Marvelous video and super helpful! Thank you so much for making it!
Per WIS, remove the battery sensor on the negative terminal first before removing the negative terminal! Great video, thank you

Great video! Exactly what I needed.
The same seemed to work on the moon roof.
Thanks for this, especially the electrical part.
Excellent vid as always
Super clear instructions and very helpful! Thanks!
You should disconnect the BEM-Sensor cable on the left side of the negative cable before attaching it back, the sparks could damage the sensor due to voltage spikes. After tightening the bolt, you can reattach it.
Very informative video as usual thanks for giving us the clue and saving us money too top man cheers 👍👊
Thank you for your help...very simple and practical....
Excellent explanation. Cheers
Excellent content and very helpful. Thank you very much for taking the time to walk us through to minimize or avoid the pain changing the main battery.
Excellent! Very appreciated here!
Excellent, no nonsense instructions clearly stated and presented!
Glad you enjoyed it!

That tip at the end about clearing warnings on dashboard!…I’ll admit I tried it with a lot of scepticism, but it worked!
I’m sure you have saved , not only me, but a lot of others heaps of money on garage bills👏🏼
"Hi Susan. I was a bit bored so I dismantled my Corby Trouser Press. I can't put it back together again. That would be me with a car battery! Nice video mate
Here in the states i replaced battery in my 2002 e320 and on the new battery there was no plug in for the hose thingie. Also when reconnecting the battery the alarm went off and finally figured out the key needs to be in the ignition first. Yours being a newer model i could see you didn't have that problem, must be on older models only i guess. Thanks for posting
Thank you mate. I have another problem with me car. Do you think the battery replacement had anything to do with the gear change. I have taken it to mercedes slough twice on different occasions with the gear problem and they said it had no issues with the gear. Instead they fixed the turbo pipe within the engine and a software update, they also mentioned that the gearbox mounting is also affecting it but I didn't get that changed as it was an £800 job and also didn't know if it would fix the problem. Could you help me what could be the issue so I can get it fixed. P. S I have already changed the gearbox oil. Thank you
Verry helpfull thanks,A specialy with the windows problem, again thanks.
w204 c200 cgi yb2011 / did it just like that , no problem at all ! /no further setups necessary even the time set up itself after ten minutes ride./ All settings just like before ! Great thanks for the video thanks to mercedes for the easy installation ! Refer to the manual , if insecure, it is described just like that !
Thanks. Very helpful

Excellent video. Most helpful. Thx

Well explained. Constructive tip; fender cover and remove watch :)
A nice clear and concise video and then the confusion starts in the comments. You need to attach external power during the change...wait, no you don't. You need to reset the computer... wait, no you don't. The Merc forums are just as bad.
Great video 👍 when ever I purchase a car I always replace the battery/ies as I know from that moment I do this I'll have 4 years worry free concern about them. My 2006 CLS 320 cdi has 2 batteries the big main in the boot which I replaced with a Varta make I consider them very good reliable batteries, the 2nd smaller one same size as a motorbike battery is in the engine bay that runs the SBS system I highly recommend you purchase the Mercedes one I've found the aftermarket ones the terminals are the wrong size M6 bolts whereas the Mercedes one's are M8 bolts.
really good video, i'm about to do the same on my older bclass 2013 W246.
Thanks mate
Worth mentioning the adjustment on the bonnet strut to allow the bonnet to come back far enough to allow space to get the battery out easily.
Yep, as featured in my video here: ruclips.net/video/fC3srVStY9s/видео.html

