I never knew David’s backstory. It’s a lot more interesting than I imagined. Talk about being cross trained.You fit him somewhere in almost any TaskForce . Good Guy to have around.
Wow. As an 8-year infantry mook with a couple MOS's... I'm amazed this guy went through 3 basic trainings, then plowed on like a fuggin' monster! Great dude. We need more of these cats in uniform.
It is crazy to hear Dave's backstory. I went to DLI in the early 90's and my squad leader was an 18B SSG from 10th Group and we had a Navy Seal Lieutenant in my class, as well as a Marine Force Recon SSGT. As a PFC straight out of basic training it was pretty amazing.
@Mark Smith Well originally when I was at DLI I was in the National Guard and went to 97E interrogator school after finishing my language. My squad leader was on me all the time, to go active duty, but make them guarantee airborne and the 82nd and then once I made SGT go to SFAS and he would get me on his team. Granted that is a pretty big oversimplification of the process, but hell I didn't know any better, and the Seal O3 was trying to get me to become a Seal. I don't think it really had anything to do with me, as much as competition between the two Special Forces guys. I did end up going active duty, and my plan was to do what my squad leader suggested, but as things seem to happen at DLI, I ended up meeting someone and getting married. She was an active duty Arabic linguist 98G voice interceptor who had orders to Ft Meade, so that ended my aspirations of being a bad ass. Instead since the Army didn't need German interrogators in 1994, and I didn't want to go to DLI for over a year after she would have already been gone, I became a 96B generic intel analyst, and my legacy as a pogue was cemented. I am still married so I guess it all works out. I did have one more very fleeting thought of possible bad assery, when for whatever reason I came down on a list to go to a Delta recruiting meeting when I was at Ft Hood, and damn did they make it look and sound cool.....which it is I am sure, but again I had two young kids, and wasn't in anywhere near good enough shape to even think about trying out. I will say though that first squad leader SSG Eric Weiner, made a lasting impression on me of what a leader should do, and how you always take care of the people under you, it was a really cool experience for someone fresh out of basic training with almost no knowledge of the military.

Ryan, just listened to your interview on The Team House. Although I give those two goobers a tough time, they did a good job, and your episode was phenomenal. It was great to hear YOUR story.
To answer your question about what it was like for us on the ground when you guys came on station it was essentially “That’s right asshole, my big brother is here and he’s about you fuck you up!” …while we cheered like children. Don’t ever think that you contributed less than someone on the ground. Dudes like you are the reason a lot of us made it home. Thank you for sharing your story with us, and for sharing so many stories that we would not otherwise have heard. It’s more than just entertainment. Hearing other people in the community, whether Regiment, CAG, Blue, or whoever express the same things that you’re feeling makes you feel a little more normal. Thanks again.

Sgt. Parke. Your comment about the dumbest thing you've done was trust the Recruiter and wing it to get to Battalion.
I will second that emotion or reality. I enlisted basically with the same mindset that my Recruiter instilled. So I go in on an 11xray flip a coin contract at 17 on DEP one week after High School graduation I was in Ft. Benning (Hooahh, Sand Hill, House of Pain!!) Summer 1996. Fast forward it was fucking 2 years before I get to The Regiment!!! And, the US Army in all of its wisdom, I had already been to Ranger School, had my EIB on a Div. Level LRS team BEFORE I got to The Regiment (so that made me an 'Import') and another little bit before I got to were I originally enlisted to be. Anyways, I feel your pain and know of what you speak.

Just a note on the "we all taste the same thing." We don't, actually, because our brains are all a little different. A good example of that is how some people had noticeably altered taste/smell secondary to the zombie illness. Smoking and other environmental factors can affect it, in addition to our brains just being a little bit different (I have one son who can taste individual ingredients in curry which I cannot, and another who plays music by ear because he hears more than I do). We all are relatively similar but not exact, so people experiencing the exact same thing as us based on nature and nurture actually do experience it differently than we do.

Dave, if you find that Vietnam recon lessons learned manual you could literally publish that as a book and tons of people would buy it and read it. People love that stuff, and not just former military guys.

Interesting that he had to go through Navy and Army Boot Camps after going through Marine Recruit Training? I was in the Marine Corps from 92-2012 and on Recruiting Duty from 98-2001. Ive never seen a Marine have to go through any other Service's Boot Camp. And Ive seen a ton of Marines do inter-service transfers or get out of the Corps and go into the Army, Natl Guard, and Navy. On another note Ive never seen a prior service Marine be able to get into the Coast Guard or Air Force.. LOL. I know its been done but its rare.
I never even thought of that.. you need to get an RRD guy from Battalion on here... Those dudes were doing some off the charts shit during Iraq and Afghanistan..RLTW 3/75

Mr. Parke, can you go into detail about b the differences of the bootcamps? What makes usmc bootcamp harder than the rest? Or why do people have that belief?
USMC boot camp is much more regimented than the others. You'll get smoked for moving your eyes or shrugging your shoulders when standing in formation. They also do a ton of drill and ceremony which doesn't sound hard but it's earned the parade field the nickname of "the grinder".

Mr. Parke and I have much in common. I practiced playing 'ninja" as a kid and had my share of fights. A traffic vs. Big Wheel accident gave me a similar physically traumatic experience. I am highly skilled in Spanish as opposed to arabic. I have an Arabic speaking friend today..🤔 who knows.. I spent 12 years active Army and scored better the 2nd go 'round on the ASVAB. I was qualified for anything. I had an interesting non SF path that put me in contact with all sorts. David and I might have crossed pathes at Fort Lewis in '90-91
Could someone clarify for me, if possible--- Dave indicates that he served in JSOC, yet didn't complete Unit/CAG selection/OTC. I'm aware there are other units within USASOC that exists under the JSOC umbrella (ISA/TFO), but that doesn't sound like the case either. What ranger attaché serves directly within JSOC? Thanks. ^_^
I was a civilian at the time. Just a contractor attached to JSOC for support work.

I wish I would have joined the military after highschool … I’m only 26 right now BUT I now have a record with a felony and a strike. For a while now I’ve been thinking how I wish I would have joined. I used to love going to shooting ranges with one of my uncles and now I can’t even purchase any fire arms.. and what sucks is the felony I got, I didn’t even do anything. Couldn’t afford a lawyer… public pretender wasn’t helping for shit she just kept telling me to sign right away and get it over with.. I got 3 years paper and a strike with only a couple days in jail but I told her we need to get the footage from around that area it happened and she said they saw it already and it doesn’t matter I’m either signing for 3 years paper or fighting for how much prison time I do.. such bullshit

Pre-interview and come up with a better story line to experience the scenario’s in a better way.
You should watch some more of his shows. I don't know how he does it but he gets the biggest pipe hitters out their onto his podcast. Generally does a phenomenal job of getting these guys to open up and get into some great detail of what they've done. Rangers lead the way. 3/75.
