Nice review, Ernie. You weren't terribly wordy, but you did show setup of grill onto the gas stove twice. But hey, we all bungle things now and again. As a wise person said, "if you don't mess up, then you're not doing anything."
Hello Ernie. What a nice looking cooktop. Ingenious underside. They were really thinking this one out. Great find. Great video. I prefer when you actually cook something as opposed to just boiling water.
Alot of the seasoning on the pan is the user. If you leave the protein on long enough it will release. Thus, you feel the pan works. And if it does not release, then you tried to turn your food/protein to early. It will stick. Classic move i have made= lay the steak down and decide I want it over here, Well it will stick in the first few minutes.
The Japanese tend to eat their food as they cook it, not wait until all the food is cooked. I have the Goababu Carry-bo alcohol stove/windshield combo...excellent piece of gear. This grill plate would come in handy for sure. Thanks.
Even in hot weather you can bring steak. Freeze it and it will be fine as it thaws slowly in your pack. Eat it the first night or for breakfast the next day. That grill is a nice glamping accessory.
I have this one and the newer one and used them a lot. Increase the heat slowly, and don't rush your cooking I use mine a lot and they still look pretty new
I agree with others that is on the expensive side of things. I found the version by FireMaple for half the price…$23. Great find, made me want one instantly.
I have it, and use it with my Optimus 8R. yeah, that´s not light weight but the big steak, i´m having with me, isn´t either. You´re out on an adventure, it was a great day, the sun is going down, you get out your stove, the plate and a steak , formaly meant to feed a lion. You give this steak a really big kiss of this plate, little salt and a peace of butter. A sip of your beer, the steak, the sinking sun,...... Ooouuu, that´s great.
looks like a really good grill plate, really well made, not too heavy and works with a few stove types and i don't think it's too pricey either so yeah this is a good'en
I bring an iron grill plate into the woods all the time (mainly strapped to my mountain bike) it's only one of those cheap ones that fits into a small trangia mess tin but for £6-7 it's a awesome bit of kit. I'll cooke rice or noodles in my mess tin and fry up my meat and veg on the grill plate. I'm thinking about carving a better mess tin/nalgene holder for my bike though as the nalgene bottle cage doesn't hold my mess tin good enough for rough trails
Now he's saying it's cast iron. Ernie I've been a loyal fan for years and trust your opion to buy my stoves. You did say aluminum on your video. Watched it twice, so Will be ordering soon THANKS, YOUR FRIEND. ...... PHILIP
I have the Fire Maple Sunflower version and this one. The bottom of the fire maple isn’t slotted like this one. It’s made specifically for the Sunflower camp stove / heater. This one is way more adaptable for different stoves. I believe Winnerwell makes one for their new oil lantern stove as well. So far I’ve cooked spam on a isobutane stove and steak on the oil lantern. It has done well on both.
These cast grills are awesome I been wanting one forever they are a little pricy, but it is awesome, so I'll probably end up getting one . Great video review of the grill plate
I like it. I own the flat titanium with the slotted bottom always have to use foil if I'm over a stove. This solved that. Nothing cheap these days. I think 42 bucks is in line with the times. Thanks from a loyal sub.
Japan has a lot of gadgets for camping. Everytime I go to the Homec, I seem to leave with some new gear along with the screws I need.I'm going to guess they use this for yakiniku, fish or a shabu shabu. I rarely see any locals slap a whole steak on a grill.
I assume with it not being anodized aluminum you would want to keep this away from a wood fire, or if you do use it, you really want to make sure the fire is died down to coals
Fire Box stoves has new cast iron, rectangular ( 6"x8") skillets that are similar, but much deeper, higher grill bars and comes with removable pan lifter for similar price. Also have a companion deep pan, that can be used as a casserole or dutch oven.
Love everything Firebox puts out, such good quality unfortunately I have osteoarthritis and I can’t lift cast iron but Temu has something very similar to this grill, is very light weight nonstick with Maifan (like granite ware) minus the bottom grooves for the different stoves and is only $12, I got it plus the separate griddle =$24, about the same size as this, I have cooked plenty on both including eggs on the griddle and nothing sticks. I’m happy with them.
Lovely first impression. I eat alot of meat but I prefer my stanley frying pan, does the same thing except that it's not coated and I need to add some fat to cook on. It is an intresting option for sure. Some people will prefer it over a pan. Curious to see how it holds up, that's the other thing about stanley, the stainless steel is heavy but though. Really looking forward to find out how it performed. Cheers 💖💖💖
I have a one shot "classic" espresso pot I tried to use on an alcohol stove but it was too hot and boiled too fast. I found a cookie size cast iron skillet that I use between the flame and the pot, which seems to work better. This plates might be a lighter weight alternative.
I have this one. The bottom of it isn’t slotted like this one. It’s made specifically for the Sunflower camp stove / heater. I also have this one and prefer the slots making it more versatile.
Great idea, just purchased the rounded edged one and the DZRVZD mestin/lunchbox cook set kit that the grill nests with, should work well on the Nano or the Esbit.
If you get a chance, maybe take a look at the Snow Peak - Pack & Carry(in your vehicle.) portable fire pits? They come in 4 sizes with the Large being the best seller and they're VERY popular with camping enthusiast throughout the world.
I'm going to have to hire a team of Marines or a pair of oxen...I have the Saturn stove and 2 cast iron pans..plus the rest of the "stuff" does it fit firebox nano or regular?
Excellent review Ernie,,,, I’ve picked up several of this type of plate from Amazon Japan 🇯🇵,,,, Each one is unique and worth having. But Ernie,,,, I surely thought by now You would have had a Review on Steve’s (Firebox 🔥) new cast iron cookware. I did buy a complete set,,, but when iam outdoors cooking for myself,,, I only bring the shallow pan,,, either side works,,👍👍👍. Will You be doing a review on the New Firebox Cast Iron Cookware,,??? Joshua
Would love to have this griddle if it did not have that coating. It becomes toxic if over heated and gives off toxic fumes. That griddle looks fantastic otherwise. I would prefer to have coated it myself. You can cure aluminum just like you cure cast iron.
You know what's a lot lighter and cheaper than this? A tinfoil pan and a little bit of cooking oil. Or just fry it on the bottom of your cooking pot. There is no real advantage to a grill over what you likely are already carrying
No need to be rude, either it's something you're interested in, or it's not. Ernie uses his own time to find things that may be of interest to some people. Not everyone appreciates that it's his own time spent doing this.
@jasonmonks3136 I agree, except Ernie isn't doing this as charity. He's monetizing it. Which I have no problem with. I appreciate him. Just remember in future, that even bad or nasty comments or dislikes add to channels algorithm.
It's perfect for cooking wild game out on the trail. Fish too

