As an etude, of course, accuracy and precision are important so that you can demonstrate the mastery of the skills the etude requires of you. That being said, I think the people that say the kid made "too many mistakes" or "wasn't ready" to play this piece have not internalized what this event is. This is not a competition. This is not a concert performance. This boy does not play for you, knowing he has refined and polished it to a performance level. He doesn't. He knows he is nowhere near mastery. When you are growing up learning an instrument, you aren't able to fully master all the pieces you play until after you've gained some more experience. Many people forget that there is a time when pianists are still learning a lot and trying to understand their own body's functions. If any student had a fine music teacher, they should know that pieces that are given to them or they choose should be pieces that as of starting it, are above their level. You must look at this video with a different eye because I honestly feel like it sounds ignorant to say he "isn't ready" to perform this masterpiece. Many teachers don't pay as much attention as to whether or not you can play it with few or many mistakes as much as they care about your musicality. Musicality demonstrates the greatest talent, not technicality. In this kid's development, I think he is at the perfect level to play La Campanella. Performance is irrelevant in this video. The point is is the benefit that his piece has done to the boy. He is at the level to proceed to the next level, in summary, and that next level is La Campanella. I know it's a joke, but just to clarify, Lang Lang isn't judging the kid like "oh, that's wrong and that's wrong. A lot of things are wrong. I don't know if he was ready for this." Of course Lang Lang notices the mistakes, but a good teacher looks for what the students plays right. I think the boy shows an understanding of dynamics and the delicate nature of La Campanella. Other comments say it's a flawed performance and hold just that against the kid. I say it is a flawed performance only if this is played at a venue for the audience as a legit solo. That is not the perspective you should have when watching this video. I see it as a perfect performance because the kid has reached the stage in his learning where Lang Lang's advice would be most effective: flawed, but ripe for improvement.
I really enjoy Lang Lang's humour. I'd feel at home if he was my teacher. He delivers help and advice so nicely. Conducive to building a student's self-esteem.
thirteen year old: can play la campanella, one of the hardest pieces written for the piano me: still bad at sight reading ledger lines on the bass clef
Most professional piano players will never be close to play such a difficult composition at all. So reading negative comments about a 13 years old not yet performing it perfect is just ridiculous!
One of the most difficult piano pieces of all time. For a 13 year old to play it in front of a master virtuoso is not only a brave move on the kid but shows the kids commitment to the instrument. Despite the imperfections, and the many comments of Lang Lang, you can be damn sure the maestro is impressed. Just look at him, the maestro is ecstatic.
He played it well for a 13 year old, although I feel like, especially with classical instruments like the piano, or the violin, there is a level of maturity required, which changes from piece to piece. This is one of those ones that you need to have been playing for quite a while to master. So, he is on the right track! Keep going man!
This I agree. The notes are just notes on a sheet and the music we hear expressed through the pianists fluidity really takes on the personal emotions and comfort level greatly influenced by maturity. This kid did very very well. As he grows emotionally, the notes will be translated to better music and fluidity of motion. When you have a sheet in front of you you can just hit all notes on it but not make good music
19:08 I would've felt so intimidated and anxious and would've probably cried from Lang Lang clapping in my ears and yelling "DADADADADA" trying to keep up with him lol
