Watching all these fighting movies when i was a child motivated me to do karate myself. I finished it with a black belt. That was a long time ago but i always have a fighter spirit in me. I always hope i dont get ever in a fight. 😅
Can we just all appreciate how good of quality our phones can run? I remember watching this on VHS on my 8 inch fat back RCA tv and now it’s 1,000 times more clear and in my pocket. Technology is taken for granted man.
Fun fact - JCVD was actually approached to be a character in the original mortal kombat movie, but declined...so they created Johnny Cage instead, modeled after van Damme and his bloodsport character.

This movie and Kickboxer are the main reason why I started doing martial arts. It had a huge influence on me. Around that time there were a lot of martial arts movies coming out, which was really cool. Ofcourse not all of them were good, but what a great era to grow up in!
And let me guess. All of those movies involved white guys learning to do martial arts better than the Asians who invented and practiced them for centuries. Now where have we seen this before? Oh yeah, that's basically the script of every martial arts movie made in Hollywood.

It's a face almost like of suffering after landing a fatal blow on another human being. I never really understood the nuance of it. But they were effective in films like "Enter the Dragon", in which Bolo is also featured.

I thought i read somewhere about a year ago that he was in bad health, i'm hoping i'm wrong though. He's really off the grid at this point, you can't find much information about him and what he's doing as far as i can tell. I don't think he's doing anything in the public anymore, like attending conventions or anything for autographs. Correct me if i'm wrong though!
The movie is called Bloodsport and no one was disqualified for the death of a fighter earlier in the movie. Pretty safe to say the ref is just for show. He starts the fights, checks for a fighter's pulse and declares the winner.
I trained very hard watching these movies and become a strong martial artist. Once I was passing by road and saw 4 people beating an old lady. I didn't hesitate and helped out with my fighting experience. The old lady stood no chance against the five of us
Look at how expressive the ref is. Its crazy how much vulnerability and respect he's able to convey to the point where I care about the character's welfare, and all without a single word of dialogue.
Im 40 and id give anything to go back to the 80s and 90a and be a kid again and watch these movies. I still watch them today. So kuch better than a lot of cgi crap from today. Raw action, macho men, fantastic music and no bloody agenda.
Goated movie right here. I think Spike TV having this on like every 1-2 days (Movies for guys who like movies) really drilled this into me as my favorite of all time.

Apart from the soundtrack and the cinematics, what I enjoyed the most was the training scenes of the fighters. It reminds me that, with consistent training, we can really excel at any endeavor.
It's surely cool to see in a movie, but in a real fight 90% of the styles would be totally useless. Beating Muay Thai by using a joke like Kung Fu? No way.
Chung Lee was a beast...he didn't have to cheat..he had many credentials and skill..and could have beaten Van Damme..but then again..Van Damne was trained by Sensai Tanaka

Cannon Films also had a number of considerable big budget flops like Superman 4, Over the Top, and Masters of The Universe so I'm sure this film helped them to some degree.

That particular referee's voice made this movie iconic to me. It's just the perfect thing to hear before the music and the fighting. I'm sure any other voice would've change the entire feel of the movie.
Best part of this whole scene is from 7:16-7:33 with the camera panning around both of them behind the judges heads as they stalk each other..The music playing is pure fantasy like out of some video game.I saw this twice in the theatre at 15 and to this day when I watch this scene I can just smell the 1.50 popcorn and 2.00 sodas and imagine my best friend from then sitting next to me on a Saturday afternoon in 1988…

Best part of this whole scene is from 7:16-7:33 with the camera panning around both of them behind the judges heads as they stalk each other..The music playing is pure fantasy like out of some video game.I saw this twice in the theatre at 15 and to this day when I watch this scene I can just smell the 1.50 popcorn and 2.00 sodas and imagine my best friend from then sitting next to me on a Saturday afternoon in 1988…
I remember watching this movie as a child with my parents and it was on VHS 📼 unforgettable childhood memories.
Must have watched this 600 times on VHS.

Estos hombres (Van damme, schwarzenegger, stallone, norris, etc) eran superhéroes para nosotros, sus personajes motivaban y dejaban enseñanzas, gracias a Dios doy por haber nacido en los 80.
When he screamed after being blinded it broke me I'm not going to lie this is my favorite movie of all time I just wIsh everything would of stayed retro (but what can I say it's not my era anymore😥😥)
