- EL BORO by The Daly Wilson Big Band - "The Commandant's Own" performed an arrangement of this several times. Once I get a hold of "The Commandant's Own" version, I will post that, as well.
as the years go by this chart seems to never age. it's as stunning now as it was when I first heard it in the 70s
Larry Elam's pic trumpet solo is sensational! Then it's followed by amazing trumpet section work.

This is not an Ed Wilson composition/arrangement but, as with all of the signature Daly- Wilson arrangements, it was composed and arranged by Warren Daly and Ed Wilson. This composition/arrangement took 9 weeks to write and the trumpet section feature is from Warren Daly's composition. He scat sang this. You can hear Larry Elam quoting the 5 grouping across the bar that was created by Warren for the trumpet section feature.
Love this! When I was playing flugel horn in a brass band in the early 80s I tried to teach myself this. Got through the melody okay, but I was way out of my league with the soloing! This is the recording I was trying to learn from. So great to hear it again!
That was one LOUD but awesome band!
Larry Elam on piccolo trumpet was a virtuoso. He was a Fulbright scholar who studied with Maurice Andre in Paris. Sadly gone too soon but among the greatest to have traveled on this globe. He was so adept that he played the Met in New York while tripping.

Warren Daly and Ed Wilson, Australia's greatest ever musical partnership. Their band was sensational, and no one has surpassed their achievements. Together Warren and Ed composed and arranged sensational charts, and no big band in the world was more exciting than the Daly-Wilson Big Band. I rarely missed a concert and have beautiful memories of this band in my youth. Warren's amazing percussion work and Ed's beautiful trombone sound were sensational.Thank you Warren and Ed for the soundtrack of my youth. God Bless you both 🙏🏾 ❤️
