My mom drove me all over town trying to find Magic’s version. The last store we checked had my size and I was living the freaking dream!! Nostalgia is awesome!
The fact that they’re not releasing the Magic colorway is absolutely baffling to me. They were the first shoe I was obsessed with getting when I was 13 years old in 1986. I was lucky enough to get them back then and was so excited when I saw images of this new pair pop up on social media, but was GUTTED to find out they were Friends & Family only. I’m happy you got a pair because you appreciate them at least, but, from what I’ve heard, several people who received them think Weapons are trash. Such a shame.
The Converse Weapon is the sneaker that got me into shoes. No joke. Got my first pair as a kid when Converse wasn't owned by Nike yet. I've always loved the shoe. When I found out these were coming back on the market, it wasn't a choice. I had to have them. I've had lots of iterations of the shoes in my lifetime, and it's one of my favorite sneakers to this day. I agree that if you're going to release the Larry Bird pair you need to release the corresponding Magic Johnson shoe as well. Anything else is a missed opportunity. But I also think the other colors from the tv commercial should be re-released too. Those have never gotten as much love as these two. Converse should be flooding the market with Weapons right now. Not being cute with little limited releases. We the people want to arm ourselves, Converse. Give us your weapons.
I had the red, white, and blue ones that they released in the early 2000’s. I absolutely loved them. The insole had a textured surface to the top. I was really hoping that they did that with these but it looks like they didn’t.
I was wearing leather converse in middle school and high school in the early 80s. After Chucks but before Weapons. Started wearing Weapons in 86 or 87 for my last 2 years of high school and into college (used to goto the Converse factory outlet, get whatever color ways were on clearance, back then I think alot of school teams ordered matching shoes and the extras went to the outlet). Anyway - midsole was Eva ( I remember it being blue in mine but that might have been a later shoe). Ankles were kinda puffy. Was a good supportive shoe especially in the ankle.
Very late to the convo but I absolutely love my fragment pair. Just an overall great shoe. I love the weapon because former mavs great Mark Aguirre wore them!

I had the Magic's back in the 80s when I was a kid. They have to release them. I don't think I can pull these off now in my 40's, but I would probably buy to display. Thanks for putting a smile on my face with the nostalgia.

Been waiting for a proper retro of these for years, and I’m so happy Converse finally did it. Just got my Black pairs and I LOVE them. Superb leather quality, and lots of inner and tongue padding making for an overall comfy shoe, plus the polyurethane insole helps a lot. All that for $120, meanwhile my Jordan retros cost $180 - $250 and leather on those can’t even come close to the Weapons. Do better Jordan brand, do better. PS. Dear Converse, please release the lakers colorway to the public. I need and WANT them alongside my black Larry Bird pairs. Or better yet, eventually roll out all the original team colorways, having a wall of all them in my place would be the dream.
Great review. IIRC Converse also had a shoe called the Revolver, same as the Weapon, just a lower tier and price point. And, technically road kill can be quite dangerous. Bacteria, disease, and some predators actually eat road kill so you never know what could be lurking nearby.

I got my Larry legend weapons last week! It is an absolute dream from when I was a kid. I grew up being the biggest Larry Bird fan, and loved the Celtics. It makes absolutely no sense to me that they wouldn’t release the magic and bird at the same time, that feels like a massive Miss. I have a friend who is a huge Celtics fan, especially that era, and I found him an original 1986 poster of the choose your weapon ad you showed in the video!
Thank you Chris again for supporting the shoe that got me onto sneakers. Sadly Converse's marketing team isn't getting funded or just straight up lacks interest in Converse's history/fans. I know Nike is pulling the strings but even they've come up short for a decade plus now. It actually makes sense that they'd play it safe and only release these. It's been the play book for awhile now. Safe to say now we'll never see the rest of the ERX line, Magic's Signature, more Aero/React stuff, the NBA branded stuff when they had the rights and many more. I've been lucky enough to pick up a couple pairs of weapons and other vintage converse from the few times they figured it out but now they are far past being able to be wore. Anyways solid video again brother.

I was from Worcester, MA, when these dropped. We drove to the Converse Outlet in Malden, about 2.5 hrs rd trip & got 2 prs each, we barely had $ for gas and cheap beer those days… but we had $ for sneakers 🏀👍

Nice review as usual. I bought a pair of the Bird hi tops and I gotta say they are beautiful: nice leather, super comfortable, and not that expensive at all. As a matter of fact I think this model has a very high quality/cost ratio, just like in Converse aren't believing they made a great product.
I'm 100% on Chris' side with this question, very few animals are truly safe. The closest I can get to answering this is palmetto bugs (aka Florida cockroaches). They are harmless and don't really infest areas like regular roaches but I'm freaked out every time I run into one of those monsters.
I want the Magic Highs. I hope they eventually release them for the public. I played basketball in those back in the 80’s. I had a connection at converse, so actually owned multiple pairs in different color ways.