This piece is hard to play it is an "etude" which is derived from the French word for "study". This composition is designed to help piano students master difficult techniques. I imagine this piece is delicate and meticulous even down to the placement of your hands throughout the piece. This person made a lot of mistakes, but you could tell he was nervous.
I agree But in this piece it’s very hard to come away with learning anything to be completely honest. You will come away with learning how to produce tremolo and fast jumps and octaves but not much else. You can approach Hungarian Rhapsody No 2 and come away with the same strengths
He was definitely nervous in his initial performance. As soon as Lang Lang complimented him he played so much better. He criticized him but gave him the confidence he needed at the same time. Kudos to both of them
Very very impressive from the kid. It surprises me how fast he applies the tips lang lang gives him i mean this kid is a genius and im sure we’ll see him as a profesional pianist later. Bravo
I think he is brave enough for picking this piece.think!! Do you have a lot of opportunity to learn with LangLang? Someone who thinks that he should pick easier piece is the one that always let the opportunity fly away.
These classes are amazing. I really loved how LL interacted with the students! Such passion and honor. One thing I noticed was how he encouraged this young man towards the years to come. He said something like “your foundation is solid! And it will come with time!” Made me think how “mastering” a piece like this isn’t purely technical. Maturity too.
I mean anyone has balls to play this in front of Lang Lang Especially this 13 year old who is already exceptional for his age In order to improve you have to fail What an amazing opportunity it would be to be taught by this man
to me whats most impressive is that he kept his cool and didn't let the mistakes get in his way. In that kind of setting its so easy to completely derail yourself with even tiny mistakes.
I just love how people are like he isn't emotionally matured enough or that he's technically still not matured enough. Guys he's 13. He's playing better than what most people ever will. That's the point. The main one over here. It's nothing short of a miracle.
Tirthankar Ghosh That's critics for you, they drive on negative criticism but fail to realize that their critism isnt worth an average of piece of junk. It is true that the boy had made many mistakes, but the courage of him going up to play with lang lang, infront of so many audience, opening himself up to judgment, that itself is worth thousands of praises, and for a 13 y/o he is more impressive than the majority of the critics here who if i may doubt, have even received a day of proper education in music.
Truly wonderful to listen to a master like Lang Lang educate such a brilliant student. Its surreal how well Lang Lang plays. His fingers operate as their own entity.
I chose my best & most frequently played Petroushka----Lang will be lucky to play much of it at all on the spot. The greatest player of it Alexis Weissenberg played it for 20 years to arrive as the reference. Lang struggles w Balikeriev's Islamey mightily playing it stupidly slow @ 104 to the quarter when it clearly is marked 168! Maybe he's better now, but his recording sounds like a slow practice run thru to anyone who really plays it as intended. Petroushka makes this "The bell" piece seem quite academic.
He's only 13 years old and teachable not hard headed. The teacher experienced this a lot. He is a great teacher to him. Franz Liszt was known as the "Titan of piano music" surpassing the Classical and Romantic composers..Many ladies have a crushed on him The darling of the crowd. Kudos to these pianists who devoted their time studying his scores.
Even though I still need to finish learning the last 2 1/4 pages, and can play a lot of parts really well I still can’t imagine being here and playing for Lang Lang with all of it memorized and all played really well. I’d probably vomit on the keys before even playing 😂😭
He honestly may be one of the greatest child piano players ever. Seriously. La Campanella is one of hardest pieces ever and I can't think of any children who are able to play it.

