I've received so many little extra gifts when I order from Japanese ebay sellers. Things like green tea bags, phone charms, a literal video game for the PSP with a figure I ordered. Oh and often times I'll get hand written thank you notes too 😅 It's always a nice extra surprise when you aren't expecting it
as soon as i saw the video thumbnail and you were hyping it up i knew what it was instantly. so many fond memories of this device. i was born in 2002 so i was like the target audience. i loved fosters home for imaginary friends on cartoon network so my mom bought me a fosters game for it and the soundtrack is still stuck in my head.
I see an AC adapter jack at the bottom, could try that. Make sure the voltage and polarity are correct. If that doesn't work then unfortunately it might be a pretty involved repair job. Love the videos 👍
I love your videos, they are more homely, more spontaneous, they capture what one feels when playing alone, video games are a kind of meditation for me, and enjoying them in an environment just for me, which you reflect with ease and spontaneity, which is why I prefer to watch your videos than to watch a famous one of the greats, a hug from Ecuador, keep it up, blessings
This reminds me of when I played some Dragon Ball GT game that I think was Tiger Electronics-adjacent. The funny thing is, I never even watched Dragon Ball to begin with
I've never touched one of these things but this repair seems right up my alley. At a glance it looks like either an outdated software/firmware issue or a somewhat simple electronic issue (again, at a glance, it could still be literally whatever else, lol). I'd be willing to buy it and send it back if I'm able to fix it.
Japanese sellers usually add small gifts on their packages. Once I bought an art book from slam dunk and they sent me a Kirby figure. On 2020 I bought a couple of games and they sent me this handwritten note "Hello, thank you for waiting! I've enclosed a clean face mask for you and your family. May you and your family be safe and healthy. Thank you so much!" and then his name at the end. I still have the note and the masks in their little sealed bag in my desk justto read it from time to time
Based upon the age of the device, it wouldn't surprise me if one or more of the capacitors on the system PCB have stopped working. It's pretty common on electronics from the days of yore. Many older consoles and handhelds have a new lease of life breathed into them after being recapped (having the capacitors replaced).
Omg I loved my Didj as a kid. Had almost all of the games. Though needing to run the "Tune up" every few months got old. Wolverine and the xmen, nicktoons, jedi trials. All great games : )
I know this is a strange thing to say but, you would make a perfect Jill Valentine in a Resident Evil movie if they did one. You look just like the character art from the games.
Could be bap capacitors, but who knows with such a niche device. There are lots of electronics repair RUclips channels who would like a challenge, I'm sure.
This thing came out just after the capacitor plague. Companies cheaped out on capacitors and devices would fail even when brandnew. It could be that or that the Leapfrog was made with cheap components to keep cost down. Definitely degradation over time. It doesn't matter if it's in the box never touched. If you do resurrect it, you might find a hack for it. Someone would have ported Doom to it by now.
It probably needs a firmware/software update from the disc that was included. You’d need a pc running windows xp or windows 7 to run that software I’d imagine.
I had a leapster when I was younger. I don’t remember what model it was exactly, it was grey and blue with a stylus attached to it. That, a vsmile (another game console for children), and the games on Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network, and cool math were my introduction to games before I got a Wii
great video! I never got any gifts from US based ebay purchases, but several times now over the years, i have received random free gifts in ebay purchases from Japan! One of the sellers that i bought several games from over a few years would always include a mini hand made origami of a bird or bug in a nice small envelope with hand written notes saying thank you. Toothbrush is a new one for sure, but what a cool story!
I had the green one from 2006 and it had a Spider-Man and Batman game built in. I saw RUclipsrs mod this thing to play emulators like game boy it’s actually pretty crazy that it’s even possible.
There's a Sonic X game for the original Leapster, the console is just called Leapster from what i know. I remember it because of how much i used to beg my mom to buy it for me lol.
This makes me more excited for this upcoming weekend, ima go retro game hunt for my collection, while also keep the budget good enough for my new gaming PC 😂😂😂 but I’m excited.
On one hand I'm shocked by how relatively good the screen on this thing looks, but on the other I have to remind myself that it came out way after the PSP and only a few years before the OLED Vita, so I guess they kind of "figured it out" by then, even on the lesser/completely unknown systems 🤣
If you get another one, from what i can see you only need to push that plastic tab down to remove the battery compartment. Use a small coin or something like a guitar pick to avoid scratches
I had a didj cuz I asked my grandma for a thing I saw in a magazine, and she got me the wrong thing. I played it for 5 minutes, didn't ever get to fully use the features
It might be the internal battery. The button ones that are typically called something like 2032, seem likely to have squeezed the last juice out when you turned it on after 16 years.
