  • Hello friends and welcome back to another video! This time I'm printing and painting up Buttermilk Bob from Commissar Gamza's Patreon subscription. I will also be reviewing the subscription too so stick around!
    This is the first video in this series so let me know what you think, I'm curious if I should do more like it. If you want to get a copy of Buttermilk Bob for yourself head on over to Gamza's Patreon page below, or check out his RUclips content too if you haven't yet.

    1st off, BBEEEAACCHHH!!! This video was great! I love the criticism and immediately placed the unsupported Bob files (pieced model) in an updated link for Bob, they should have been in there and I thank you for addressing that.
    As for the supports, I would be interested in your offer!
    Your bob turned out great, I was just wondering where that beautiful "U" on his chest is?! Bob always loves the white on his chest, haha!
    No one likes excuses, but the truth is, this is not a 1 man operation, and when multiple people fall through and break promises days before what was agreed, the heat is dumped on my head to get it done, rather than it being perfect.
    I see it as: Do the supports work? Yes they do, my results are good and have shown my prints. my models don't have massive pit damage or anything, but I also use wire snips where it may be needed, I don't try to pull them off like I would with infantry supports.
    Thanks again for the support and the time to make a review! all things said, I am glad you did enjoy the models =)

      The Commissar himself! Thank you for taking the time to watch this video and respond, its great to hear you're receptive to the criticisms I had and are already implementing fixes.
      Y'know I strongly considered freehanding that U in, but I just didn't trust myself not to absolutely ruin it haha.
      Completely understandable the stresses of a strict release schedule, and that doesn't at all sound like it helps having people flake like that! I hope you're able to build a more reliable team over time.
      Thanks again and I really appreciate you seeing this video and taking the time to respond. I've reached out through Patreon to discuss presupports further :)

    Correction: I was incorrect about the Commissar Gamza Discord server, he does actually have one and it's free for anyone to join, its just not mentioned anywhere on the Patreon page, but on his main channel instead so that's why I missed it.
    Now for an update: Moving forward all Gamza's current and future files are going to be presupported by me! He has graciously given me a role on his team as the presupport guy, so my biggest critique in this video of unsatisfactory presupported files is no longer going to be a concern if you were worried about that. I've sent over the Buttermilk Bob files that I made for this video, and I'm currently working on the tanks so they should be available real soon :)
    New update! 18/08/22 - I am no longer presupporting the files for Gamza's Patreon! The rigors of my day job, building a RUclips channel and presupporting + test printing and producing extra content was not entirely sustainable so I've decided to part ways and focus my attention and energy here on this channel. Gamza was an absolute legend to work with and I'll be grateful to him always for having given me the opportunity

    very good video.. i liked it! just a tip, next time you have to match two half parts, before uv resin you can try to soak the pieces in hot wather for few minutes.. then you can easly combine them in place and put under running fresh wather while you hold the pieces in position. i love this procedure, helped me a lot in similar situation.

    One other thing to say is I'm not surprised Ghamza isn't putting out a high quality end user product. He's always struck me as a layman at best.
    His content often IMHO gives off an anti-intellectualism vibe outside of the more pronounced anti-monopoly/free market unlikely hero he presents himself as. It's why the butter milk Bob foible has always struck me as a little odd as he uses it for any detractors regardless of if they fit the charcuterie of a GW fanboy/wage slave.
    Now this might be my bias though so I'll not belabor the point more.
    Thanks for the video again and I enjoyed your take on his mini!

  • @DanielVisOneCade

    My dude this was a really interesting video thanks for taking it to the level you did.
    I'm still at the tipping point of getting into 3d printing and the experience regarding the quality of pre-supported file quality etc is certainly really helpful.

    • @OnceinaSixSide
      @OnceinaSixSide  2 года назад +1

      Thanks for watching and for your comments! If I can persuade even one person to dive into the world of 3D printing then it's worth the effort. I'd say if you're at the tipping point, there's never been a better time to get into it. There's a good selection of printers out there now for every budget, and honestly compared to filament printing with the rolls of plastic and the hot end and everything, resin printing is a cake walk by comparison - sure there's a few things to learn like dialing in your resin settings, keeping the bed level and some imo straight forward maintenance like swapping out the consumable parts (LCD and FEP) but you're not required to know all this going in, you'll learn it as you need to. I'm going to be covering all of this in some upcoming videos.
      The majority of presupported files out there in my experience are quite good, but every so often I find some like this that leave a lot to be desired. After printing for a little while you'll likely develop an eye for sketchy supports and spot them before you even slice the files. As for Gamza's content in regards to your other comment, I completely get how it can be a bit polarizing. I was actually talking to a friend of mine about it the other day and found out he does not like the channel at all, whereas while I'm no hard core fan I do enjoy the 3D printing videos he puts out.

      @@OnceinaSixSide cheers me dude I'm sold on the practical & economic side of it plus obviously OPR etc but the space, cost & time aren't appropriate to my current situation.
      Once I've got a dedicated hobby space again & I'm not self employed I'll pick it back up. Thankfully I have plenty of skilled friends in this field who are happy to trade dollarydoos for resin crack. I've got some of the Reptilian Overlord - Space Nam on order right now but even those still lack some of the points you brought up.
      I.e. a quick easy way to know what file (outside of a name) is for what.
      No full model shots.
      No attached text files on limitations, suggestions or accompanying settings.
      So yeah knowing what sets a great product above a good one or an adequate one is worthwhile knowledge.

    • @OnceinaSixSide
      @OnceinaSixSide  2 года назад +1

      @@DanielVisOneCade Reptillian Overlords put out great stuff! I've bought and printed a few of their kits and they're very well done, I had zero issues if I remember correctly.
      Yeah not including images its a small thing but for data hording it's really handy, I usually make the effort to download the images and store them manually if none are included and I know many other people do this too. Would just be nice if creators could throw these in right off the bat.

    None of these issues would have occurred if you simply didn't 3D print that model in the first place! If you instead bought Games Workshop models, those would have come in 40k quality, right out of the box, and without any misprinting shenanigans. 3D printing was doomed before it even began. Games Workshop is the future.

      Thats awesome! Mini painting is I think is a bit unique in that it can be art if you want it to be, and also just as easily be a means to an end (gaming with painted minis). I tend to fall into the latter camp, but having said that I do enjoy when the techniques I employ result in visually interesting outcomes.
      As for printers I can't recommend taking the plunge enough, and my experience with two Anycubic machines has been excellent. First, the Photon S, and now the Mono X 4K. So if I could suggest a printer, definitely take a look at the Photon Mono 4k or Mono X 4K if you want something larger.
