I was 11 years old sitting on the front stretch. Although I stopped watching racing many years ago I fondly remember this race. The entire crowd holding American flags and the unity. Sure do miss those days.
Crazy goosebumps when they came around the final turn to start the race. Cars are lined up and hearing them roar. Miss these nascar days.
The prerace was perfect. The call was perfect.
Lap 3 gets me everytime
Not gonna lie, shed a tear on the victory lap. Wasn't a Jr. fan at the time but somehow, him winning this race seemed right.
Sports most popular
Absolutely agree, Jr needed to win this race
I thought I was a NASCAR fan but turned out I was just a Dale Earnhardt fan. The world sucked after we lost him.
One of the most purely American things I’ve ever seen.
The son of the greatest American driver ever racing for a nation hurt by some evil people
Man the cars and racing just looked so much better in these days. As a teen in these days i wish i would have appreciated what i was watching theb
Can you imagine how different things could have been if dale sr. Didnt pass away. DEI would still be around with jr. Never leaving and Teresa not being about to destroy it
The hans device would of been implemented later too
That paint job on Ken Schraders car is why he was my man in nascar. Pure class
No one more patriotic for USA than Xi Jinping lol.
Never knew that Xi jinping was an American patriot, I guess you learn something knew everyday
I was there, 6 years old and will never forget a member of Jrs crew giving me a Remington hat from victory lane. Just wish i remembered who it was
Could you imagine how much that means to Jr? I mean his dad died in the same year all of this happened
some of the best paint schemes ever were run in this very race
Does anybody else miss how patriotic we ALL were back then?
Sadly we’re a country known for its fads and its tendency to overreact to issues and then forget them as everyday life pushes them into the background.
Us blacks were never patriotic because this country doesn't belong to us where minorities here white people are the patriotic ones.
@@pp3k3jamail we're* -and your wrong. Part of this country has belonged to black folks ever since their ancestors were kidnapped and forced to work building it.
@@pp3k3jamail grow up
@@checkitoutgoof you telling me to grow up for what? you really think black people have always been patriotic? I don't know where you live at buddy but I'm from Philadelphia and I currently live in the Washington DC area blacks don't go around spouting USA USA in the hood come on bruh.
Dale Earnhardt Jr.
Correct
Indeed
1:17:24 I ♥️ NY bumper sticker on Mark Martin's bent up Ford...
i don’t know where i heard this but in this race the flag man never waved the white flag (which is probably why the commentators were confused at 3:13:09 ) because the reason i remembered was because it was a way of showing how america doesn’t give up or surrender
The linked article is no longer available but the Wikipedia page for this race cites the omission of waving the white flag for this race. Seems to check out.
It was very fitting for Junior to win and in the first state and this was a event that made the events of 9/11 disappear for a moment but I think this race should be talked about more
Had to come back to this one today. Probably my favorite cup series win of all time
Everyone says jr wasn’t a great driver like his dad, but he seems like he was pretty damn good
he was a very good racer those ignorant clowns are just jealous of his popularity jr was great him and his dad are my favorites
The son who sucked was Kyle Petty
Great win for Junior. I still can't believe the bad breaks Labonte had in 2001. All places he was so good every year, especially Dover.
I remember being 8 yrs old during this race, I had a couple diecast cars. #3 gm goodwrench car an #99 exide burton car. An during this race my mom had some American flag decals in the drawer an I put them on the hoods of each car while watching this race. Good memories
That sure was a heart wrenching day
March 11, 2020 would like to talk with you.
@@AngryGamer1224 coronavirus shut down everything
The Burnout is legendary
Great tribute by NBC on Lap 3.
I was there at 7 years old...
Damn that crowd
Thanks NASCAR for the upload.
I was 8 yrs old first time to a race , loved it , we were in middle stands turn 1 , my dad recorded practice and qualifying
The American people had an Unbreakable Spirit back then after 9/11 happened. Dale Jr proves it. God Bless America and Bud Racing!!!
I was at this race also! What an awesome race it was! Dover is always hungry for cars! If i remember i think cal ripken jr went around the track in a car before.
Got to enjoy this race in person about halfway up coming out of turn 4. The only time I got to see my favorite driver win.
Never forget 9/11
Hi. I was at this race with my family Very emotional race
So was I drove my old van there on old tires wouldn't miss it and made it home safely good day sad for America though
anyone else just see a fire jr. Had in his first few years in the 8. I feel like the loss of his dad kinda dwindled that fire
I was supposed to be there. Mom wouldn't let me fly up. I am still mad about it.
Route 69 I hope her funeral is not for a long long time but the odds of me not bringing it up in my eulogy are 0 lol
Aw man. That stinks
Well she was skeptical about planes because of 9/11
I would be furious
Makes sense for the time. We were in a dream and got jolted awake that week.
I think Dale Earnhardt Junior would have won two or three championships had his father not be killed at Daytona in 2001. His father would have probably retired in a year or two and concentrate on Junior and the DEI Team. Junior would have won a lot more races as well. Although he won after his father passed and came close to a championship something happened to him when his father passed that put a damper on his performance. I have no idea if Junior has ever said anything about that but it is my opinion. Another thing that would have continued NASCAR's popularity would have been to leave the points system alone! I think the Chase Format and Stage Racing are the dumbest things to ever happen to this sport!
Dale was rumoured to be retiring at the end of 2003...
@@trecooledge1326 I mean everything pointed to it being one of his final seasons. All he wanted was to win the 500 once he did that he had nothing left to prove to himself
Yes I think Dale Jr doesn’t say how many the dead of his father means to him.
Jr got hosed in 2004 in my opinion
He also had a bad concussion at taledaga that changed the way his mind was working when it came to racing..but I also agree after his father died he was never the same😪
Watched this did notrmember how much time the commentary spent on Heff Jordan. Wow. Jr won anyway wonderful just or that reason. Great memories.
Thank goodness for SAFER barriers nowadays. Jeremy Mayfield's 12 car got destroyed. 33:15
3 days later they said that Jeremy Mayfield's seat belt broke in his car during that wreck
Nice, crisp lines on that grass when Buckshot spun Bodine!
WE HAVE NOT FORGOTTEN WHO THE ENEMY IS!
This race is pretty cool, not going to lie. Nice choice of race.
@ just before the 35 min mark you can see a Winston cup official keep a tire from going out of the pit box
Bp was the best
@@williamgrantham4481 dude we know
2001 was a very Grim Year
To say 2001 was a grim year is an understatement.
Alternate no losing dale and 911 time line please
Damn will nascar ever see fans pack out a house like that again ?
No unfortunately… Dover on that day in 2001 held 140k. The capacity has now been reduced to 85k……
Never again. It’s just depressing to watch now.
Yes
am i the only one that noticed that nbc said that junior drove a ford after he won the race lol
Just commented that myself…
I was 21 back then. I’m 53 now and it still makes me sad.
You were either 31 then or your 43 now the math is off, this was only 23 years ago. I was 20 and now I’m 43
I miss that bleach blonde hair Jr had back then..😭😭
When NASCAR still had fans
Stop taking advantage of the pandemic to make fun of NASCAR. They have millions of fans
This aged poorly
Lol ok