I have a wavebird controller that doesn’t ever want to turn on. I have to move the batteries around while they are in the slots and it finally turns on. Might be a problem with the contacts not making good contact.
My son hada leapfrog too when he was young, they were great for kids as so durable. Nowadays ppl just get the amazon fire tablet kids edition where they replace when kids break no matter what.
If it isn’t working on batteries you could try finding a power adapter that fits. For the Didj you need 9v and at least 700mA/0.7A. You can use one with higher Amps, just make sure the voltage is the same. If you can’t find one I would recommend getting a universal power adapter, they have interchangeable tips and you can adjust the voltage yourself, then it will be useful for other devices too.
I thought i was a leapster connoisseur but i never heard of the didj. Anyway rhat robot voice was evil. I recommend burying it far away from where you live. Consider yourself lucky it didnt turn back on.
Oof, could be that the system just didn't hold up over time! What a bummer. Your best bet is going to be getting a used one in good condition with everything already installed.
Oddly, I've gotten "free gifts" from a few eBay sellers, and several Amazon sellers, too, but mostly Amazon sellers. Several times that I've purchased a CD, for instance, I've also received a still sealed CD sampler. Other times, mostly when buying from Amazon sellers, I'll be sent, along with my purchase, a slip of paper with instructions on redeeming a "free gift", which has ranged from several different items. Odd, yes, but it does happen.
I've had two expriances where the seller on ebay was japanese and in one they sent a photo of themself, a paper crane, and candy, and a note saying thank you and how the crane meant goodluck for the item to arrive. and the other same thing with a paper crane thank you note but with the note on the sencond one they sent a packet of instant dry soup + tea bag.
How do you store or display your video games? I ask because I'm looking for inspiration on how to store mine lol and you seem to have a similar decorating style to me.
Lmao I had one of these. It was the Star Wars edition. It was also my first handheld. It came with some lame Star Wars math game (that I never beat) and a racing game. I played the system quite a bit because I was trying to fill the void of not having a DS (I got one a couple years later). I remember taking it to school and getting a lot of weird, judgy looks. A couple months later and some other kid brought one and everyone was super interested in it. I was so peeved lol.
i purchased a yugioh card on ebay and also received a dragon ball z card as a bonus which i loved because it was Gohan. sadly dont know what happened to it. also when i sell things on ebay like a Ipad tablet i add extra things to make sure i get a good feed back , like a case or 2.
I was curious if this would've had the same issue that old gameboy games had where there was another internal battery on the pcb that could have been drained. I did find one image of the didj circuit board but there's almost no info on it and it does look like it could have been cheaply made. It might just be as you said that it didn't hold up over the years
Well it's not a total failure... The toothbrush still works! 😉
lmao🤣
Plus it’s also got the toothpaste 😂❤
I've received so many little extra gifts when I order from Japanese ebay sellers. Things like green tea bags, phone charms, a literal video game for the PSP with a figure I ordered. Oh and often times I'll get hand written thank you notes too 😅 It's always a nice extra surprise when you aren't expecting it
"You put anything with a cat on it,and I would want it"... mystery of the random Cat Steven's record SOLVED 😂
This is true 😭😭
as soon as i saw the video thumbnail and you were hyping it up i knew what it was instantly. so many fond memories of this device. i was born in 2002 so i was like the target audience. i loved fosters home for imaginary friends on cartoon network so my mom bought me a fosters game for it and the soundtrack is still stuck in my head.

LEAP FROG???? OHMYGOD THE MEMORIES ARE COMING BACK
I need toothpaste 😂
I love your videos, they are more homely, more spontaneous, they capture what one feels when playing alone, video games are a kind of meditation for me, and enjoying them in an environment just for me, which you reflect with ease and spontaneity, which is why I prefer to watch your videos than to watch a famous one of the greats, a hug from Ecuador, keep it up, blessings
Nostalgia is a hell of a drug they say 😅
Loved the vid, keep making vids on stuff you enjoy sharing
You're lucky... I grew up with Tiger Electronics handhelds... Those were the Dark Ages...
