All new dystopian and fauxtopia films, whether they are edgy, daring, or cleverly script and written, will always take inspiration from past films. This movie reminds me more of George Lucas's first directed film, THX-1138. It's Orwellian, and like THX, there's a love story.

That was my first thought. Though, it could be argued, that this is more so an acting vehicle for Stewart and Hoult. Much like Moon (2009), the sci-fi elements are unimportant to the performances.