The point of a masterclass is to learn and receive critique from a master. So to everyone saying he bit off more than he could chew, maybe he did. But he played extremely well and he played a piece that he could improve on through constructive criticism from a professional. So I for one think he made the right choice.

very big props to this kid for his playing and slowly getting over his nerves. to be honest if i had a teacher while playing the piano i would much rather have lang lang as he does have patience and kindness in his teaching. he understood the kid was nervous and tried to have him focus on the instructor. you could also tell that the kid was not looking around to see the audience building up pressure either, which was very good for lang to get his point across and improve his playing. very good video.
Great teacher. The haters can go away- he chooses exactly how he phrases etc. Don't like looking at him in full concert mode, close your eyes. Don't share his opinion on how to play it, go elsewhere.

It’s insane how fast he picks up on the tips and applies them so masterfully.
I really enjoy Lang Lang's humour. I'd feel at home if he was my teacher. He delivers help and advice so nicely. Conducive to building a student's self-esteem.
thirteen year old: can play la campanella, one of the hardest pieces written for the piano
me: still bad at sight reading ledger lines on the bass clef
skyzillah i- wait this is actually me and I’m turning 13 in a couple of days😖
skyzillah it’s nowhere near the hardest piece
It is not the hardest piece, or anywhere near it.
@@braeeee_ It's pretty difficult don't hate
@@artemtsarevskiy2785 I'm not hating, I'm just saying there is much harder pieces
Most professional piano players will never be close to play such a difficult composition at all. So reading negative comments about a 13 years old not yet performing it perfect is just ridiculous!
I think what we experience here is the difference between being really good and being a genius.
J4 Genius what we experience here is the difference between being a genius and a young genius with less experience
I just have the potential to be partly decent and not a genius lol(help)
What you experienced was a genius creating other geniuses. Contrary to popular belief, not all geniuses are born
There was a video of a ten year old who played this pretty much flawlessly
This I agree. The notes are just notes on a sheet and the music we hear expressed through the pianists fluidity really takes on the personal emotions and comfort level greatly influenced by maturity. This kid did very very well. As he grows emotionally, the notes will be translated to better music and fluidity of motion. When you have a sheet in front of you you can just hit all notes on it but not make good music
Body weight, height and strength are factors too, but I'm still very impressed!
19:08
I would've felt so intimidated and anxious and would've probably cried from Lang Lang clapping in my ears and yelling "DADADADADA" trying to keep up with him lol
Lol
He would hype me up but still feel panicky 🤣
Hahahaha
18:02 I worried about that kid
HAHHAHAHAHAHA
12:51 was perfect for 10 secomds
This piece is hard to play it is an "etude" which is derived from the French word for "study". This composition is designed to help piano students master difficult techniques. I imagine this piece is delicate and meticulous even down to the placement of your hands throughout the piece. This person made a lot of mistakes, but you could tell he was nervous.
I agree But in this piece it’s very hard to come away with learning anything to be completely honest. You will come away with learning how to produce tremolo and fast jumps and octaves but not much else. You can approach Hungarian Rhapsody No 2 and come away with the same strengths
@@Idfk365 well it does train dexterity and speed more i think.
It sounds addicting for a to study piece
Lang Lang not only a good teacher and great performer. Also he has strategic thinking - 'save you energy for future'. Great!
It's beautiful! I'm impressed how he listened to Lang Lang's advice, and he really played it very great!

If you can learn slowly, you can learn quickly.
I wish I had that opportunity and skill to meet and be lectured by Lang Lang.
Probably one of the hardest ones he could've played in the time allotted
These classes are amazing. I really loved how LL interacted with the students! Such passion and honor.
One thing I noticed was how he encouraged this young man towards the years to come. He said something like “your foundation is solid! And it will come with time!” Made me think how “mastering” a piece like this isn’t purely technical. Maturity too.
He was a bit nervous but he is such a good student, 13yo cant expect he can feel and express that feeling , he will one day.
I mean anyone has balls to play this in front of Lang Lang
Especially this 13 year old who is already exceptional for his age
In order to improve you have to fail
What an amazing opportunity it would be to be taught by this man
Amazing teacher, dazzling adaptation and growth by the kid too. Thank you for this video!
Lang lang is literally speaking to him in music.
Every comment: "why is everyone criticizing the kid, he's good, etc".
There are literally no comments criticizing the kid 🤷🏻♂️
Literally spent like 15 minutes trying to find any negative comments and couldn’t 😂😂😂
to me whats most impressive is that he kept his cool and didn't let the mistakes get in his way. In that kind of setting its so easy to completely derail yourself with even tiny mistakes.
He made so much improvement in even that short time! He’s going to be amazing!!
The amount of people pointing our his mistakes when they can’t even play the song lmao
Yeah, and then there are the people who don't know the difference between pieces and songs.
@@monition5655 Stop being so pedantic, jesus fucking christ
Nothing Is Real No, I’ll just keep being pedantic, I guess, even though there is a pretty basic difference.
@@monition5655 SHUT the FUCK up
I know right
The way he adapts so easily and quickly is mindblowing to me @-@
I just love how people are like he isn't emotionally matured enough or that he's technically still not matured enough.
14:39 and 14:48 lmfao, lang lang really enjoy it
XDDDD
This is an excellent teacher. I can see the kid improving right in front of our eyes.

if lang lang says
were you rushing or were you dragging ?

lmfao i though about it

Yeah if Lang Lang says you are rushing you are definitely rushing lol
Truly wonderful to listen to a master like Lang Lang educate such a brilliant student. Its surreal how well Lang Lang plays. His fingers operate as their own entity.

