I've been binge watching diy beauty product videos for the past 2 days and you have the most detailed videos I've seen. Thank you so much for sharing and keep the videos coming they are a great help!
Kevin, this video like many of your others was absolutely awesome. As I've commented before, what I appreciate most about your presentations is the amount of research based detail you include in order to flesh out the reasoning behind your use of specific ingredients. Again, great job. Keep up the good work because it's much appreciated.
Love your videos and when you pop into the camera's view. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and recipes it's great to be able to use them and adapt them. Hope you had a great Thanksgiving.
Hi Kevin, You are by far the best with the soap making and art videos. You are very talented and you present the information in such a manner that I can listen, watch, and really grasp the art techniques and recipes easily! Thanks a million!!!!! 😀👍🏻
Nice sugar scrub Kevin! Thank you so much for explaining why it's called an emulsified sugar scrub. I kept looking at all these recipes without water and couldn't see why both ewax and preservatives were being used. Excellent presentation!
Excellent video! A word you could try next time. I know its tempting to jump ahead. Even the warm wax will eat your sugar. If you want a more scrub consistency, wait for the temp to be below 80F. And I do 2 parts sugar to liquid ratio, which is what I think you ended up at anyway. Love that color and will have to try that sent! Tea is one of my favorite things!
Yet another fabulous video, ThanQ. Love how you tell us about your own research into scare mongering stories and how we can check it out for ourselves. We all need knowledge that is true before making/marketing cosmetic products. You put so much work into your videos I want to let you know how much it is appreciated.
Thank you for sharing this recipe, your properly well detailed video with thorough explanations. I'm definitely going to try this recipe on a smaller scale lol. Thank you thank you thank you 😊
Kevin I just love your videos. You really are awesome at explaining every detail. I have used Phenoip in goat milk lotion. It is hard to get some to understand the research behind it being an ok choice. I have some who just freak out which is fine. But I am like you must be preserved. Thanks for the details. Love this scrub..
And once again...Another wonderful video. Great timing...I had purchased many items to make sugar scrubs...but have been crazy busy...but after seeing your video...I need to put those ingredients I purchased to use. And yes...wonderful gifts! Thanks for sharing such great info on all your products...I too LOVE Mad Oils! ~~ Karen
I wish I could give you 2 thumbs up! I have watched many, many you tube videos and you are by far the best educator I have encountered and not just this video. the effort you make to educate people is very generous of you. God bless your very generous heart. thank you. would recommend your videos to anyone who ventures your way
Wow Kevin this recipe sounds amazing! I think I may give it a try. My scrubs sell decently well. I dont use any silicones I have a lot of picky customers but this just sounds awesome! You dont have any problems with your sugar melting adding it while the oils/butters are so warm? I was thinking about it because you said you needed to add more sugar. I put mine in the freezer until it cools and I whisk it, making it into a pudding like consistency and then I add my sugar last.
+Amy Ellingsworth This turned out the perfect consistency (for me)...it's like very moist sand. If you put it on a slotted spoon it doesn't run through but you could easily push it through the slots...so firm-ish :)
Thanks you so much for sharing your knowledge and experience ... This video contains helpful and valuable information .... Just I don't know silky Ewax ... I don't have that produces available...I have to make myself.... Can you guide me?? Thanks you ☺️🙏
i love the little wooden spoon in your still shots. would you be willing to share your supplier, I am making sugar scrubs for Christmas and would like to include the spoon dispenser with the scrubs. Thank you
+Laura Higgins Sorry...it was a handmade item sold by a store that specializes in Pennsylvania handcrafted items...I don't know who the original creators was (it's actually a honey dipper)
Very informative video. Excellent educational tutorial. I'm looking for body butter videos that you've done and didn't see any . Have you done any? Do you know of any ingredients that you can add to body butters that makes them more silky and less greasy?
I don't remember the temps when I mixed things, but sugar doesn't dissolve in oil (because oil is non-polar), or dissolves only very minimally depending on the oil.
Hey Kevin! Always love your video's!! One quick question...with the addition of more sugar, shouldn there be an adjustment for more preservative? You already had all your liquids prepared before the addition of the extra sugar, didn't know if the recipe was modified for the addition. Thanks for your help and info...Hugs from Texas!! : )
Good point! I believe the preservative I used has a range so it may have still been fine just at the lower end of the range...I'd have to look at the recipe again. But since I wasn't selling this and only using it for personal use for myself and some friends not a huge deal for me. If you are considering selling something like this lab preservative testing is probably the way to go to ensure your preservative is effective.
Hey Kevin! Yeah, makes sense... I will check the range of the preservative (percentage wise) based off the recipe just to make sure. Great recipe and beautiful product! Thanks so much...Hugs from Texas!! xx : )
You do already have a preservative for the water part (if any water enters the product), and that is the sugar. With so much sugar, which is a preservative itself (if used in high enough amounts) will dissolve in the potential water and preserve the product. Since you use almost two kilos of sugar, it can preserve quite a lot of water. But if you dump lots and lots of water in there, and even some more, well, then the sugar can't preserve it anymore. What I would do instead of using a preservative, is to use a container that water can not enter. Like an airless pump or an upside-down squeeze bottle, for example. I don't know how well it would work for a sugar scrub, but to choose a container that does not let high amounts of water in the product, that will preserve it more than enough. I think it is best to not use a preservative if it can be avoided, since they are not completely harmless. And in this case, which is a water-free self-preserved product in the first place, it can be definately be avoided by changing container. To add preservative to a preserved product is unneccessary. What I find strange, after watching tons of RUclips videos about making sugar scrubs, is that most choose a preservative because how it is used in the shower. But nobody thinks of changing how it is used in the shower by eliminating dripping wet hands in a jar, the original problem they mention as why they need a preservative. I just wonder, since you use a preservative already, and have emulsifying wax in there, can't you add water to the product to make the consistency more lotion like, or body butter-ish? Would that work? I have not made any sugar scrub yet, that's why I watch all the videos, I would like to do it. But there are too many ways and recipes, so I get almost confused. Your sugar scrub looks really, really nice. I especially like the color :-)
I am no expert in preservatives, it is my understanding Germall Plus should not be used in all oil formulations but Germaben II is a good all-around preservative, especially for difficult to preserve formulas (it does contain parabens if that bothers you). I suggest reading Susan Nichols blog 'Point of Interest' she has a wealth of information on preservatives: swiftcraftymonkey.blogspot.com/p/preservatives.html
I use optiphen. It’s paraben and formaldehyde free preservative.
Hi Kevin, I have watched several of your videos and I really appreciate you for explaining your processes and the ingredients so well.
+Yolanda Baldwin Thanks, glad you find them helpful.
I am a new soap maker and I truly appreciate your suggesting where to find ingredients. Love your videos and your recipes. Thank you.

