Yes, Sting said he was always surprised that so many people used this as their wedding song thinking it was a love song when it is about obsession and control over someone

@Iris E Actually it's not about a stalker at all, it's about a spiritual relationship. they didn't have 24/7 surveillance back then like they do now. the only one that could keep tabs on your 24/7 was the higher power. This song had one of the longest runs at #1 (8 weeks) for the entire decade of the 80's. I think many people heard it as more of a love song when it first came out but it is obviously a song about obsession / possession and a bit creepy. But it is so melodic and catchy (and it has that cool video!) that it cannot be denied as one of the best songs of the decade.
As your on your 80's journey i think you should not miss out on reacting to Madness, they are one of those fun bands that had a lot of hits in the early 80's and are still touring up to this day. Some great Madness tracks are - "House of Fun" - "It must be Love" - "One Step Beyond" - "Gray Day" - "Tomorrow's just another day" - "Wings of a Dove" - " Our House" - "Driving in my Car" and "Baggy Trousers". He insists it is about the obsession with a lost lover, and the jealousy and surveillance that follow. "One couple told me 'Oh we love that song; it was the main song played at our wedding!' I thought, 'Well, good luck.'"" - Wikipedia entry on the song.
Yeah, it's absolutely a stalker song
@Iris E Actually it's not about a stalker at all, it's about a spiritual relationship. they didn't have 24/7 surveillance back then like they do now. the only one that could keep tabs on your 24/7 was the higher power. Also, do you really think they'd have allowed such lyrics back then, if it was so blatant about breaking the law? Also, do you really think Sting and the boys are such amateur musicians to not have had a deeper meaning? It's about a spiritual relationship, not a physical one. Just in today's cancel culture, that wouldn't be tolerated in MSM music industry now would it?
One of the most unique voices in pop music!
The most played song in Radio Stations worldwide....
The percentage per day for this song is over 2000$. Whether they played from Police or Puff Daddy. Everytime Sting gets the cash.....😉✌
Walking on the moon - the police 🙏🙏🙏
People think this is a romantic song BUT its about stalking!!! Every breath you take I'll be WATCHING YOU..
2:12 - yes! Grats on assessing that right! This song is, and always *_was,_* about an over-possessive stalker type. But it's funny...even though I know that, it's still one of my most favorite comforting songs that takes me back to the '80's. ^_^
" ROXANNE " .. is awesome by the Police
Such a great song ... probably one of the greatest ever! Check out Sting - Englishman in New York.
Think Biggy ! 😉😁✌️🇬🇧👍🙏
It's a really sinister song but beautifully written.
It's not sinister at all, you obviously have no idea what it's really about.
@@metoo7557 well Sting disagrees with you.
@@metoo7557 When asked why he appears angry in the music video, Sting told BBC Radio 2, "I think the song is very, very sinister and ugly and people have actually misinterpreted it as being a gentle little love song, when it's quite the opposite."
Here's a link to audio clips of the interview www.bbc.co.uk/radio2/soldonsong/songlibrary/indepth/everybreathyoutake.shtml
The Police singer went on to be lead singer of Sting his group love this song
Hey friend, Sting is the lead singer, 'Sting' is not a band name.
Listen to Mama-Genesis
Possibly familiar to you as Puff Daddy (P Diddy) sampled it for 'I'll Be Missing You'
Yes,the song is about stalking.🤣 But I don't think of that when I hear this song. This song reminds me of my father that passed away when I was 20 years old. Never got to get to know him too well. Now I think he watches every move I make being a man on this earth.🙏
It does sound ‘stalkerish’ now, but back then - just a broken-hearted love song....
It was intended as a stalker song, but a ton of people didn't catch on.
Not according to Sting....he said it was a song about obsession and control!!! 😉😉
Well, it is about an ex, so, I suppose that it could be seen as someone who wants to control what his ex does, because he thinks she belongs to him.
J , Puff Dady does a song for Biggy Smalls using the same tune which was also a big hit. You also need to hear that song. Bigger Small was a big time rapper in New York that was gunned down and killed. He and Puff Daddy were very close friends.
And the Sun will shine - Bee Gees
Please react
I'm from Brazil
R.E.M.'s "The One I Love" is similar in that it's NOT a love song!
Every time I hear this i think of the movie "The Replacements"
My other forever fav.
The stalker song! 😳
Love it! 💗
It's weird how the 80s had so many stalker songs. I was actually making a list of them because it was so strange.
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
Now do a little solo Sting. It’s probably familiar because it was a giant hit in 1983, #1 for two months.
May seem familiar because of Puff Daddy [feat. Faith Evans & 112] - I'll Be Missing You
There was a point when Sting was making over $2000 a day from this song from the 80's due to so many using it for remixes, commercials, etc.
More Police!!! Song is kinda scary, nobody needs that kind of reality.
The Police is my favorite band. My favorite song by them and my favorite song of all time is "King of Pain". I'd of course highly recommend it.
The police did for the 80s what the Beatles did for the sixties! Please try synchronicity 2
Sting and the Police are fabulous. But, this is song is also known as "The Stalker Song". I believe the NFL used it for a defensive play montage at one point, if I remember correctly.
Doesn't stop me from liking the song, though.
P Diddy used the music when he created I'll Be Missing You.
You can not react to some of the British great's of the 80's and miss out Madness as they are such a great band.
Sting the singer is the same guy who sang..l want my MTV with Dire Straits. FYI
Great reaction Jay I would love to see you up on your feet bet you can really move Thanks Jay
