I´ve seen lots of videos in the last 4 days because I´m traveling to NY on december, and this is, by far, the best video I´ve watched. Thanks for going straight to the point with every topic. ❤
Met the love of my life online. She's from the UK. We'll be meeting in NYC for the first time in person, in April of 2020. Will also be our first trip to NYC. After almost 2 years of saving my money. Will be bringing my mom too, as she has always wanted to visit NYC. This video has been helpful in my preparation and I thank you for that :)
That's a beautiful story and I'm glad I can somehow help. I just want to give an advice: pay attention to cultural differences. If she's from the UK meaning that she belongs to a British culture, she would probably find very annoying and disappointing if when she can finally meet you in person you come accompanied with another person, especially if that's your mother. I also belong to the Western European culture and I can assure you that I would be very pissed if a man came to meet me with his mother. If she just lives in the UK and she's from a similar culture to yours instead, just ignore what I said. :) I wish you good luck and all the best!
@@WhatashameMaryJane I appreciate the concern :) However, she is completely fine with the idea and actually excited to not only meet me, but my mother. I wouldn't just bring my mom without my girlfriends consent, as that would be kind of rude to put her in that position.

Kamran Ali Hello Ali, thanks for your comment. I gave the price based on the costs I have in my app’s history. I should have maybe mentioned that at night the price increases a little bit. But this is the average price I paid in all the rides I’ve taken. Of course I pay attention to when I decide to call a car: if the journey is very long I opt for the subway even if I’m very tired. The routes I use for a car service are the same length I showed on the maps in the video and I checked the price on the apps before saying it in the video.
Hey Mary Jane! I'm planning to go to NYC on September and found this video very useful. However, I still have few questions: 1. Are there other recommendations for food (other than bagels and pizza) for less than 5$? 2. Did you prepack food (bought from the supermarket) like sandwich/salad? Love your video! Warm greetings from Indonesia
Hey Ranita! Great time to travel to NYC ;) 1. Absolutely: Chinatown is the paradise of cheap meals, you can find meals for 1 or 2 dollars, crazy... Hot dogs at the street carts (you can see them everywhere especially in Midtown) are a good snack for $2. Chinese dumplings are usually 3.50-4 per portion and you can google on maps “Chinese dumplings” they are all over the place. I can suggest a good and cheap Japanese grocery store/deli that’s called Sunrise Mart, I always go to the one near 42nd for lunch when I spend the day at the NY Public Library, it’s really good. Then a typical thing for locals in New York (which I’m not a fan of personally) are the deli sandwiches. Deli or bodegas are corner shops that have a deli section and they make you sandwiches on the go for $4 to 7 usually or hot meals like chicken and rice. Good neapolitaner pizza pies you can find at Kesté Pizza e Vino in the West Village, each pie is only $5 and very good. If you want to try the typical fast food American hamburger I can suggest a local newyorker chain that is Shake Shack: the burger is maybe more around $6, but it’s worth trying. It’s fast food but way better that McDonalds or Burger King. 2. I personally never buy those kind of prepackaged food, but if you’re looking for ready to eat salads I’ve heard that at a grocery store called Trader Joe’s they have good choice and about other kind of prepackaged foods I suggest you that Japanese Sunrise Mart, I believe they have 4 different locations in Manhattan.

I’m watching a 2018 documentary called the lost village and it’s showing how expensive it is there. So since I haven’t gone to NYC since 2001, I would really want to visit. But most of my friends that used to live there have moved away, so I would need to get a hotel. I used to stay at the YMCA bc it was cheap. I even thought of just roughing it and just not really sleeping and just travel with a small bag. If they have a 24 fitness, I have a membership that’s good at all their location and I can shower and change clothes. Hey. I was homeless once for 3-1/2 years and of I could survive that, I should be able to survive for a week. Anyway, it’s just a thought now but I don’t wanna pay like $200. a noght at a hotel like I have done in 2001.

