No matter how many times I hear this, something within me swells with the music and makes me feel complete. Bravo!
Absolutely fantastic. Chills run down my spine when listening. Great performance❤
This is one of the most beautiful orchestral pieces ever written. It is awe inspiring and sets the soul ablaze. This performance with Sir Neville Mariner is flawless in both its execution and interpretation. Sublime in every aspect.
I was born in Mexico. Moved to the UK for work at 32 as part of a company relocation. I became a British Citizen at 39 and could not be prouder of my new country.
❤❤❤
One of the most sublime and most beautiful piece of music ever written...Thank you Orchestra and Sir Neville and Mr Elgar..
tears in my eyes
Makes the hairs stand up on the back of one's neck. Sir Neville had a great affection for, and affinity with this music. It was an honour to be a part of this iconic musical event.
Same here , great stuff, stirs the soul, what a piece of beautiful music , sends a shiver thru my whole body 🙂👍
After a long lifetime of loving beautiful music Nimrod has become my all time favorite.
I dedicate this to my late father who died on the 20th January 2024. who respected, admired and enjoyed all of Elgars works. God I miss him, part of Sevenoaks died when my father died.
I'm sorry for your loss; a beautiful dedication. My dad died in January 2001 and I still miss him. Music like this reminds me of him, too, as he was a proud Brit even though he emigrated to Canada many years ago. May the music and memories sustain you in your time of sorrow.
I played this at my fathers too and everyone said it was the nicest and most suited to my father. That was 30 years ago. How we span time...
@@arbymusicaustralia I'm sorry for your loss (despite how long it has been; it's still a loss), and grateful this beautiful piece of music has meant so much to many of us in our times of sorrow. Blessings to you.
This piece of music brings tears to my eyes, absolutely fabulous rendition ,great Orchestra, exellent platedebuterte. Greetings and warm thoughts to you from Norway.
Exellent played🎉sorry for the misspelling
Absolutely one of the most beautiful pieces ever written. The genius of Sir Edward Elgar at its finest. Nicely performed as well.
Every time I hear this music, what impresses me about Elgar's writing is this. He could have ended the piece with a great crescendo, a big blasting finale. Instead, after the emotional climax, it softens to a beautiful, quiet finish.
Genius move, so satisfying. Superb performance.
One of the greatest conductors who ever lived and a legendary music ensemble whose virtuosity is undisputed!
Yes, just yes.
Absotively-posilutely!
Mariner's interpreting Elgar's nimrod gave me aesthetic chills--and I'm not English. Music is the global language.
Always moves me to tears.
Me too!
This is what heaven sounds like !!!
You're so right. So so right!
@@academyofstmartininthefields WE ARE so so right!
Getting me through some hard times at the moment!
You are in good company!! @@kevvynolan8753
The best performance I have ever heard of Enigma Variations ، The Great Sir Neville Marriner Rest in Peace One of my biggest dreams is to one day conduct the Academy of Saint Martin in the Fields.
I can't love this enough... Sir Neville gave me one of his batons when I was leaving my job ( Minnesota Orchestra). This piece is wonderful - especially under his baton! He is missed!
Each time when I listen to this wonderful piece of music, it gives me goosebumps. It's just overwhelming.
This is such a glorious piece. The tympanist at 3:00 onward... he's putting his whole being into the playing. Incredible.
What a beautiful interpretation of Nimrod. I loved when the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields, under the direction of Sir Neville Marriner performed in the music in "Amadeus."
Straordinaria musica , che ti prende e ti fa pensare...
I don’t read or write music but thankfully I can listen. So many GREAT renditions of this beautiful piece. Thank you Edward Elgar.
This should be dedicated to queen Elisabeth 2nd.... the greatest monarch to have ever lived!!!
theres certain english greatness that manages to be understated, while others countries its obvious and in your face. With time and life experience I've managed to learn that true greatness in countries and people is the one spoken quietly and not screamed.
It's criminal that this only has 2300 views
Sweet heaven such magnificence! The sense of climax when the timpani roll and the brass roar, and the prompt quieting as the planet flies into darkness. Surely this is what Elgar hoped.
