You my friend are a wizard! I really did not think this would work, especially since the first step was “remove the batteries”. I felt stupid trying it but to my amazement when I put the batteries back in the remote worked perfectly 👌

Thanks, Dan. I learned a lot from other articles and videos, but this trick actually worked for me. (Others tell you to press one button for seconds or minutes, but only Dan recommends pressing every button.) When you press buttons, make sure they come back up and don't get stuck in the depressed position or you'll be depressed with the result.

Thanks Dan, this worked for my Bauhn tv. Tried changing batteries and thought something that was rattling inside was the cause. Tried the reset by pressing all the buttons for 3 secs and it now works again. Champion!!

The remote on my Sony tv completely stopped working, totally dead, no light or ir beam, nothing. Was about to order one at £30 + delivery. Wow - this worked on my Sony Bravia remote - TV is 2 years old and suddenly our remote just stopped working, we thought the kids had dropped it one too many times. But it happened 5 mins ago whilst I was flicking around youtube.... and took 1 min to find your vid on google and a few mins to go through the button sequence and wow, this worked! Thanks man, you saved us money and time trying to get this fixed from the place we bought it... (even under warranty would be a nightmare)... no idea how this works without the batteries in, but glad it did. :)

Yes they need to be taken apart & cleaned.

I actually did get this to work. I think if you tinker with this process, it probably can work. However, cleaning probably works as well. Personally I left for like an hour or two, and then it worked.
I also bought a remote from Target, and the instructions were so confusing I never got it to work, so I'm glad mine started working again.

This worked for me even though I was skeptical. My Spectrum remote UR5U-8780L-TWM was very sluggish and had several second lag time when changing channels. I tried this technique and... voila, no more lag time when changing channels. Pretty amazing. Will bookmark this video and share with friends. Thanks!

Worked like magic on a Marantz remote! I had the batteries out of the unit for weeks, but only this method got it functioning. An original replacement would have cost over £50 !

It worked for me too and the remote in question was kept out of respect because the TV and remote were left to me by my grandparents although it was a spare it was bugging me as it was totally non functional .. it does seem rather like it could be a prank but of course a few of us seem to be proved wrong. The tip I will-give is to make sure you always start off with the power button which is not always on the top left so it's not always a consecutive order thing.

I'm stunned!. It worked on my RM Series replacement for a panasonic remote control. I saw this videos and casually pushed all the buttons, put in the batteries and guess what? It didnt work! SO I followed the instructions explicitly holding down each button for at least 3 seconds. Sure enough the remote control started working. Dan you are a GENIUS! In going about your instructions, by the time I got to button #12, I discover it would not push and found that the edge of the button was stuck (jammed) underneath the lip of the case. I free'd the button and wholla! It worked again! I almost went out and bought another remote. LMAO! Thank you sir. I never would of found it if I didn't run into your video.

+Hugo Barranco This really works! First, take the batteries out. Start at the top and press EVERY single button down for 3 seconds, then release it. Press one button at a time, and don't skip ANY buttons. Put the batteries back in. Somehow this restores the settings.

Then you are going to have to use a old remote & replace infra red. Bummer. I did camera thing & saw light but his trick didn't work for me. Only button that comes on red (doesn't cut TV on or off) was my power button. Go figure

umarah Khanum: You are going to have to replace a tiny PCB called a "Preamp". I went to Sears online (shipping was nearly 2 x the amount of the part) but after several weeks of saying they were out of stock they finally said they were having a problem w their supplier, so I requested a refund. After another web search I found one for less than what Sears price & shipping was. Sorry do not recall the co. but you can always do a web search for the 'Preamp' or check Sears & see it their suppler problem is resolved. Good luck, cause I know getting up to manually change the channel is a royal pain.

I didn't expect this to work, I thought that it was a prank to get us all to spend time holding down buttons which took a little bit in order to make us look stupid and waste our time, but I got the opposite outcome. My Panasonic Viera's remote stopped working and I did exactly what he said and it worked. Thank you.
