  • In today's video, I check out the trouble code for a FORD 1988 E-150 Econoline Van. I was able to extract the OBD1 code using a jumper wire with 2 male ends. Follow the process in the video to get your trouble code.
If you have a Code 51 like I did, follow this series with the links below in order to change your ECT Sensor (Engine coolant Temperature sensor) and/or Thermostat. Thanks for watching!!!
PART 2 of Series (Changing ECT Sensor): • OBD-1 CODE 51: Change ...
PART 3 of Series (Changing Thermostat): • Change Thermostat In 1...

From what I could tell I ended up with a 53 code. it blinked 2 times, then 2 times, then 5 times, and then 3 times. and when I first turned the ignition switch on it sorta blinked just barely. so I guess I will now go look at some code lists.

What if it does not flash at all and just stays lit?

Way better camera work :) Good idea to make that little jumper! I have a 95 GMC Rally with OBD 1 and that port is under steering column by all the other fuses. People can just use a paper clip too with one end in each port, to get it done. Nice you recommended that web site.

What does it mean if the engine light flashes off but then doesn’t blink at all? Does that mean I have no codes?

Man… I’m pulling my freakin hair out with a 95 ford misfire. ODB1 No check engine lights. no codes. Car idles amazing, hard to tell it’s on… until it start to misfire. Then it looses power and jerks all in a split second… continues to idle fine,.. then repeat. Sometimes it idles a little rougher other times like I said you can even tell the van is on. Sometimes it stall at the stop light. I’ve put the following new parts. Sparks plugs, wires, Dist. Cap. Ignition rotor. Ignition coil. Fuel pump, fuel filter , fuel pressure regulator. Aaaaaand Nothing… it’s still runs the same. I fit know what to check next, injectors? 🤷🏾‍♂️
Wtf man… I’m never buying a non OBD2 vehicle again.
If anyone had any hints, tips or advice,.. I would greatly appreciate it.
