  • A follow-up from the last video.

I forgot to flash the Mac Pro's firmware from a 4,1 to a 5,1. Certain Mac Pro models, like the 2006 (1,1) and the 2007 (2,1), as well as the 2009 (4,1) and the 2010 (5,1), have similar hardware compared to their successor. That generally makes it a good idea to flash the firmware of your older Mac Pro to the maximum it will support. In my case, it allowed me to install a metal-compatible GPU for native macOS Mojave support, a more smooth macOS Catalina experience (despite not being natively supported), and the ability to run my video editor.
I may also try to get macOS Big Sur or Monterrey on it since the new graphics card works very well.

    Current specs of the machine:
Dual 2.26 Ghz Quad-Core Intel Xeon processors
    32 GB 1066 MHz DDR3 RAM
    NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680 2048 (2GB) VRAM

I know this is old but for the new ppl reading, the problem with the Link was the Spaces between El Capitan, you should know by now that Addresses shouldn't have SPACES in them... That's why it says Myvolume and not My Volume.

Cool ! I’m updating the firmware of mine tonight after work. Will install my already delided x5675.
My daily driver is a single tray 5.1 but I wanted more processing power, hence why I bought a 2009 dual tray.

I cannot for the life of me get this working at all. I did everything, I MEAN EVERYTHING, you said to do in the video, but when I restart it, the light blinks, I hear the beep, then the chime, but it doesn't go to the fat loading bar. WHAT AM I DOING WRONG??? (Yes I disabled SIP)

Looking at It, I think the spaces in the volume was the problem. I remember seeing someone talk about it once and using | or / I forgot at this point.

That's right, before a space, usually within directories we need to put a backslash (\) to tell the terminal that it's not a new command. If he had put the volume name as El\ Capitan\ Installer then it would have worked. this is also for special characters like % and $

I found that installing high Sierra on a hard rive but not an SSD, I can put it in my 2009 Mac Pro and it runs it. But I will need to update the 4,1 to 5,1 for better performance.

I also follow the entire step by step, but I'm facing the same problem as yours, the initialization goes straight through. You did it?

@@arnaldocosta9079 my soution of the problem was, that the boot rom wasnt new enought to flash ot directly for the (1.5? i am not sure anymore about the numbers). there exist another bootRom-upgrader, you need first to run it and then u can do the next step flashing to to 5.1 :) try to google the version of your boot rom plus something like "upgrade", there were a few threads about it

@@arnaldocosta9079 i wrote a comment about two hours ago, but it either disappeared or isn't displayed to me😅
yes i made it, the rebooting stays if the BootROM is too old for the 1.5 Update, you need first to install the 1.4 update. just google straight for "Mac Pro EFI Firmware Update 1.4", there will be an official Apple page. use a newer mac or windows tondownload the file, older safari versions won't show the button bevause of security reasons. the installation process is pretty the same - mount, long press to reboot and so on, it's all described in the programm. then u are ready for the 1.5 efi upgrade to flash it for 5.1:)