👁👄👁
This reminds me of when I played some Dragon Ball GT game that I think was Tiger Electronics-adjacent. The funny thing is, I never even watched Dragon Ball to begin with
ghosting was a feature not a bug, Mario bros. 2 on a tiger electronic watch.
Us at that time: "thirty.... fps? SIXTY?What are you talking about??" 😂
Lmaoooo Jesus those things sucked
The toothbrush is from ANA (All Nipon Airways) the Japanese airline.
That toothbrush 🪥 is hilarious. 😂 Chill video.
I've never touched one of these things but this repair seems right up my alley. At a glance it looks like either an outdated software/firmware issue or a somewhat simple electronic issue (again, at a glance, it could still be literally whatever else, lol). Congrats on all the success on your channel lately! Also, I love that you have a Cat Stevens album. Excellent music taste.

i TOTALLY see it
YEAH or elle from the last of us if she had a haircut
She can definitely cosplay if she just wears the blue bonet for a Halloween video it would be perfect lmao
nah. stop being strange
@@kidrobot. how is that strange?
I would have been the happiest kid if I had that when I was like 8. Hell, I wouldn't mind something goofy like this right now lol
Could be bap capacitors, but who knows with such a niche device. There are lots of electronics repair RUclips channels who would like a challenge, I'm sure.
Yeah I first thought it might have bad capacitors just being old.
I bought a game from a Japanese seller, and they left me a nice note and included a pen from Japan, it was so nice!
I had the original leapfrog when I was little
It probably needs a firmware/software update from the disc that was included. You’d need a pc running windows xp or windows 7 to run that software I’d imagine.
Windows 7/xp virtual machine
I had a leapster when I was younger. I don’t remember what model it was exactly, it was grey and blue with a stylus attached to it. That, a vsmile (another game console for children), and the games on Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network, and cool math were my introduction to games before I got a Wii

Feel your pain! Maybe try looking for a used one since it probably has games already installed.
lmfao bro the leap frog! They had a bunch of really cool games and consoles. I haven't thought of this thing in years wow
I had the green one from 2006 and it had a Spider-Man and Batman game built in.
I saw RUclipsrs mod this thing to play emulators like game boy it’s actually pretty crazy that it’s even possible.
I usually get stickers as a side gift, and their usually Pokemon.
My first handheld console was the original Game Boy that I got on my birthday in 1991
Another cozy vid, hope you have a great day mikyatto!
The original leapster also had a Sonic game and it's basically Sonic Advanced but you get bombarded with math
that ANA toothbrush is pretty neat merch, i wouldve kept it wrapped up lol
There's a Sonic X game for the original Leapster, the console is just called Leapster from what i know. I remember it because of how much i used to beg my mom to buy it for me lol.
Thats a relic fr fr love it
geez, I could feel the deflation at the end, unfortunately you just never know w/ old tech, even if "brand new"
You are a great person to be around 💙
The toothbrush is great for cleaning consoles actually!
This makes me more excited for this upcoming weekend, ima go retro game hunt for my collection, while also keep the budget good enough for my new gaming PC 😂😂😂 but I’m excited.
Thats a beautiful color for a DSi ! i have an all white one and it looks very pale and bland. but wow that burgundy one stands out
On one hand I'm shocked by how relatively good the screen on this thing looks, but on the other I have to remind myself that it came out way after the PSP and only a few years before the OLED Vita, so I guess they kind of "figured it out" by then, even on the lesser/completely unknown systems 🤣
The Leap Frog can also emulate all Gamboy & Gameboy Advanced games, its a cool little system
The handheld version of Dio Brando?? ZE WORLD!!
I get free gifts from japanese sellers quite often, i guess its some cultural courtesy thing. Ive gotten everything from candy to small origami art
My guess is that one or more of the capacitors inside went bad and need to be replaced.
Might be a problem with the contacts not making good contact.
fun fact: there was a sonic x game on the system as well, yes the anime
My son hada leapfrog too when he was young, they were great for kids as so durable. Nowadays ppl just get the amazon fire tablet kids edition where they replace when kids break no matter what.

I've had a japenese ebay seller send me a "This is your name in japanese" thank you note with an audio sampler I ordered.