Well, everyone who is not native has to start learning a language from scratch so my answer has to be no, my English has definitely not always been so good. :)
good advice, but how about the internet in the USA? how much does it cost or does most places have wifi? can't imagine traveling there without internet. Can you get a sim with internet? Going to USA for a week, need to get some knowledge in.
Hi there. It depends on where in the US you go. In New York honestly every single place has free wifi, you probably wouldn't even need to get a phone plan for internet. In smaller towns you better get a sim card. I always buy a monthly prepaid plan when I go there (minimum $40 only GB, minimum 60 with voice calls and sms, in USA you pay also for receiving), but in every airport I've seen small booths where they sell tourist sim cards. If you don't find it there, when you get to the city find a T-Mobile shop, it's the cheapest phone company among the 2-3 most famous ones.

If you have an unlimited rides ticket (like the weekly ticket), no. You either need to change station or wait a certain amount of time that I now don't remember. I think it's 15-20 minutes.
Yes if you buy single trips. If you buy any of the unlimited tickets (like the weekly one) you have to wait at least 18 minutes (so I've heard) in order to swipe the card again in the same station, or you can swipe it again at any other station. Is it clear enough?

Thanks so much Mary Jane you're a sweetheart. I'm planning a visit in Jan or Feb 2020 as it's cheaper, if you know of a good (cheap) hotel please share.💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙
@@missnarinder May I ask you why you want to stay in a hotel? As I mentioned in the video in NY they are particularly expensive, and don't expect to get what you pay for: rooms are commonly tiny and there's no much more than that.
@@WhatashameMaryJane Security mainly. Female travelling alone etc. Plus I'm 45 years old, surf couching is for young people not oldies like me! It doesn't have to a hotel, a good B&B is fine, or a hostel with a singular room with non shared bathroom, as long as it's clean and warm I'm cool. You think I'm silly?
m i s s n i n i I absolutely don’t think you’re silly. Prioritizing comfort and safety over adventure and excitement is absolutely reasonable. Just please don’t say that Couchsurfing is for young people, because from the inside of the platform I can tell you that this is a false stereotype (infact I even made a video about the topic). Have you ever tried Airbnb? If you still have to register I can send you a registration link that will give you a nice discount.
Thank you!!! Great information!!! We really want to visit NY and we were thinking maybe in October. Can you tell us which is the best location for a hotel- Airbnb? Value for money and safe.
October is a great choice to visit NYC! Location depends on what you want to prioritize...
This video is very helpful.
On a $10/day budget you'd better buy nip bottles from the liquor store and stay away from happy hour. Central Park Summerstage offers free concerts all summer.
Never been to Central Park Summerstage, I'm checking out their program right now. great tip thanks!
Wheres the tip of just putting whiskey in an arizona bottle and walking around or talking the train with it
Ahahah love this one!!
Thankyou for the info