+Kevin Devine
Well like the products we make, it's the handmade that draw our eye. Thank you for your quick response.
+Laura Higgins I have seen some on etsy. Try a search on wood spoon or honey dippers. HTH
Very informative video. Excellent educational tutorial.
I'm looking for body butter videos that you've done and didn't see any . Have you done any?

+Hedvika Trott Thanks!

Kevin the scrub turned out good. Did they firm up any more after you put them in the jars? Thanks for the video and Have a great Holiday. :-)
+Denise Mosley It's firm...has the consistency of very wet sand.
Hi Kevin....how warm do you let the oils get? Doesn't it dissolve some of the sugar? Looks fab as usual :) Thanks for sharing!
I don't remember the temps when I mixed things, but sugar doesn't dissolve in oil (because oil is non-polar), or dissolves only very minimally depending on the oil.
Perfect...thank you!
Bruh love the scrub!

do you have to let it cool before putting g on the lid
also will it thicken more with cooling. what is the shelf life. thanks
Yes, it's best to wait until cool before putting on the lid and yes it does thicken some as it cool. The shelf life should be over a year.

What brand is the colorant ? Curious about liquid color
Celestial Colors
Kevin could we use salt instead of sugar?
+Toni Legates Yes, you can.
Thanks Kevin! I really enjoy all of your videos. Thanks for sharing your creations with us.
Is there supposed to be stearic acid in this one?
Nope.
Thanks again. I'll stop w all the questions lol :)
no problem :)
Where do I get the Dimeth and Siclo meth from Kevin?
Check out lotioncrafters: www.lotioncrafter.com/
Can I use Germall plus or germaben II instead phenonip? I can't find phenonip here :(

Kevin Devine thanks so much, it's very helpful :)
I can't find any kind of emulsifying wax in my country :( ... Can I do it without it? Or just with Polysorbate 80? Thanks in advance
You can't make an emulsified sugar scrub without an emulsifying agent, but you can make a regular sugar scrub.
Kevin Devine thank you.. won't be enough just a polysorbate with beeswax? Or estearic acid?
wHERE DID YOU GET YOUR COLOR FROM?
Celestial Colors