the days of British cars with 6Volts and positive chassis are not so old... it kept mechanics well busy 😅
how would i reset on a v220 2003 w368? battery was off overnight i know it can be reset from the key but not sure how?
Hi mate after disconnecting the battery and taking hours to start replacing it my car doesnt try to start and i get a error message electronic ignition lock and steering column module and ideas on how to solve this? Also windows wont move other than that everything else is normal
Any help would be appreciated thanks
Hi, Thanks for the video, would this be the same constraints with a older model, I have a 2004 S430, from what i researched so far, they say its a complex computer and must never loose power to the computer while the battery is being reset. Will you method work on my model of benz? Please let me know. Thanks
Hi, Yes it should work the same on any model, cheers :)
Thank you for your informative video. I want to ask you about a problem we are having in E300 (W213) 2018. The parking pilot and hold function sometimes work and sometimes not. We changed both the auxiliary battery and main battery and after the changes they work but in the next day the problem comes back. The dealership was of no help. They had the car for around 10 days and cost around $800 and they are not sure of the cause!
The parking function has been removed by MB in some countries due to Legal issues. possibly due to that.
Cant help re: Brake hold sorry
@@killerhertzmercedes Thank you very much for your reply. It is not removed here in Oman as it works fine with others and sometimes works fine with us. I will update this comment if the problem gets fixed for reference for people who might face the same issue.
was the new battery registered?
There are two vent holes on the battery - one with the tube and one with a cap on the opposite side. You need to plug the spare hole with the red cap from the old battery seen in 3:17.
The new battery had a black cap/plug in it already so didnt need it.
It depends on the make of battery whether or not it comes with a blanking plug. I’ve just replaced the battery in my C350 with a Bosch and it didn’t come with either breather hole plugged. If the end opposite where the breather pipe fits isn’t blocked there’s a risk of acid vapours escaping and eating into the battery holder.
I purchased the same brand of battery that you fitted. I phoned the supplier to ask about the spare hole opposite the breather hose and they stated that it MUST NOT be plugged at anytime. I am now totally confused.
What year is yours? It's about time to change my 2014 CLS550. Thank you so much for your video.
2011, should be the same
Hi great vid as usual thanks, have just changed steering wheels from an AMG unit back to a woodgrain unit on a 2013 E class and now have a message coming up saying RHS air bag Fault contact workshop? Any thoughts please?
The Airbags may not be fully compatable. If you have a scanning tool try and code it out. otherwise you might need to swap it back.
Thanks for the informative video, could you please help me to get the (P & ECO) functions working? I just replaced my auxiliary battery yesterday for my E220 night edition 2016, I can see the ECO became yellow instead of green and whenever I break I see the HOLD on but the engine keeps on, also the P and the parking arrows appears for the parking assist but they are not working, I was told that I might need to reset the computer but no idea how.
I look forward to hearing from you
Thanks
You need the main battery changing, not the Aux for the Eco functions. thanks.
FYI: ECO stands for "Engine Cut Off" there are many conditions that can upset its normal functioning. The engine PCM trys to evaluate tge condition of main AGM to make sure it can safely command a stop and the car will be able to restart after sitting under 30Amp. load then 100Amp burst for starter.
✌️
Hi, Can I do the same process with replacing in the new A class model w177?
Hi, yes it should be the same.

disconnect again and try once again. sometimes it takes a few attempts
connect a battery charger to the terminals then you dont have to reset anything
The reason you have to reset it is so that’s the slight change in voltage from the old to new battery doesn’t fry sensitive relays
That doesn't reset the learning cycle for the charging system... Read up on how they work it's quite high tech the charging cycles and battery maintenance built into the intelligent charging system