I bet that will fit on the Firebox Nano pretty good!
Hello Ernie. What a nice looking cooktop. Ingenious underside. They were really thinking this one out. Great find. Great video. I prefer when you actually cook something as opposed to just boiling water.
Neat and all even for how tiny it is but nothing beats a cast iron skillet.
Thanks Ernie, I really liked the look of the grill plate. Just keep doing what you do, i love the way you do your videos.
ATB.
J.M. from England.
Listing says fluorine based coating so its not really a seasoning just a chemical coating similar to non stick pans.

I'd actually get this! Thanks for the video, Earnie!
Grilling filets on a fishing trip. Or fishing as a supplement on a week long hike perhaps.

The Firebox pans are pretty light. Multi use. Nonstick. And the host has your patch on his cook kit bag.
stealth campers will love this

Nice piece of gear!!!

I’d like to see this used with a steak on an Esbit.

Looks like a nice product. The slots on the bottom are well thought out.
I bought the fire maple style, and I think that design is better.

That looks like a good piece. 👍 Thank you for your videos.
Will it fit a Svea 123R, or MSR pocket rocket?
Thanks for the review ... I'm going to have to give it a try ...
Ernie, great vids. Will this work with the Firebox stoves? Thank you.
Nice. Will it fit on the firebox nano
HA! I've had this on my Amazon watchlist for years. Appreciate the video. It just seems so expensive for what it is. 😂
Temu has similar one for $12, also a separate griddle.
Unrelated to this video but why are all heat exchanger cook pots not in stainless steel? I am not a fan of aluminum. I would be ok with added weight.
If you get a chance, maybe take a look at the Snow Peak - Pack & Carry(in your vehicle.) portable fire pits? They come in 4 sizes with the Large being the best seller and they're VERY popular with camping enthusiast throughout the world.
Looks really good. Will it clean easily?
Hi Earnie - Why would you use this instead of your pan like on the Trangia?
I'm going to have to hire a team of Marines or a pair of oxen...I have the Saturn stove and 2 cast iron pans..plus the rest of the "stuff" does it fit firebox nano or regular?
How does it look on the 5” firebox?
Will the x pattern fit the firebox nano
Grilled salmon would be good!!
Could you use Lodge cast iron seasoning spray to help with the nonstick?
Good review, thanks for sharing YAH bless !
Can you check to see if it fits the Firebox G2?

Is that coating toxic like teflon and other non stick coatings?
The webpage says fluorine based coating so I would look into it
Ya so it's a Teflon pan they say fluorine based I'm sure because Teflon is a brand name
@@gulag_inmate69I just watched the film, Dark Waters last night. Based on true events surrounding DuPont and Teflon. Highly recommend watching it!
Aluminum?
Cast iron
@@awattDid you even watch the video? lol
He said it was aluminum!

Shush. Don't tell him.
Limited use, can’t fry an egg for instance.
It will definitely work with a Firebox Nano
You know what's a lot lighter and cheaper than this?
A tinfoil pan and a little bit of cooking oil. Or just fry it on the bottom of your cooking pot.
There is no real advantage to a grill over what you likely are already carrying
I was to busy trying to imagine the AMAZING SMELL of that steak
Typical Japanese design. Simple esthetic, functional and well made. Well worth the money but i don't have a need for it.
Poisonous chemicals on the grill.
Too bad because it is nice grill otherwise. It has teflon in it.
utter bollocks
that's your priority when back packing?
