Word in the street is, this is J Hope's farewell song to ARMY before his upcoming military enlistment (just announced). He's said for years that J Cole has always been one of his biggest influences since he was kid with his beginnings in street dance. J Hope only learned to rap after joining BTS as a dancer, so he just gives himself back to his roots in this MV -- just dancing while J Cole spits. Mans gave it up for his hero.

Your face when J Cole raps is adorable. Pure admiration. J Cole is J Hopes hero and he started off as a street dancer so dancing to Coles verse on a song they have together is his dream come true. I don’t know if you noticed but his flows are like dance moves. So in a way he was telling his story at the same time by freestyle dancing. Not to mention he’s a fan so he was probably like more more! You should check out BTS’s version of born sinner called born singer.

Hope laid down a beat and a vibe that was beautiful. Although Hope gave the major time to J Cole, who killed it, J Hope not only got to work with his muse, his idol, he told us, Army what he wanted us to know and to remember while he is gone. Every step he has taken with BTS and with his solo projects have been to express who he is and his love for Army, for his fans, the people who loved him. The people he didn't think he would have in the beginning. His heart is as big as the sun and I hate to go so long without him shining on us but he left us with a grammy worthy love song and he got J Cole to add bars that fit right into the beat, the sound that J Hope made. J Cole, who is suppose to be retiring left his on message to the ones who love him. It's a collab of love

I agree, I wish we had a longer verse from Hobi but he knew what he was doing. The song, the beat, the whistle - j-hope created it all with J.Cole in mind. He’s showing J.Cole all his respect and dancing while his hero, muse, idol and inspiration spits 32 bars of pure poetic truth. Damn this was good!

Since J-Hope will leave us soon for Military Service, I personally feel that "us" could translate into "ARMY" and the" BTS Members" too. He did all that for us and for his "brothers" and "himself" too as he flourished making his life dream of Street Dancing, Singing and Rapping into becoming an Artist to making Historic History. 💜

I loved the song 🔥FINALLY HOPE WORLD MEETS COLE WORLD!!!! Without a doubt, my favorite part was when Jhope danced while J. Cole rapped because Hobi said he used to dance to his songs when he was young and to see him dance while collaborating on a special song for him with his idol...I got so emotional, I cried. Also when Hobi was finding his own style as a rapper J. Cole's style was his inspiration. When I saw the pictures of J. Cole at Lollapalooza it was like wow, he met his idol, and then with the images in his documentary "Jhope in the box" (Disney Channel) I really thought "I wish they would do a song together"🥺 but I didn't expect it, when I saw J. Cole in the mv teaser, I SCREAMED 😱, no one saw it coming! Thanks for your reaction💜

Hi, I'm a 57 year old BTS ARMY, and my someone, my husband and I are both ARMY. My bias's in BTS are RM and J-Hope equally. I love all the members, but I have a soft spot for those two. All the rap line in BTS are incredibly talented and skilled MC's. J-Hope just announced his withdrawal of his military postponement, which means he is the next member to enlist for Mandatory Military Service. So Far, JIN was the only one that enlisted on Decebmer 13, 2022. They all have to serve 18 months. J-Hope stated in a livestream with ARMY's, that this song is a gift to us, like a good bye for now, until I return. BTS are all doing their solo projects right now before their enlistment.
You might want to check out some songs that pay homage to BTS's hip hop infulences, espcially since their roots are HIP HOP. They debuted in 2013 as a HIP HOP Idol group in South Korea. One of the songs is Born Singer, which is a remix of Born Sinner, and Hip Hop Lover, which shouts out their Hip Hop influences. I can link those with accurate subtitles. And J-Hope's solo project, that is a masterpeice, and his live headlining performance at Lollapalooza (dubbed HOBIPALOOZA after J-Hope's nickname HOBI). J-Hope finally got to meet his muse J-Cole at Lollapalooza. It was a full circle moement. And I believe this is an organic result of them meeting.