2014 E350c. Getting oddball electrical problems. Totally random. Has started to act like it will start, guages come on, but won't crank.
May do that once, then start, or it may take a random number or tries to start.
The brackets that pull the seatbelts out of the way extended. Driver side retracted, passenger side will not.
Is it potentially a low battery?
Almost certainly, try testing the voltage of the battery before doing anything.
Check my HowTo videos for resetting the Service Menu (for whichever is applicable for your car) to access the voltage on the dash screen.
How can I switch off the w203 alarm when I try to re-connect the negative pol of a new battery? It makes really loud alarm.
Try leaving key in the ignition
I think it is worth mentioning that I've seen a couple of other videos on changing the main battery and some say to first apply a fresh battery or a battery charger/jump starter to the jump terminals near the battery.
This way the car's main computer never loses power and you don't have to worry about all the programming issues. So + terminal slider in front of the main battery gets the positive from your outside power source and then ground - to some metal in the engine compartment.
THEN unhook your main batteries terminals.
I have not done this but I am about to since my battery is near dead.
Has anyone else done this?
I've not seen a video about it, but I have read several comments below other videos saying this is the way to do it and the way the dealer's do it. They are lazy and don't want to do any programming so I think this may be valid.
As long as you swap it over within 30mins you should be fine as it will remember all the settings.
Hi. My 2011 c250. Was repairing a common tail light fault with the negative wire. Everything wad fine. Motor, no problem. But at one point doors and boot open too long. Running the battery down. If there is, actual location would be much appreciated.

I have 2013 E350 4Matic. I got my battery replaced few months ago and this issue started. The front passenger side window button when hold up, the window rolls down, and when hold down, the window rolls up and doesn't go all the way up.
1. I put my keys in all the way clockwise to on position with the engine not running.
2. lift up the switch all the way up to second click and hold it for 30 seconds
3. lift down the switch all the way down to second click and hold it for 30 seconds.
This is not working. Any suggestions?
Disconnect the battery again for 5 mins and try the process once again.
Was the memory and setting reset to default once disconnected?does MB has internal built in battery to back up those?
Depends upon the age of the car, all models from the past 10 years or so should save the settings for around 30mins.

9.3 V is too low for a car battery...your car is going to die on you...I'm thinking either the alternator is not charging or the battery is bad. Have your battery system & charging system checked out asap.

Hi, how do you mean lost it sorry?

@@barbiemoss7189odd. it might have fused. If you connect it up to a diagnostic machine it should tell you.
Yes definitely remove the earth terminal first, and reconnect it last, but that is because if you work in the 12v terminal first and your spanner, socket or whatever should happen to touch any other metalwork there will be a large arc which could explode the battery if there are battery gases in the vicinity. Nothing to do with getting an electrical shock.
Do these battery's need to be programmed in 2014 c250 models
@@Dabbyalien Looking around it seems that MB don't generally need to be programmed for a replacement battery ... but some may, The best thing you can do is find a forum for your model and year and ask there.
a good ru;e of the thumb: if you are taking away thats a negative, negative first. if you are adding, thats a positive, positive first. pretty simple to remember..
@@ST-lb8wp Completely misses the point that some cars are still positive earth and on those it is the positive that has to be removed first. Hence the 'simple' thing of always removing the earth first and replacing it last.
@@paulhunt5873 Are you fn kidding me? By reading all the posts it generally seems people are have having problems...ugh Takes a village... Register the damn battery people! FOXWELL NT510
You won't get a shock by touching the positive terminal. The reason for disconnecting the negative first is to eliminate the risk of shorting the battery positive to the metalwork with the tool.