It was hard to focus on your tips since you're so beautiful, but actually you made it, thank you!
Ahah thanks Fabio
Did you always speak English that well? Sounds great with the lovely accent.
Well, everyone who is not native has to start learning a language from scratch so my answer has to be no, my English has definitely not always been so good. :)
Excellent video!
Thanks.
Great video! Thanks for the tips!!!
You're welcome!
Thank you so much it's really nice & organised video
seza toto Thank you so much, I hope you found it useful
Hopefully you never become in danger and try dialing 7 11. 😊
good advice, but how about the internet in the USA? how much does it cost or does most places have wifi? can't imagine traveling there without internet.
@@WhatashameMaryJane Appreciate the time you took to respond, yeah i'm visiting New York for a week, mainly for health, but i'll have plenty of free time daily so i figured i might asw try and look into some beautiful places and cheap food :D
@@rauliuxaa From the comments I get I realised that I should make more videos about the places that I visit in NYC cause I see that you guys look for that kind of videos. Am I right? About the cheap food, I have two videos coming out on the topic ;)
For the touristic sim card I'm 100% sure it's available in the US, just google it if you want to prepare yourself.
@@WhatashameMaryJane yeah that would be cool! :)
Great 👍 Thank you 🎉
This channel is awesome!
Great video. Very informative!
Thanks!
Going in a couple of winks. Awesome video. Thank you.
Have a great trip Gabriela! Ask if you need any tip, I'm actually in NYC right now too.
So helpful! Thank you very much!
You're welcome Anna!
Great video! Thank You!
We all need a girl like her she a is a keeper💙💙💙
looking forward to check out the 7/11 memorial
Great value packed video :) I think it was 9.11 not 7eleven ;)
Ole Dragland Ouch! 🙊🙊🙊
@@WhatashameMaryJane Again, really loved the video ;)
Ole Dragland Thank you very much Ole 🙏 (where are you from? Ole is a Norwegian name right?)
@@WhatashameMaryJane You're right, good guess :p And by your accent I assumed you must be from Russia?
@@omdthe9382 It's a very peculiar name, I've heard it only in Germany but I know it's from Norway or Denmark. Eh eh I'm definitely not from Russia. I'm 100% Italian, from a region in the very North East called Friuli.
Just a question for the future: is booking an apartment a good choice for NY?
What do you mean? An apartment rather a room?
@@WhatashameMaryJane I mean for a family, is an apartment a good choice rather than a room in hotel or hostel?
@@saraghiraldo5322 For a family I'd say yes, an apartment might be the best option.
Thanks so much !!
This was a big help thanks 👍
Glad it helped
can your friend use your metro card after you use it?
If you have an unlimited rides ticket (like the weekly ticket), no. You either need to change station or wait a certain amount of time that I now don't remember. I think it's 15-20 minutes.
City Pass. Hell Yes.Thanks
Bellissimo video molto istruttivo. Grazie!📽🥇👏
Very helpful video. Thanks!
You're welcome :)
Can we use one metro card for more than one person?
Yes if you buy single trips. If you buy any of the unlimited tickets (like the weekly one) you have to wait at least 18 minutes (so I've heard) in order to swipe the card again in the same station, or you can swipe it again at any other station. Is it clear enough?
New York City does have the best Subway System in the world.
😳
Thanks for this very informative video ! I am still thinking about visiting NYC for the first time.
Merci 😊
My pleasure :)
Very good thanks
Found this very useful thank you
You're welcome, thanks for the nice comment.
“The memorial and museum of 7/11” 😅😂
Is there any chance we can also join you for your next trip ma'am..??
Awkward!
one important thing is to remember that if you are planning on visitng 2020-2021 beware of covid-19!
Where are you from
Thanks for the info ! Nice video ! At 14:56 I guess you wanted to say 9/11 no ? 😂
Yes, that was a bad mistake 🙄
@@WhatashameMaryJane The Museum of 711...now that's a museum I want to see lol
I found this video very useful!
I definitely had to rewind, I’m hard of hearing and had to make sure I heard 7/11.
Lol sorry, foreigner's mistake 😅
It’s okay I thought it was pretty cute. You are very beautiful by the way!
I’m going to New York and staying in a hotel right by the World Trade Center. And then the stuff that we want to do like the Statue of Liberty, Empire State building, American history natural museum or whatever, and Central Park. With gas and everything included we figured about $2600. Not quite $10 a day and most of the things on our list are free I only mentioned the ones that cost money. And there’s no way I’m staying in a hostile or sleeping on some strange dudes couch
Seems like a reasonable price for what you want to do. 🙂 I wish you a great trip!
Si ma il problema con il mangiare è che se vuoi mangiare sano, non puoi, sei obbligato a mangiare pizza e hamburger, per qualche giorno ok, ma poi come fai 😅?
Wait... there's a 7-11 Museum? I want to see the History of the Big Gulp..... (I know you misspoke just kidding)
where do you live mary ?
