What elements in a pattern do you classify as intermediate vs advanced?

      Boy thats a subjective question.
      For me...
Beginner is the basic 6-7 patterns.
Beg/Int would be the next level of basic patterns. (example a free spin instead of a basic inside spin)
Intermediate 'could' be more difficult versions of patterns with different hang holds or in the case of this video the introduction of a concept like the 'rock and go.'
Advanced would be using several of these intermediate concepts together to ramp up the difficulty.
On my website I try to subscribe to those general rules but man it sure is tricky!
      Hope that helps!

West Coast Swing Online That has always been the challenge for building a balances syllabus in WC because of the non standardized elements. Its a very top heavy dance it seems pattern-wise. Basics, passes, simple turns and basic whips but after that theres just a boatload of intermediate and even more in advanced.
Do you ever find it challenging to find more variations for students who cant move into the next levels but have gotten down all their patterns in their current tier?

Yes I agree with you 100%
No I don't find it difficult to find variations provided the students are building the skills necessary at the levels that they are at. Sometimes we need to go back in and upgrade the technique before moving on to the next level.
You pose some good questions though!

West Coast Swing Online Thats the real beating. Improving technique but keeping it fun for the student. Working on clean foot work and sharper timing.

Yes, Yes and Yes! I try to have a logic flow where the patterns for a month are based on one concept or technique I'm trying to get across.