Can't wait to hear how this kid will sound when he's older if he's playing at this high level at 13.
Four years ago bud
I know, I’m just saying I’m looking forward to how he sounds at an older age.
"So what piece are you going to play in class today?"
"I figured I would start with one of the hardest pieces ever written."
This kid is so lucky to have the world's best performer of this piece teaching him.
When Lang Lang said: BUMBUmBumbumBumbum
I really felt that
He's only 13 years old and teachable not hard headed.
The teacher experienced this a lot. He is a great teacher to him.
Franz Liszt was known as the "Titan of piano music" surpassing the Classical and Romantic composers..Many ladies have a crushed on him
The darling of the crowd.
Kudos to these pianists who devoted their time studying his scores.
This kid looks so happy to be working with Lang Lang I love it
I like how Lang Lang makes everything seems so easy
Even though I still need to finish learning the last 2 1/4 pages, and can play a lot of parts really well I still can’t imagine being here and playing for Lang Lang with all of it memorized and all played really well. I’d probably vomit on the keys before even playing 😂😭
Its been a year, do you have it down yet?
2 years now
Dude. If Lang Lang played just one of my etudes I could die happy.
14:51 Lang Lang: Now look
Also Lang Lang: fingers moving so fast that they’re blurry
He honestly may be one of the greatest child piano players ever. Seriously. La Campanella is one of hardest pieces ever and I can't think of any children who are able to play it.
there was this 10 year old who imo played a lot better than this kid.
Happy to see both of them are amazing. Even the kid was having fun at the end.

I was working so hard to play a piano and I want to meat Lang Lang I'm 8 years old and I want to play with Lang Lang, You're astonishing pianist emil
The point of a masterclass is to learn and receive critique from a master. So to everyone saying he bit off more than he could chew, maybe he did. But he played extremely well and he played a piece that he could improve on through constructive criticism from a professional. So I for one think he made the right choice.
Who gives a shit youtube commenters are nobodies. 90% of the people are just projecting their own insecurities.
Brilliant kid! Brilliant ways ahead of him. Huge congrats for his parents! 👏👏. Very honest instruction from Mr Lang Lang
very educational yet lots of fun to watch! Thanks for uploading. Lang Lang's a super teacher!!
13 year old kid, trying to execute one of the more difficult etudes in piano repetoire with Lang Lang yelling "EASY EASY EASY" In your ear. I couldn't handle the pressure. Bravo.

Yeees
Lang Lang is the best Piano Teacher ever.
very big props to this kid for his playing and slowly getting over his nerves. to be honest if i had a teacher while playing the piano i would much rather have lang lang as he does have patience and kindness in his teaching. he understood the kid was nervous and tried to have him focus on the instructor. you could also tell that the kid was not looking around to see the audience building up pressure either, which was very good for lang to get his point across and improve his playing. very good video.
Great teacher. The haters can go away- he chooses exactly how he phrases etc. Don't like looking at him in full concert mode, close your eyes. Don't share his opinion on how to play it, go elsewhere.
Lang himself said he did not play that piece when he was 13. Great job, kid!
This is the monster piece, difficult to play.
Piano I have seen u somewhere else😧
Try some of his Transcendtal etudes
or alkan
Piano Man42 yea true Im struggling hah
@lorenzo lorenzo bravissimA
Wow, he did awesome. I can only play when I am completely alone and I am much older than the kid. He did amazing with such a difficult Piece in front of the audience and Lang Lang himself. He took the advise very well and I’m sure he will improve brilliantly.
he's so funny and so humble, he could make other people feel comfortable on the intimidating stage. i'd do anything to be his student tbh.
Wouldn't say made it kind of awkward
