This was before the internet got started good and when people came together no matter what. Things were not politicized and you just loved your neighbor. This was a great race, and NASCAR did a great job putting this on as the first show back after that horrible nightmare. I can remember that day and what I was doing and how the world just stopped. RIP to all of the people who lost their lives on 9/11 and God bless their families and everyone that was impacted.
Crazy..of all Labonte's accidents that year, they were almost always at tracks he either won or ran top 5 every year. The fact that he still placed 6th in the standings is very impressive.
The roar from the crowd when Junior took the lead... and yes that's a lot of people in the stands. We went there last Saturday and had the whole row to ourselves. I miss the buzz around NASCAR racing back in the 80s/90s and early 2000's, but I certainly don't miss the incredible struggle to get home after the race with 140,000 people leaving at the same time, onto Route 13.
@@JasonDelarosa2000oh yeah if not more of one my dad was at both the 2001 Daytona 500 and the Pepsi 400 he said the roar of that crowd was so loud it could be heard a mile away 160'000 plus people screaming and crying he said it was the loudest thing he ever experienced
Because racing back then had some great characters who weren't corporate puppets who couldn't speak their own mind. I wish NASCAR could find those glory days again.
Man Robert Yates, HMS, DEI, Gibbs, RCR, Roush, and Penske were all power house teams in 2001. Easily one of the most competitive seasons in history. Wish I wasn’t 13 at the time this happened. I really didn’t understand it.
In the almost 7 months after Dale Earnhardt Sr was killed, another tragedy in the New York, The Pentagon, and Pennsylvania was called 9/11. I was in the 3rd grade and my brother in the 5th grade when this tragedy happened on Tuesday. All the sports was cancelled because of this tragedy event. P.S. 2001 is the most heartbreaking in NASCAR history. We well never forget!
It is September 11, 2020 as I write this, and watching this, especially when Lee Greenwood sang God Bless the USA, i had tears in my eyes. Seeing how united everyone was right after 9/11, how everyone came together as one. Race, sex, religion, political beliefs, cultural background, none of that mattered. The only thing that mattered was being an american. The patriotism back then was amazing. Thats the america I want, thats the real america.
i am not an american. infact i was only 15 when this happend and dutch so not so much in to the USA back then i just did not live through it like everyone there. but now that i am so much into the USA that i have the dutch and american flag tattooed in my neck..... this almost tears me up now. God bless America!!!!!!
thank you we support all our brothers and sisters aboard. i was 15 at this race living only 15 mins from the track and so close to ny and dc it was a scary time but also a time of everybody coming together.
And thus began Brad K and his carrying the flag, basically. This is a moment that inspired Brad to carry the American flag around the track. Great that first race back was Dover, considering it is probably the third closest track to NYC.
This was just part of the endless bleeding Jarrett took in the points between the Pennsylvania 500 and the end of the year in 2001. Seems like the 88 couldn't catch any luck.
Imagine if the lovely Kaleigh Cronin, who also sang the same song on the _ZOOM_ special _America's Kids Respond_ was also at this race or the 2002 Daytona 500 with the pledge of allegiance; would she place her hand on her heart or stomach?
I've always like that song by Lee Greenwood, We all gotta stay " STRONG ", Like President Bush Jr just said from the White House, It's payback time and for those who did this to New York, Pentagon & Pennsylvania " THERE GONNA HERE FROM US VERY SOON " we are still mourning from Dale Earnhardt Sr. and know this?
They postponed NHIS til last race of season i belive i was at this race as well as spring race that gordon lead 389 laps i took panoramic pics the crowd was packed even 10 years later crowd was gone
I always wondered how it would have been if Rudd had been Davy Allison's teammate. Maybe Davy would have done even better and not wrecked his helicopter. Ricky certainly would have done better. Woulda coulda shoulda.

This is the race where it became apparent that Childress and Earnhardt sr, DEI, and a few other teams, had been using traction control for years. Teams complained after this race and NASCAR finally started checking the Childress cars. They caught them red handed and did NOTHING to penalize. Just made them stop doing it. Makes you wonder if, between the cheating and the intentionally wrecking his opponents, Earnhardt ever honestly won a championship after his first.
Earnhardt was a good driver but nuthing come to him honest from stealing parts to keep his cars running in his younger days to dumping people to win races Earnhardt wasn't what people an NASCAR want you to think.he was in all reality a dead beat dad an a shity husband to his first wife's an never had anything to fo wiyh kerru till he couldnt Jus ignore him anymore .

3:29:53 The white flag was never waived, because America would never give up. True symbolism right there
Well it was acknowledged at least.

This is a country known for its fads and its tendency to overreact to issues and then forget them as everyday life pushes them into the background.
This is when NASCAR was at its best: 2001-2004. Was so awesome in those days.
A team that needed it and a country that needed it

Jeff Gordon, such an incredible person.
Makes me wish he was still racing; on the other hand, I respect his 2015 wish for retirement.
Rusty v Ricky was a fun lowkey rivalry that got forgotten understandably due to world events.
I miss that Jeff Gordon paint job. The 2001 - 2006 paint job.

Bring Nascar back on NBC

Uh...
Do you even watch NASCAR at all?