Agree with you 1000%

I love this music, but I can't say why. ❤❤❤
I think this is a brilliant rendition. I listened to Bernstein's version just before this and it was over-egged. This just lets the music speak for itself, with a hint of quiet restraint, making it even more dramatic.
Well it NEITHER s it is Elgar for Gods sake
Just listened to the Bernstein and this is about the same tempo and the Brits say it is too slow....nope
I was watching the Remembrance Sunday event from the Cenotaph and this piece always gets the tears welling, I think because I associate it with Queen Elizabeth II's funeral.
Touches my heart
Felicidades.
Thank you Rafael!🥰
The best version on youtube! Too many rush the tempo on this stunning piece. bravo ❤ xx
You are one of the FEW who truly appreciate the importance of tempo in this piece... which MUST have its due... wherein EVERY note is played it's fullest as layers of sound create such an emotionally powerful piece !!
I completely agree! The tempo is so important. The flow of the music is defined by the tempo. It is crucial for this piece so that each note can be savored, and each phrase can slowly build upon the next to reach an emotional crescendo, then gently fade to a whisper at the conclusion. Most renditions I have heard, as you rightly point out, rush the tempo so much that the true beauty of the music cannot be fully appreciated. Neville Mariner, however, was a master at his craft and this sublime performance will remain unmatched in its ability to touch the human soul.
Absolutely gorgeous.
Pure heaven!!!
IMHO.....THE most beautiful piece of music ever written. I have listened to countless interpretations and tempi.......but for me.....the tension engendered in Bernstein's recording is unbearably beautiful.
God it's so emotional and stirring. Imagine having a mind that can create such magic!?
This is the only version that is pure and true. Has become my favorite music.
2:07 - white roses. love that.
3:20 - the timpani player - perfect support.
3:42 - the green circular "Academy of..." monogram = a perfect idea - You-all deserve that.
Thank you Sir NM & the Academy, for this Wonderful performance, and for SO many other great performances through the years.
Beautifully executed, so powerful!
It's truly a delight 😊 to
conduct this unforgettable
masterpiece.
I feel I'm in Heaven.❤❤❤
This absolutely brilliant!! Thank you!
England's finest .
Marvellous
Beautiful. Lifts the soul
I love this song.
Superb
It's a Sunrise.
Sir Neville Marriner was the most friendly conductor, whom I ever met. He was a real gentleman. Conducting Nimrod it sounds more natural than usual. Others abuse this pathetic and melancholic piece for a kind of soul striptease. Not Sir Neville. Someone like him will never come again. I miss him.
How can you abuse something as sublime as this . ?
Those people are afraid of themselves and the emotions such music evokes. They are not complete . I pity them.
You have the right street address wrong town. Enjoy your dotage.
If this doesn't move you, nothing will
Very beautiful 😍
I subscribed here to thank sir Mariner for his passion and the gifts that he gave and gives to us. Do the same if you’ve grownup appreciating his difference…
Mariner REALLY "steps on the gas" at 2:17 and has the trumpets SING over top of the rest of the orchestra... until that EXQUISITE area at about 3:08... which is unbelievably SUBLIME... as the tympani COMPLETE the full picture !!!
Remember Arthur Daley and Ray Daley at the funeral in Pinner, and Ray saying to the bereaved gangster's wife that "Elgar was the boss" or words to that effect? I think the episode was called 'Guess Who's Coming To Pinner?' Drink it all in Ray, you'll not see the like of this again. Drink it all in.
Wow, just wow.
Where are the American composers of great music like this? Why are there none?
Yay! Timpani!
You. Will not. Hear it like. Again 😢
I go to prepare the place for all.
Saludos
Dioooossss...!!!
My dear ,late Grandfather told me as a boy ,that music like this is a cure for atheism ,because if you can listen to this and not think a human being is so much more that just a collection of skin, blood and bone ,then their is something wrong with you.
Lord Hardthrasher brought me here.
and, unfortunately, the videographer cut away from him at the crescendo!
Ahhhh..
3:08
Why was this recording clipped at both ends?
Excellent--but blighted by the new craze for fading out ,far to much--in my opinion .
beyond beautiful, almost unbearable to listen to.
