Kay's patterns and tutorials are so easy to follow. I was a frustrated sock knitter until I found Kay. I successfully knitted a pair of socks in her Austin Sock pattern using the two at a time method. I'll continue to use this method for knitting socks in the future.
Hi Kay tutorial. Thank you. Very clear. I put remove able stitch markers between the socks so I don’t knit the socks together..lesson I learned the hard way. I also put a marker on sock #1 so I don’t get lost😉
I've been following this tutorial for 5 days now, coming back to it when I'm not sure what to do next and I can now proudly say that I've passed picking up my gusset stitches! Such a good tutorial! I'll be coming back to it, because the part about how to turn the bag/needles so the yarns don't get twisted was just too much for me to learn while also learning a new skill, haha. I started out with good intentions, but I decided to just go with it and untangle my yarn from time to time. I don't think I will ever knit socks one at a time again, because I get second sock syndrome terribly.
This video is so helpful! Managing 2 strands of yarn IS the biggest obstacle to trying TAAT for me, and I think I could do your method. But, my biggest takeaway is not doing TAAT until after the cuff. Game changer! I find getting the cuffs going fiddly on magic loop to begin with, so doing that plus managing the yarn is nightmare inducing. Love it. Same with how you did the heel - this makes total sense to me. So glad I watched this and am encouraged to try it. Thanks bunches.
I just started knitting, I started with socks because that’s what convinced me to kit as a crocheter & I thought this could be so much harder then it is!!! I’m excited for my next pair
Nice explanation of this process, two at a time, explained really nicely and CLEARLY. This was my first time watching a video on two at a time socks. I had no interest because in my mind that was just too much. Annnd, I'm still working on mastering one at a time socks, particularly knee highs. I like knee highs for the winter. But turns out when you've been blessed with the right teacher, the process is easier than one thought. I feel like that if I wanted right now I can do two at a time right now. But everything has its time and I will surely refer right back to this tutorial. Thank you very much. And happy moving whenever that shall be. And a blessed Holiday Season and a blessed balance of the year John 3:16-18.
I love the idea of completing each cuff separately then putting them on the cable. I think it would also work well for toe up. Just complete the toe separately then put them together on the circular. Thank you so much for this.
Thanks so much for the great video! I'm doing your SSC for the first time this year and just started a pair of socks for a friend and wanted to do them TAAT with one of your patterns and this is a total game change for me!! So excited...I'm already half-way through the first cuff. Thanks again!
Thank you for your hint about how to gauge how much yarn to use for the cast on. I tried it and it was perfect. I love tips and tricks from successful knitters.
I use the same method for turning your needles in opposite directions but when I finish with the yarn for each sock I drop it in the front of each sock so when you turn your yarn is already in the back. Great tutorial!!!
Thank you for creating/sharing this video! I'm still looking for the perfect method to do socks. I think heel flap/gusset will fit me best and couldn't find a tutorial to do them this way. I'm starting a pair now for my dad using this technique. So excited!! Your video is super clear and very helpful from beginning to end.
Just the tutorial I was looking for! I needed to see the logistics of the two at a time without needing specific knitting instructions! Bonus that you’re a continental knitter because yarn management can differ slightly! Off to check out your channel now! :)
Thank you so much for this variation! I am an inexperienced but adventurous knitter who can seldom finish a project without either ripping it all out or ripping down to a lifeline. With this cable-dpn-cable method, I don’t have to tear out both socks when I screw something up. The added plus is that I can establish a rhythm before the two socks end up on the circular needle. I think this method is just so inventive. Thank you!
As a knitter who casts on with my thumb I was struggling to cast on doing TAAT on the long cable. Thankfully I found this and realised I can start them separately and then transfer. Also my name is Kay too!
Thanks for this video! I almost always do two at a time socks, toe up or cuff down but I had never really taken the time to figure out the heel flap and gusset without separating them on two different needles. This was very helpful!
THANK YOU! This is just what I was looking for! I want to keep my 2 socks on one cable the whole time. I needed to understand how to knit the gussets this way. Again, thank you so much!
Great video, so useful for preparing to make my firse set of socks taat. One thing I have been doing is leaving a stitch marker in the middle of my excess cable, eg for the heel, so that it can slip all the way down but I can bring it back without counting :)
I appreciated your tutorial-thank you so much for sharing your helpful, thorough, practical ideas & methods of keeping track of the yarns-I’m motivated to “try” to make my first pair of socks at one time on 40” cable!!!
