just like this groundhog here. He lived an almost full life, but got sick after grabbing and eating a big housefly... again, just like this. Little dummy
At least they are not greedy like those racoons! My bud found a small one on the road but didnt make it after a few days, just too small but very cute.
It takes some time! They are skittish by nature, so it takes a long time for them to warm up to being around me, but eventually they figure out I'm the grub guy and that I'm probably not a threat. The one in this video was born a few months prior, they spend most of their time running away from me. I'm still working on getting the 2024 babies to eat from my hand, so far it has only happened once, I uploaded that video last week: ruclips.net/video/2wxkXWLuA2k/видео.html
@@froggypwnsI had no idea I’d wake up this morning, pour my coffee and learn that groundhog babies are skiddish. Still working on why people put locks on trash dumpsters though.
@@froggypwnsthere is an old saying used by pervs that says catch them while they are young (I'm not saying that is anything but reprehensible where humans are concerned) but it does work with animals. I have been hand feeding badgers in my garden for years and this year I tried stroking one of the cubs when she first came with mum and now she seems to like a "deep fur massage"¡😉
@@guybeingaguy in my neighborhood it was because the raccoons and bears keep trying to get in them. When I was a teen I worked at a fast food restaurant. It was eleven at night and I went to take out the food trash. I went to the dumpster, or where it was supposed to be. I saw a black bear walking off pushing the whole dumpster!! I dropped that bag and ran back inside! Our restaurant was near some woods in south jersey so we used to get lots of critters. I was used to the raccoons and the possums. But I don’t mess with bears. I don’t think we have groundhogs in Texas. I’ve never seen a real one here, but this one in the video sure is cute. Kind of like a cross between a possum and a raccoon just smaller😂
Yep Texas is too hot and flat, but you might see them in the northeast near the OK border. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Groundhog#/media/File:Marmota_monax_range.png
Woodchuck. We called our neighborhood woodchuck..."Woody." Everytime when I was out and about with the children, if we saw a woodchuck I would say..."there's Woody!" They caught on abot the age of six that there were lots of Woodys in the world.
I enjoyed that as much as he did.
ME TO 😊
The baby makes that piece of lettuce look so good 😂
Best day ever for this little guy.

Aww, sweet baby! 🥰 Thank you for offering this precious a snack. You are a kind person. ❤️👍
I used to feed mine carrot sticks that I chopped up, they even started sitting on my lap. Mama was a big girl she loves them too. 🤣🤣💜💜
I'm jealous! Maybe one day I'll have the same happen with me.
Boy, he chowed down on that piece of lettuce like there was no tomorrow!
I thought the rule was "Never eat anything bigger than your head." I stand corrected.
He's like me... eating the best parts first!
The best groundhog video I've ever seen! So cute :D
Nice to be kind makes everyone's day and world so much better ❤️
I can do that with 2 dozen chocolate chip cookies no problem.

If only we had them in australia, but maybe we have enough wired animals ha ha
I'll trade you for a quokka!
Trust me, your garden or farm doesn't want these land beavers.

I guess it's Groundhog Day after all!
NICE TO SEE SOMETHING NICE UP ON HERE INSTEAD OF THE GARBAGE PEOPLE PUT UP HERE ON YOU TUBE EVERY DAY.
THANKS
Dang woodchucks!!!
Quit chucking my wood!!!!!