Yep and his Dad
The son of the greatest American driver, who had lost his own father 7 months earlier, winning in the name of a hurt nation. Cinematic
#neverforget
Never forget brother 🇺🇸
i was there in the infield standing on my buddys car lol
Ricky Rudd was about to rip Rusty’s head off.
I'm one of those loyal fans.
why does the announcer sound exactly like the guy from nascar 2005 cftc
Classic
I was there
Tony blames everyone but himself at the end of course. Good thing Jarrett wasn't standing on the track.
Wilson was the vessel but his dad was there with him is what we all believe
Im here today..
Is it till going
Only way to make it more American
Wave the American flag to start the race
I always like pre-2003 Gen4 design.. (2003 wasn't too bad, but the cars would be deformed from 2004-2007)

I think maybe

🇺🇸
This was great race and season without the chase format nonsense
Tero Alatalo dude shut up about it we know you don’t like it
ZEN ZE MOM UR ASZ
Shut up boomer
The playoffs are far more entertaining than someone winning the championship races before the season is over.
I got so mad when Jeff Gordon dumped Ron Hornaday. He had a great car that day just to get spun out for no reason.
The 14 got what was coming to him he had crowded everyone jeff had had enough
3:13:53 Didn’t know Dale Jr was driving a Ford….. Really NBC?????
It was a ford engine put into a Chevy car, and they happened to know, lol.
Tony doesn't give a damn about anybody feelings XD. What's on his mind is what comes out of his mouth.
During many NASCAR broadcasts you hear the announcers like Benny Parsons, and in 2000 Ray Evernham say about engines that blue up, that most of the time when the engines blow up, like Kurt Busch, and Mike Skinner in Atlanta in 2000, they say that the engines always seem to blow when u list off the throttle, and you hear them say that they don't know why that is. Well, I'm sure Evernham did know why, but the reason why is bc when u lift off the throttle, for a microsecond the car isn't accelerating or slowing down, so for that split second the engine is freewheeling, meaning it's not pulling more is the car pulling the rpms down by slowing down. So for a microsecond the engine is freewheeling just as if u rev the engine 9k rpm in neutral, and everybody knows that's thats the quickest way to blow a engine. So that's why they always seem to blow up just as you lift off of them. There's no tension in the engine and it flies apart.
2001 is the worst year in history because of 9/11 and the loss of Dale Sr. The 2nd-to-worst is this year (2020) because of the infamous CORONAVIIIIRUUUUUS!!!!!!
Roblox and Minecraft Fan 2019 so true
Yes, nobody will forget the deaths of the heroes lost on those days.
I think there have been worse days mate. You know, days where hundreds of thousands have died.
For New York, nothing is worse than 9/11.
@@WildDiamond07 sure, but you said "worst day in the world". The world is a lot bigger than just NY.
Back when it was ok to be proud to be an american now you get vilified.
The commentator said Tony Stewart almost beat Junior off pit road. Someone needs to tell the commentator that almost don't count except for horse shoes and atom bombs.
Back when it wasn’t an issue to show pride for your country now it’s a sin to some people
this was waayyy before we found out it was an inside job, and also before we ended up in the WRONG country for 18 years fighting endless war.
@@xSoccerxCorex 9/11 wasn't an inside job
It's so sad to see how divided we are today. Both sides on a daily basis spreading hatred for the other on Facebook, RUclips, etc. Why can't we just be one country again?
Because instead of talking to each other, we block those with opinions we don't like
@@theironcross2933 exactly they (both sides) talk into the void of social media demeaning others like it's high school. It's really pathetic.
Because the curtain has been jerked back on what’s really been going on.
@@Cts_99 if that were true then it would be the people vs the government
I have to watch these old races because nascar is the equivalent of a Huge turd now and has been for for over 10 years and most drivers are little mama's boys , not sure if there's a man among them these days .