Hi all. I have a 2015 mercedes e class diesel and it needs a new battery. My 2018 cla 250 battery was failing and prior to me changing battery I put down the passenger and the back passenger window. Now with a new battery I cant seem to get those 2 windows to go back up. Any fix?
Have you tried the window reset fix on the actual window switches themselves? not from the drivers switch bank?
I hear the windows in question click however the windows do not go back up.
@@itschriselement you need to follow the reset process as per the video
How about placing the car on life support so you won't loose the computer memory in the first place, you can place a power supply like a jump starter to the jump points as you remove the terminal and replace the battery. It will act as redundancy and will make the replacement very convenient.
Wow really?!!! Thanks
I saw another post about this too. He said that you should hook up another 12V battery to the jumper + terminal and then a piece of metal in the engine compartment first, and THEN unhook the terminals from the old battery you are replacing. This makes sense to me and this way the car's main computer does not loose power during the entire process and you don't have to worry about all the programming crap.
I've not done this or confirmed it, but I need a new battery ASAP so I guess I'm going to find out.
Sounds good !!!
some cars have auxiliary battery. is it necessary to do this external jumper connection while having the aux battery to prevent loosing data? i am asking because i really don't know the function of the aux battery.
@@yalcinarik I have not been able to confirm this, but I was told that the smaller battery in the trunk, aux battery, if for the stop/start feature of the car. I don't think that is entirely true since as my main battery got low, the stop/start feature shut itself off. When I replaced my main battery last week I just left a charger connected to the jumper terminals near the battery. I don't know if the aux battery will keep everything alive while you change the main unit, but I suspect it will. I had the charger and I just didn't want to hassle with having to go to the dealer if anything went wrong.
Can you please help me? After replacing 2014 ML350 main battery, everything was normal. 2 months down the line, now I am starting to get all kinds of electrical messages that last 24 hrs then onto something new- check engine, lights turn on by themselves, asks to replace key fob battery and the latest my stereo is in continuous rebooting loop!! Is it the wrong main battery? Is it my auxiliary battery? Is it the fuse box? Was there a re-set sequence I should have done? My mechanic isn't able to help
First up, swap the main battery with another just to see if the issues still occur (ask your mechanic to do this in his shop) then if it still doesnt work, remove it and the Aux for 20mins or so, reconnect to see if it fixes it.
If not, you are going to need to get it attached to a diagnostic machine.
@@killerhertzmercedes Will do.. Thank you so much
@@killerhertzmercedes Mechanic still stumped. Screen/radio/console works at speed of 50kmh but reboots or shuts down at higher or lower speeds. This must be a battery issue no?
There was a reset sequence you should have done. Its called registering the battery. The computer doesnt know there is a new battery. So it is still telling the alternator to charge it like an old battery with too much amperage. It needs to know there is a fresh healthy battery so it doesnt charge it as much. Instead its overcharging the new battery, giving it a shorter life. Its a sickened battery now and cant hold a charge, and that is jacking up electronic systems ... the Foxwell NT510 code reader is Mercedes Benz fitted. It has the function to register your battery and a crapload of other stuff. not very expensive either. Doing this will make your battery last very long.
Just watched the video, can someone tell me if you need to code the new battery, I've been told you need it coded to reset the BMS. I'd hoped you could swap the batteries over as per the video

*BACKGROUND
My car ( Mercedes CLK) has a relatively new battery, if I don't use the car for a week or two, the car has problems to start, more time left= more difficult to start.
*PROBLEM
Recently even if I'm driving the car each 3, 4 days, each time it gets weaker and weaker even if I drive for a long distance, I thought that the problem was the alternator but once the car starts the voltage is always over 14V.
* EXAMPLE
Yesterday I checked the voltage and boosted my car : once I connected the booster the voltage was 12.85 once I started the ignition drops to 6.15 V with the booster connected and yes! the car didn't start.
I can use the car but always once I stop the engine, need to be boosted even if I stop the engine for a second last but not least, now when I connect the booster first the positive and then the negative sparks come out ( positive with positive, negative with negative)
Please any help will be greatly appreciate

Be careful people if you accidentaly touch the terminals you will explode due to too high voltage!
I heard that some Benz may have a Battery Management System (BMS) which needs to be set to know that a new battery has been installed. Can this be done without going to the dealer?
I'd like to know the answer to this as well.
After researching a bit more, I see lots of people who exchange their batteries themselves and don't do any reset, and they've never noticed any strange behavior. Furthermore, there are handheld diagnostic devices that are MBZ specific that can be used to DIY reset the BMS after installation of a new battery (they cost about 50 USD). It looks like it's nothing more than going to the correct menus and pushing a few buttons. After recently having my battery tested as well as looking through an old repair order for battery replacement in my GLA 45 AMG, it appears from the dealer notes that all they do is this simple counter reset. Others online have noted the same. It's just a matter of "registering" the new battery with the system so that it can charge a bit more aggressively as the battery ages, from what I understand.
After changing battery i have inoperative light ...
I'm getting the battery light?after replacing the battery?
