WARNING! - This video is NOT specifically about the Gherkin in the City of London. In fact that building only gets a short segment towards the end. That said, it’s still very interesting covering how architects are working to make skyscrapers fit for purpose within their cultural and environmental context.
Due to planning permission and laws that date back to the tudors,no tall building can be built between St. Paul’s cathedral and Hampton court palace which obstructs the view from Hampton court palace of st pauls cathedral, that’s why planning permission of the Chelsea stadium design was rejected.
33:30 What? European cities have centuries history that Asia and the Americas don't?? There are Chinese and Japanese cities that predate the Roman Empire, Malaysian cities full of huge ancient religious statues, and American cities literally built on the foundations of the pre-columbian cities that were there for centuries (and rebuilt with their masonry). Sometimes it's obvious that particular architects are morons. For that matter, that bit on the world trade centres was...misleading. Their ineffective fire proofing and safety measures resulted in a lot of deaths, if not the collapse of the building itself. (The explosion may have been bigger than what they designed for, but their systems still failed sooner than they should have, at best.)
How can a skyscraper be "...Islamic.."(7:34) !? What dose Islam have to do with architecture!? We hear that a lot in iran. Islamic architecture, Islamic art, Islamic science!!! We call em two letter jocks. Like: Islamic philosophy! 😂
@@nikhilprem7998 Yes it was. Unfortunately Arabs in the name of Islam took a lot more than mathematics n symmetry from Iran and called it Arabic! I wish it was just “Arabian horses” and “Arabian nights” , just administration an astrology...
@@nikhilprem7998 Iran is not an Arab country. Never been. It’s a country with over 11000 years history, including a kingdom 25 centuries old... Islam came to Iran 14 centuries ego and with it came All sorts of diseases. Hostilities one of them!

Another misleading title: This is NOT a documentary about the Gherkin. This is a documentary about the history of skyscrapers in different countries.

Is there going to be a video actually on the London Gherkin? This video bored me to tears.
buildings can not collapse from an airplane crash
The original World Trade Centre was mostly built from steel, and the lattice structure wasn’t ideal.
