I was 17 years old and was at this show. I can't believe I just found this. It was one of the greatest experiences of my life. The energy and passion of AFI during this era and into Black Sails was a sight to behold and most likely, will never be replicated.
I saw AFI in Hollywood, I think The Whiskey, their tour for this album. I was right on the stage (stage dove once). Davey have such a great performance. Wish I could find that video on RUclips. Youth Brigade also that year, Descendants came back, Blanks 77 show in San Diego (someone got stabbed).
You are soooo lucky to have experienced this era of afi! I was 9 at that time and didn't find out about afi until 3 years later but never got to see them live 😞
xbrutalitorx I got pushed up on stage at this show. Sammy and I helped a girl out of the crowd and then he kicked a guy out. As they’re taking the guy outside, cops are rolling by and the guy pulls a knife on Sammy. That dude had the biggest heart. He was the first person to just come up and talk to me at my first hardcore show. Great man.
Life is so fucked up nowadays. People are so constantly distracted and endorphined by social media and bullshit like that that there's no place in society anymore for music and music venues. This was a glorious time. A time when you didn't have fuck else to do so you picked up a guitar and rocked out. And everyone in the community was rocking out with you because they didn't have fuck all to do either. It'd never happen today. Not without some sort of internet blackout. Especially the way people behave today.

Chester Copperpot At first I thought you were talking about Nick 13 lol! But i saw behind him as soon as A Single Second came on.. Yes that is!!! Good eye!
I was just thinking that. He plays great in this set. You can tell how conditioned he is, jumping around constantly while nailing every chord. I'm shocked he didn't cut those guitar strings though with such a tight quartered set. I'd be worried about poking out an eye!
I have another angle from this show. My camera was in the sound booth. Thanks for posting this! Can’t believe they packed this many people into 924. Towards an End had a great set that night. Heck, everyone did. Do you have any other sets from that night?
mark rowlands I have the towards an end set. I’ve actually uploaded that one on my channel I think. If not I can do that soon. I really wish I had Fury’s we from that night. Do you have any other good videos from this era?
That was a sick-ass show! I was 17 years old and Brady from the criminals played guitar for Fury 66 as a stand in. Was also the Tilt reunion show if I am not mistaken. Brings back hella memories.
one of my favorite shows I've been to. went to it with my best friend. memories. AFI after black sails in the sunset and all hallows EP album, their music just went to shit.

Davey was something else this era. Just a total ball of energy.
98 was a great year to be in California for punk shows

Yeah live bands in the city was a blast, Plan 9, random punk bands and everything was all in good fun.
I can't believe this was captured in such a great and crappy way. It was real. I miss those days
That's what happens when you watch a VHS tape 367 million times
I hope the Gilman is still as awesome to kids now as it was to me in the 90s. Fuckn cannery
@@godricfamilyfarm It... probably isn't. If I'm being honest with you. 😆
@@UndercoverNormie Is Gilman even around? I'm not from that side of the country so I'm just curious.
this is the AFI we remember
Jesus I’m old I was 13 when this show went on.
WTF WOW I am in the front row haha. I was 17. What a trip.
Luv u

Saw them in Houston on this tour. In my top 5 shows ever and made me an AFI fan
oh shit it's Nick 13!
I've been lucky enough to see Tiger Army twice. Once in TO and once in Montreal. Both great shows. Hope to see AFI one day
39:09 the rizzler standing next to hunter in the misfits tee
i wish i could have seen them during this era! sadly i was 2
your parents didn't love you
Kinda weird how the dude that would soon replace Mark is standing right behind him.😬
wait where's jade in the video lol
Ps: his mic cuts out but the crowd is so loud, you can’t tell. RIP Sammy.
Sammy was the best. I have a ton of All Bets Off footage from Santa Cruz that I need to upload too.

Chester Copperpot At first I thought you were talking about Nick 13 lol! But i saw behind him as soon as A Single Second came on.. Yes that is!!! Good eye!
Thought it was yer mom with side burns homie!
Good Eye Man!!!! I see it now. Wasn't even looking at the side of the screen. lol
Great video probably one of Marks last shows

Yupp it would be. Cause The Black Sails EP came out 7 months after this point in time. Plus you see Jade standing off in the corner behind Nick 13.
This is my afi
Aw man this is great! Can't believe it's been that long ago. Haha they played on my 17th birthday. Wished I could've seen them then. ❤ AFI
Amazing set.
holy balls the fucking gilman their womb where they were born this is precious treasure footage

xbrutalitorx I have a bunch of Hoods and some others. I have H20 from Bojangles. I think I have some Second Coming too.
Do you still have that other angle?
Can you upload the other angle man? Please

cant stop laughing at the chick in the back with sandles and overalls on.
Brandon Salazar she’s more hardcore than the kids today
contrary to popular belief, you don't need a uniform to go to shows
Why?
man where would we be without AFI bootlegged shows
What's sad is there are a lot of comments from people who had no idea they played small clubs. They had no idea they existed before getting big.
great awesome footage man! I love this so much!
I was born a decade too late fuck
Is this one of Mark's last shows?
It seems so as apparently he left shortly after the release of the A Fire Inside EP which came out like twenty days later
Hi, is there any way I could obtain a copy of this show on DVD?
TheSecretNinja337 rip it then put it on a dvd
brilliant!
one of my favorite shows I've been to. went to it with my best friend. memories.
AFI after black sails in the sunset and all hallows EP album, their music just went to shit.
What song is at 17:30 and what EP does Davey mention?
aurban912 A FIRE INSIDE EP (1998) That song is 3 1/2 the first song off the EP
