FIRST MARLIN - West Coast, New Zealand

After travelling over 800nm from Nelson to Raglan on the West Coast of New Zealand, its safe to say this trip is one I'll never forget with the legends on board Valhalla.
This was our first Marlin trip for 2024 and it didn't disappoint.
Arriving off the West Coast of the North Island in the early hours of day 2, we had 2 Marlin in our lure spread with in a couple of minutes of setting the gear. We were unlucky to not hook one of these fish but it certainly got the blood pumping. The rest of day 2 turned out to be pretty slow but it all changed once the sun went down while deep dropping in the dark.
Day 3 started off promising with plenty of bait around but we couldn't managed to find a fish. After a bit of a feed for lunch our luck changed and we had hook our first Marlin of the trip which we ended up dropping. This got everyone all excited again after a slow start to the day and it wasn't long before we hooked up again but this time we managed to make this one stick and we landed our first Marlin for 2024 which was also the very first Marlin I had ever landed on a boat. After a few pics and a bit of a celebration it was time to get the lures back in the water again and we managed to land a massive Mako Shark as well but couldnt find another Marlin before we had to make our way home to Nelson. This is a trip that is full of memories and one we will never forget.

It was his very first Marlin and he decided he would like to keep it which at the end of the day is the anglers choice that we all supported on board.