They were our team shoes when I was kid. They were every school’s team shoes do to all the colors. Don’t ever wear them to a pool party. If you fall in with these on you will sink to the bottom in seconds.

I have the retail version from 1986 in an almost pristine condition (Lakers colorway) and I was thrilled when Converse (owned by Nike, yeah-yeah) announced the return of the Weapon. The Fragment and Kasina collabs were meh IMHO but man, when the Larry's came in in February 8th, I was like the kid I was in 1986 (I was 11). The sneakers are very comfortable but I noticed something strange : that stitch line on the heel near the ankle and a bigger midsole than the GR from 1986. And another strange thing : why are those new Retro releases called Mid ? They are higher than the GR back then. It's a shame if Converse keeps the Lakers colorway as F&F, really. I don't know if it's the video rendering but the purple and yellow are looking more flashy or saturated than the 1986 ones. P. S. : I DMed you on your Instagram to send you pics of the GR from 1986 compared to the new retro.

It’s great that they finally started reissuing Weapons (that sounds a bit scary, though). They looked better in my souvenirs, I had white and blue ones as a kid in the early 90’s although not sure there were Weapons and not another similar silhouette. For the safe animals, dead ones are not safe, because of all the germs and even smaller animals potentially crawling in and around them!
I got a pair and had to return them. They were mad narrow for me. I got a size 11 and if it was wider I would have bought several pairs. They weren't anywhere near as supportive as the og 86, either. Oh well...great vid
1987, my junior year of high school, we had the Weapons as our team shoe and OOF they were hard and heavy and you could literally kill somebody if you wanted to. 🤣

I had the royals, the red and the lows in both as well in the 80's when they released in high school. These joints are terrible looking however I never had the black joints if not sold out I'd get a pair.
These probably feel a hell of a lot lighter than the Turbowpn from the Rick Owen’s collab. I got the black/white/cream pair frok last year and the midsole is insanely thick but perfect for the Rick aesthetic.

They need to bring that black and red colorway back. Besides the Lakers and b/w the black and reds are the best. Still have my gold, navy and white from the old release back in the 00’s
The black pair is probably one of the highest quality sneaker converse have released this year the black leather panels minus the tongue are legit leather and decently thick. Too bad they didn't go the extra mile and made the off white or sail panels the same type of leather as the black panels. The off white or sail parts and the tongue looks to be made with the type of synthetic leather that would crack and peel over time I feel the high top collar would be the first to show the cracks. But it might be how the originals back then are made.

Back in the day you had to wear these around the house with 2-3 pairs of socks on for about a week to break them in before you could hoop in them.

It’s great that they finally started reissuing Weapons (that sounds a bit scary, though). They looked better in my souvenirs, I had white and blue ones as a kid in the early 90’s although not sure there were Weapons and not another similar silhouette.
For the safe animals, dead ones are not safe, because of all the germs and even smaller animals potentially crawling in and around them!
These look clean! Also, tiny mice freak me out! Sometimes they get in the garage and I find them and I shriek like a little baby!🤣🤣🤣
I got a pair and had to return them. They were mad narrow for me. I got a size 11 and if it was wider I would have bought several pairs. They weren't anywhere near as supportive as the og 86, either. Oh well...great vid

I’m so excited & happy that Converse is releasing these sneakers again!! I had an original pair back in 1986, (the Larry Bird ones) and I can’t wait to get these. The Converse Weapon is my all time favorite basketball sneaker!! Thank you Converse for finally releasing these “bad boys”

I had the royals, the red and the lows in both as well in the 80's when they released in high school. These joints are terrible looking however I never had the black joints if not sold out I'd get a pair.
I got a pair in TTS and had to return them. They felt pretty cramped width size and I don't even have wide feet

These probably feel a hell of a lot lighter than the Turbowpn from the Rick Owen’s collab. I got the black/white/cream pair frok last year and the midsole is insanely thick but perfect for the Rick aesthetic.

They need to bring that black and red colorway back. Besides the Lakers and b/w the black and reds are the best. Still have my gold, navy and white from the old release back in the 00’s
The black pair is probably one of the highest quality sneaker converse have released this year the black leather panels minus the tongue are legit leather and decently thick. Too bad they didn't go the extra mile and made the off white or sail panels the same type of leather as the black panels. The off white or sail parts and the tongue looks to be made with the type of synthetic leather that would crack and peel over time I feel the high top collar would be the first to show the cracks. But it might be how the originals back then are made.
Those low tops look pretty good.