    appreciate your genuinely good energy🙏
    Ok. Story time:)
JHope wrote this song as a farewell gift to ARMY (BTS's massive and dedicated global fanbase) in October 2022, right after he released his solo album, Jack In The Box, and performed live @ Lollapalooza in Chicago - an historical event because JHope's the 1st S. Korean artist to ever headline @ Lolla, where he and JCole (JHope's long-time muse and among his biggest inspirations) met in person. JHope said that while he was writing it, he thought of JCole. JHope's own rap style is melodic and layered (just like his dancing); he developed his own rap style while rooming with RM and SUGA (both underground rappers) well before BTS debuted as a group with vocalists. But like all able-bodied men, when they come of age in SK, JHope and the rest of BTS members have to enlist in mandatory military service (technically, SK and NK have been in a cold war for decades), so each have been lining up for their goodbyes, dropping their solo projects before they have to leave for 2 years. They're trying to sync up their to regroup in 2025. A lot of people don't know this - because many see BTS as a stereotypical boy band - but the group is rooted in hip hop. They did not get to where they were easy either, but grinded their way from broke bottom to the top of the top (now the biggest group in the world, as you know, breaking all kinds of records, selling out stadiums worldwide, hundreds of awards, biggest fan following on the globe, all that). But BTS started out simple and were always hated on (didn't matter how polite and humble they are), so they marched for every bit of success they've got today, still writing/producing/contributing to their own songs today. Anyway, Back in 2015, BTS sampled JCole for their single, "Born Singer", which they've revised over the years, as they grew in popularity (I recommend watching their live performance, see how SUGA and RM rap hard in their feels).
Where JCole comes in: JHope was a street dancer growing up and danced to JCole's music. Now, JHope is 1 of 3 rappers of BTS and one of the main songwriters/producers (next to RM and SUGA), but is also the group's dance leader. JHope would share videos of himself (and sometimes, other BTS members) freestyling for fans (aka, ARMY), and called it "Hope on the Street". He also released a mixed tape called "Hope World" (always embodying "hope"), which he's also well known to be about. Anyway, this single from JHope is like a continuation of "Hope on the Street", only now, JHope's in a place in his career (and you know, BTS are considered global legends in their own right) where he can have a music video featuring JCole, and JHope gets to dance to JCole within it. It's seriously a dream come true for JHope, who describes JCole as a kind "hyung" (elder brother in Korean).

That was so beautiful detail and clear.
Through your writing I could literally feel J-Hope's heart, his struggles, his passions, his growth and his love for J. Cole.
You have should a "special gift"

This is j-Hope’s goodbye song to his music fans because as a male citizen of South Korea he has to do his mandatory military service before 30. He’s 29. It interrupts their career, but every male in Korea must do it. So this song is what he is leaving us with until he comes home. J.cole is his favorite rapper so he worked hard to get a collab with him. I know you’re just meeting j-hope but This is like ultimate dream ending to this chapter of his early music career

JCole means a lot to JHope.
"On the Street" is JHope's Goodbye to ARMY (BTS Fandom) before enlisting to his Mandatory Military Service. He produced the song with and for "His Muse" Cole.
JHope (Jung Hoseok) is a South Korean Street Dancer & Rapper. He is one of 3 Rappers and the Dance Leader of BTS.
BTS are Major Rap fans, consisting of 3 rappers and 4 vocalists. They started as a Rap Group back in 2013. Their Journey is nuts bc it is the ultimate Underdog Story. They went from all 7 members Sharing one bedroom, recording their 1st album in a garage, no funds, small company near bankruptcy, to being who they are today.
RM (Rapper, BTS Leader, Main Writer, Producer)
    JHope (Rapper, Dance Leader, writer/producer)
& Suga (Rapper, Main Producer, Writer) -
they put so much emphasis on their respect for Hip Hop & Rap.
    Please check out these songs.
"Hip Hop Phile" release 2014.the 3 rappers pay homage to their inspirations in Rap.
"Born Singer" 2013 is cover of "Born Singer"
Jhope Solo projects are "Hope World" (mixtape) & Jack in the Box (album). You two would not regret exploring BTS music.
    Thank you!

sharing @T Tucker's comment from another comment section:
"J Hope started as a street dancer and was very much influenced by J Cole often dancing to J Cole tracks. He's mentioned him several times in some of his rap lyrics. He actually met his idol for the first time at Lollapalooza last summer. This song is his gift to fans as it's the last for awhile since he's about to serve his two year mandatory military service. It's a full circle moment for him, from growing up dancing to J Cole, to dancing while J Cole raps in his own mv. J Hope respectfully paying homage to his idol by giving him the spotlight in the song......"

J-Hope is using a lot of intentional symbolism in this video (the side street and intersection from what I understand is inspired by an early J.Cole video, the subway corresponds with JColes bars and the subway stop that inspired Jay Zs moniker, the journey through the streets, through the underground and to the pinnacle (rooftop) where he can finally meet up with his inspiration. He started as an underground hip hop street dancer (thus the underground scene) inspired by the Culture, and has always claimed JCole as a Muse and major inspiration...that's why he gave him 32 bars and danced while he rapped...he came full circle while also leaving this gift for his fans and paying homage to HIS OWN IDOL. DOPE

Fun Facts for those who don't know.
J.Cole is j-Hopes biggest influence/inspiration and muse. JHopes album "HOPE WORLD" is a play on J.Coles first album "Cole World". The BTS song "Born Singer" is also a play on J.Coles song "Born Sinner". The Avirex fit jhope is wearing is also homage to J.Cole. The street jhope was on at the beginning is the SAME EXACT street J.Cole filmed his "SIMBA" music video on. And jhope dancing during Coles verse is because jhope before BTS used to dance to J.Cole songs back in the day.. The visual easter eggs and homage paid to J.Cole in this by jhope is insane. Shows his genuine love for a GOAT like J.Cole.
This whole collab is legendary and will be cemented in history forever.. This a big W for Kpop and HipHop

Jhope is distinguished by being far from K-pop and a lover of old school hip-hop, as he is descended from the street dance culture and the ancient original art of hip-hop. J-hope is one of the few distinguished people in Korea, and this is what made me obsessed with his songs, their strong rhythms, their lyrics, and so his last album jack in the box is such a masterpiece
And this song OMG THEY BOTH ARE AMAZING 🤯❤️‍🔥

