The actress most criticized about her lack of emotion now has to act in a film that is against showing emotions and as such gives the most emotionally compelling performance. That kind of irony slaps hard.

I love this movie. It shows how human we are when we have feelings. Simply love it.
I saw this back in September at the Toronto International Film Festival and LOVED it. It's not for everyone, it's a very slow moving, dream-like film. It's quiet and minimalist and very beautiful. If you go into know that it's not some big action thing and know what to expect then you'd probably like it. I found the first trailer from 2 months ago does a better job portraying what the actual film is like rather than this one. Can't wait to see it again, Nicholas Hoult is gorgeous in it.

I just watched it and i loved it. They were perfect..so emotionless and yet so much emotions and chemistry. I felt it...the scenes with the two of them got to me!

Just saw this at Tribeca Film Festival and honestly I didn't expect it to be THAT good, but it was. Even the skeptical in the audience loved the movie. Stop comparing it to other movies, this is not a rip-off, it was inspired by those. Also if you are not into romance, this is not for you. (Or maybe it is...) But seriously, the cinematography, the story and the score alone are reason enough to watch this. To everyone mocking Stewart, she really nails this role and the chemistry with Nicholas Hoult is amazing. GO WATCH IT AS SOON AS IT COMES OUT!

Everyone always bashes Kristen because the whole Twilight shit, which I don't think she'll recover from. But look up the Independent film "Speak" from 2004. She was 14 who played a rape victim and how she struggled emotionally, mentally and physically. It is really impressive for it being one of her first lead roles.

There needs to be a Equals 2. I feel like I'm the only one who wants this. I have so many questions, what's in Peninsula? Does he regain feeling? Is there a rebellion beyond the walls that is working towards trying to take down the people who are behind all of the "humans are better emotionless" thing? This movie has such great potential for a sequel. I really hope it happens.

It's brilliant on so many levels, the acting, the filming, the aesthetics, the music... a true masterpiece. I'm very grateful for this movie and I'm definitely buying it. I caught this at the Tribeca Film Festival. It's absolutely beautifully heartbreaking. Don't judge it based on Kristen Stewart, and don't joke about her "not having emotions." This movie is far, far more than "lolz she never smiles."

veronicamae1 personally, I think that's a defeatist attitude to have when it comes to story-telling. When I think of all the story-tellers and artist that push boundaries its because they didn't accept the status quo. Lastly, just because a film is beautiful to look at doesn't mean it has any substantial value to its content, theme and effect. The very same kind of criticism can be applied to CGI blockbuster films, pretty to look but no heart just style.

And it certainly has heart; the director had a talkback after I saw it and it's clear he was very passionate about it. You don't have to like it, but there's no reason to try to convince me my opinion is wrong.
I don't think you're opinion is wrong. It's an opinion that's a reflection of your taste and experience. You're not bad or wrong for having it; and I don't appreciate that you're accusing me of putting you down. We can continue to discuss with the knowledge that we can disagree about maybe come away from this exchange with a better understanding of another perspective - I believe that's the best one can hope for regarding debates online. I'm sure the filmmaker was very passionate about the film, that doesn't make the film original or bring any insight to the matter. That's also a issue I find with Q&A sessions. I think the ideal audience is one that has already seen the film and made conclusions about on their own; when you speak to filmmaker after watching his film you run the risk of having your interpretation tainted by their experience.

I watched this film TWICE, and all I can say it is indeed beautiful. I loved it. The futuristic side blended well with what Silas and Nia's relationship has to offer. I really understood the movie, it's a great metaphor. It's so relatable, simple, pure and innocent and that makes it so moving and appealing to the heart. The love scenes were sincere, it was intimate, chemistry so electrifying. It's all about the feels, you know. It's a relationship, and I'm impressed on how KStew and Hoult delivered their characters you can really tell that are in love. The plot twist was devastating and it just gets better towards the end. It's very painful and unfair even! I left the theater sobbing and I'm not lying when I say that everybody watching with me were in tears too.
The reason I'm saying this? all of you here were judging and comparing the movie already! You haven't even watched it. It's worth your time, it's worth the tears. Believe me.

Honestly at the beginning of watching the movie, I thought it was a joke. After finishing it, I was left with nothing. I felt as though I was given the cure. I don't believe they ended it right. However, on a bright note, I do believe that Kristen did a great job. I really do like her, regardless of what others might think or say. I think the movie could be good if they made it less absurd, less staring, and more colors. White, blue, and orange gets old after awhile.

This was a really interesting movie, predictable, but thought-provoking and had emotional depth for a world void of emotion. I definitely recommend watching it and also this might be too late but don't watch the trailer as it gives too much away.
