@@BaileyEris Thanks. From what I could find in support is that I need to go from Yosemite to El Capitan and then to Monterey. I waited until my 2022 Midnight MacBook Air was successfully migrated to and made its first TimeMachine backup. I now feel ready to reset and get it ready for another person to use.
@@BaileyEris It gets better! When I saw "Reset to Monterey" I was happy to see Monterey. It's now installing that and says will take 2 hours and 6 minutes more. Happy it can just jump to the latest Monterey. Thanks for the encouragement.
It works I just used his steps on my late 2015 13" MBP retina display and had 0 issues. Thanks bro. The people who claim it doesn't work you don't know what you're doing!!!
It's years later. Apple is on a whole new setup with these computers and installs. The steps may have changed or they just might have it blocked because they want you to bring it in to them. I'd do a search for whatever the current steps are @@dswagg5215

If it shows the folder with a question mark turn it off and press Command and R 3. Turn it off and press command and R Itll show a screen and type in your wifi and password 4. Youll come across a screen that has the world spinning. wait for it to load (takes about 20 minutes) 5. after, select your country 6. Go to Mac OS X 7. Agree and install

Hello. Just came across your tutorial. I have a 2014 Yosemite Mac. I followed your instructions but when I got to the part where you reinstall, it keeps asking for my Apple ID and password which I don’t have. This was given to me by my sister. Can I get around that?
What do the formats mean. And if u select a specific one does it only delete a certain data? Or certain settings and no data? And if so what format deletes what.
When I get to the "Erase Macintosh HD" part, under format it doesn't have an option for me to pick Mac OS Extended (Journaled) it has APFS in four different ways.
I followed the first part of the instructions, then it went to Reset Password screen. It is a MacBook model A1534 which was my daughter's and it is password protected. She passed away 2.5 years ago. I went through Apple and successfully filed through the Legacy account and had her Apple id account deleted (per Apple tech support) and now I want to add the device to my apple account. Suggestions?