Hi, i am back. Good reaction, ty. Classic JHope. i liked this. Great fit. Lots of memories. Made me nostalgic. J-Hope's dancing while J. Cole is rapping is really something special. Remembered debut Danger BTS MV. Saw call backs to old BTS MVs. On my 2nd listen i was teary eyed. But i was fine with u. Been playing this song all day on Spotify. When i watched this I thought of my city NYC. But than i 2nd guessed myself and thought i was wrong. But a moot of mine msg me and she said the whole street area is around Chinatown and the train station J-hope was dancing in is at Delancey St and Bowery. And then he was riding those older trains that used to run b4. And he was walking out of the Bowery St station that had the J and Z trains on the sign b4 meeting up with J Cole near one of the NY bridges. Also I remember he had a couple of flights last year between Korea and NY/the US. Possibly the one after Palooza was when he did the mv filming with J Cole. So i was right. This made me so happy. =0} It is NY. =0} The boy is army to me. Just like the girl in Jin's song was army. So glad u liked it. =0} Borahae. -NY USA 2019 Army💟

He was dancing underground while J. Cole was rapping on the roof, and in the end, JHope comes to meet J Cole at the top. This may represents J-Hope's journey from the bottom to the worldwide top, from the time when he danced to J. Cole's rap even before joining BTS to the today when he can make music with his muse. I'm so happy for him.

A couple of things: the alley is the same alley seen in J Cole’s mv SIMBA & the subway station jhope is exiting at the end of the mv is the Bowery Station J -Z. This is where Jay Z took his name. There are other Easter eggs, too.

Some Easter Eggs and Info: On the Billboard is the Chicken Noodle Soup Car, and the Words ''It's my Call'' and he is walking the Streets, that J Cole walked in his Debut Music Video Simba. Hobi is wearing Military Dog Tags. Hobi used to dance to J Cole's Songs when he was still a Street Dancer, and after a listen to Friday Night Lights, he started writing songs and making his own Beats . He even named his first Mix Tape Hope-World after Cole-World, and his name is a play on J-Coles Name. That's also the reason he gave Jermaine so many bars in his Song, to represent his walk on the streets from where he started and to now, joining J Cole on Top of the Roof.

This song is J-hopes farewell to BTS fans, the Army, before he join the Korean Army, which is mandatory in Korea. The kid at the beginning is representative of J-hope and Army saying bye for now. His verse was short, so he could pay tribute and respect to an artist he has admired for a long time. Hence Hope World, Cole World. It's a beautiful thing that they had this opportunity to collaborate before J-hope start his new journey. 💜

Love your reaction !!! Love that you came in with respect for j-hope and bts without having heard much if anything from them. I wish he had a longe verse too!!! But it’s mad respect and humbleness he afforded Cole here by letting him take such centre stage. J CASA below said everythinggggg haha so just my added two cents, what I’d recommend you watch if you’re interested in jhope/bts rap line : for j-hope, I'd recommend Arson (the lyrics sorta mirror Cole’s here), his lolla performance, his SICK freestyle dancing vlives, and for bts see UGH and Deang but definitely alongside the dktv explanation vids to understand the word play and nuances in the Korean lyrics! Keep going, you’re great :)
P.s. you may also like to see jhope meeting j Cole for the first time !! It’s really really sweet

I had to come thru to this spot tho and show love cuz U reacted to this! J-Hope has looked up to J Cole & has been his icon since he was young. If U didn't know, the other 2 rap line (RM & Suga) were underground rappers back in the day too.
I swear, these talented young men, BTS, has literally worked from the ground up.. LITERALLY‼️ They have come so far... I'm so glad U got to see Hobi's work, especially wit this 🔥 collab🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼

"I got chills with this one, I know J-Hope is an already established artist but the way they portray the MV and build he verses, it's almost like a hungry youngling asking for his one shot and a tired king aware he can't sit on the throne forever. J-Hope is still on the street level/subway talking about what he's doing and what he needs to accomplish, while Cole stays solid on the top of the building, all alone and thinking about the path he's already taken. Then at the end, they meet, but as a fan giving his idol the flowers he deserves, not a rapper trying to steal the crown for himself."
    |This was so unexpected to me. Everything about it shows passion and craft. It's beautiful watching two worlds collide, and the one thing connecting them is hip-hop." --WaspParagon (Ye stan & Swiftie)

jhope got his own whole version of this.
    J.Cole is jhope's biggest influence/inspiration and muse.
Jhope's mixtape "HOPE WORLD" is a play on J.Cole's first album "COLE WORLD." The BTS song "Born Singer" is also a play on J.Coles song "Born Sinner." The avirex fit j-hope is wearing is also homage to J.cole. The street jhope was on at the beginning is the same exact street J.Cole filmed his "SIMBA" music video on. And jhope dancing during Cole's verse is because j-hope before BTS used to dance to J.Cole songs back in the day. The is like a visual homage paid to J.Cole by j-hope to show his genuine love for THE GOAT like J.Cole.
