It’s by far Jackie’s most well rounded film and, in my eyes, his all time best. He nails the comedy, nails the action and nails the variety. It’s a wonderful film that works on so many levels. I often tell people it’s my favourite kung fu film of all time.
Couldn’t agree more!
Although it's not quite my favourite Jackie film, I do think it is the best representation of the Kung Fu comedy genre. The balance is perfect, and you can see the effort put into each and every scene. Love that we get Lily Li doing the skirt-foot style, only to be replicated by Jackie later in the film. Great ensemble of villains, too. Great video, Kaleb - I love the new intro, so cool.
Thank you!
Hwang In-Shik looked so different in this film as well
Man, I didn’t even recognize him the first time I saw The Young Master. I was used to seeing the younger him in Way of the Dragon.
@@kalebskungfucinema apparently he retired in 76 from cinema and Young master and dragon lord was Jackie dragging him out of retirement. Lives in Canada.
I think it is time to have my wife watch this one...
The time has come indeed! I haven’t shown it to my wife just yet myself, but soon!
Fun Jackie film - which cut is your preferred one?
I prefer the HK theatrical version. The export cut was a bit of a letdown. Too much of the final fight was removed and the music is kinda obnoxious. Lol.
@@kalebskungfucinema ahh yes gotta have that full 18 minute fight scene! I just listened to the Heroes Three Podcast episode where they discuss Young Master in great detail.
Definitely the HK cut for me.
Think of that era of Jackie Chan it’s better than Drunken Master actually…
I agree. Drunken Master is a good movie (not as good as Drunken Master 2), but I never really saw it as his magnum opus like most do.
@@kalebskungfucinema really interesting period. I think he’d really learn a lot from his 70s apprenticeship. Two years on from that things were quickly advancing. Interestingly I’m just revisiting Hapkido on Blu-ray and I forgot he makes a very brief appearance in it.
Yeah he does. Gotta keep an eye out for it though, lol. Hwang In-shik has some cool moments in Hapkido too. Watched that some months ago.
Heard Jackie was the one that took those kicks @3:41