It was so cute
I’m obsessed with your hair cut and your wonderful channel keep up the great work! 🙌🏾
This is genuinely was a fun video to watch, you've earned my sub. Keep up the good work👍🏾
I thought i was a leapster connoisseur but i never heard of the didj. Anyway rhat robot voice was evil. I recommend burying it far away from where you live. Consider yourself lucky it didnt turn back on.
Woooo bonus toothbrush let's gooooooo!!! 🔥
Oof, could be that the system just didn't hold up over time! What a bummer. Your best bet is going to be getting a used one in good condition with everything already installed.
CIB! One of the few in the collector's community
Oddly, I've gotten "free gifts" from a few eBay sellers, and several Amazon sellers, too, but mostly Amazon sellers. That's hilarious but that seller obviously never seen your videos because your teeth are perfect. Im pretty sure you have plenty of toothbrushes 😂
still a really neat video!
Side Note. As a die hard Peanuts fan, your shirt is awesome!!
There might be a way to get the game installed. I'm sure there are fan forums.
I want to be like you when I grow up!
Sorry it didn't work out with the system. I personally had never heard of it, but it looks like it was a neat little gaming device!
Aww I wish it had worked, it looked really fun
I've had two expriances where the seller on ebay was japanese and in one they sent a photo of themself, a paper crane, and candy, and a note saying thank you and how the crane meant goodluck for the item to arrive. and the other same thing with a paper crane thank you note but with the note on the sencond one they sent a packet of instant dry soup + tea bag.
How do you store or display your video games? I ask because I'm looking for inspiration on how to store mine lol and you seem to have a similar decorating style to me.
This thing was pretty much the mature leapster. Also, you would've loved nintendogs + cats on 3DS
I never had a Leapfrog when i was younger lol i had Gameboys and then skipped DS until the 3DS. The Leapfrog actually looks pretty cool though 😂
Lmao I had one of these. It was the Star Wars edition. It was also my first handheld. It came with some lame Star Wars math game (that I never beat) and a racing game.

A couple months later and some other kid brought one and everyone was super interested in it. I was so peeved lol.
I had a leap frog back in the day. Don’t know if it was this model but it was replaced by a game boy advance before too long 😂
Okay, so after a long while i finally remember how it feels to have a crush again. Mikyatto is so beautiful ❤️
You are like a breath of fresh air ✨️ 💕
I used to own the Sonic game but really badly wanted the Star Wars one 😭
this was my child hood omg...
I've had a Japanese seller include some Japanese candy. It was very cute but didn't taste all that good lol
i had no idea there was a sonic game for leapfrog lmao
i purchased a yugioh card on ebay and also received a dragon ball z card as a bonus which i loved because it was Gohan. sadly dont know what happened to it. also when i sell things on ebay like a Ipad tablet i add extra things to make sure i get a good feed back , like a case or 2.
It's a fairly common'ish quirk when ordering from a Japanese seller, they like to go the extra mile. Never seen anyone recieve a toothbrush as a gift.
Was it “SEEEEAAALLEEDD!!”?
I purchased a game from a Japanese seller, and they included an origami crane and a handwritten note (in English) thanking me for my purchase.
I've never seen this console before but I think it looks like
sega game gear😊
You could find the files online.
damm... thats the worst part of collecting old stuff =S that may probably stop working... even worst few mins out of the box -__- ¡
I do all my gaming on a LeapFrog 2-in-1 LeapTop Touch
It's definitely better than the Game com. That thing was a nightmare.
Sounds like there prob a shortage with the power. Im guessing theres capacitors on the mother board that need to be replaced :(
2005's Sonic X, based on the TV show of the same name, made for the Leapster is the only other one
Are you using rechargeable batteries? Those are 1.2V. May need 1.5V that alkaline batteries put out
Maybe the motherboard is corroded? My best guess. It's why every one of my Xbox 360 controllers don't work.
It can be cleaned with rubbing alcohol and a q tip.
this girl looks like the actress from freaks and geeks
I was curious if this would've had the same issue that old gameboy games had where there was another internal battery on the pcb that could have been drained. I did find one image of the didj circuit board but there's almost no info on it and it does look like it could have been cheaply made. It might just be as you said that it didn't hold up over the years
I have honestly never seen or even heard of one of those things in my life 😂 whaaaaaaaaaaaaat
I feel your pain 😔
Toothbrush as a free gift 😅
Not tryna be weird or anything but enjoy the channel content definitely you’re perfect( I remember having a certain leapfrog device)
Siri ain't got nothing on didj lady. 😆