Uh-Mazing tutorial! I will be finishing up my second sock ever todaaaay (Wooo! Yeaaahh!🥳) and I use this same heel flap and gusset style pattern on them. This tutorial makes so much sense and I am so inspired to do my next pair at the same time! I was just talking to my knitting gals about 2 at a time last week! I am so excited to tell them today that I saw this video and am so ready for my next socks to be 2 at a time!! Let's Goooooo! ✌🧦🧶🤩🙌🙌🙌
I’ve watched this video a few times. I think I’m ready! Heel toe do so do is a favorite pattern of mine. I’ve made a few pairs of socks with after thought heels.
I’ve tried n tried, but your video looks like it might be the one. Going to wind up some yarn and give it a try. Thank you so much for taking time out of your day to do this video. * much appreciated *
Okay, I had to get back with you. I did my cuffs yesterday and started the legs. I’m doing it!!!!! I’m soooo excited. I just love to knit but I bore easily. I start one sock with the thoughts of the next and I have to try new yarn. This is exactly what I needed. Your video is so clear cut and yo the point. Thank you so very much. ❤️
HI Kay!,! WAS really looking forward to this tutorial!,,, THANKS SO MUCH, IT was GREAT! Hope I can manage it with UR Help! Have the right size needle now,,,,,and going to give it a try!! Loving all these tutorials,,,and summer sock camp!!! Elaine🏡🏡🏡🏡
Hi Kay. I am a newbie for your channel. Love it btw. I still cannot do it on the stupid magic loop. I have tried soooo many times. Good job. Also. Love your sock pattern. So pretty!
3:53 I suddenly feel fortunate for having been gifted two skeins from the same dye lot (I would never *buy* two skeins for one pair of socks, but I do not have the patience to wind my skein into half-cakes, so I'd probably end up pulling one from the center and one from the outside, and therefore having the stripes go in opposite directions)😅
I've always wanted to try two at a time socks. This was such an inspiring podcast I cast on and started a pair of socks. Thank you so much for your help!
Great tutorial. I need to try to see if doing the cuffs one at a time will lessen the frustration for the first few rows :P I actually knit both heel flaps at the same time. But the heel turns and and first half of the gusset stitches I do like you do.
I like how you do the cuffs separately starting out. I tried the other way and had to rip everything out. Can’t wait to try this. It’s so hot in Washington state I’m not doing much knitting...no air conditioning.
Using this tutorial I’ve just started my first ever TAAT socks, I’m very excited! I just wondered why you don’t use this method right now when making socks? Do you prefer working one at a time? Thanks!❤
I think I can do this! Your videos are so clear and easy to follow. Thank you for continuing to record them. BTW, what size bag are you using? The small or the large?
Thank you so much for this. It’s going to help me so much. 1 thing though u mentioned decreases on the instep needles. We only decrease the gusset stitches though - right? Also when u cast on only cast on 1/2 the first sock stitches all of the second sock turn then do the rest of the 1st sock stitches. There r videos explaining it better than my description. I love ur videos!!!
Thank you for excellent tutorials! I've just started my first pair of socks and thought, "why not go for it" and do two at a time. Your instructions are very helpful. I'm at the gusset decreases and find working the N2s cumbersome with so many stitches (I'm making a large size sock). I've tried redistributing some stitches to N1 and that helps but is there a slicker method?
Do you have a tutorial on the twisted cuff you did on these socks? I just started knitting about a year ago, and I am barely on my second set of socks. I so much want to knit more and that cuff is beautiful!
I’ve always been scared of doing heel flap and heel turn but your tutorial makes it seem so easy. I’ve bought your vanilla pattern and I’m going to give the two at a time method a go. I’ve done two at a time toe up with a German short row heel. Excited to do sock knitting again
Do you start the decreases right after you pick up the first of the second set of gusset stitches or after you've picked up all gusset stitches and are working in the round again?
Happy Scrappy Sunday 😊 Thank you so much for a wonderful tutorial! I love to tip about putting the cakes in a project bag. Which size bags do you use for your TAAT socks?
It is so much less fiddley to do your cuffs at least 5 rounds first so you have something to hold onto as well as orient you. Thank you for sharing! Xo
Hi Kay, Do you have written instructions for two at a time on magic loop on same needle? I am on my second pair of socks following your instructions, but I would like it to be written out. I have the The Vanilla Sock pattern printed out, but would like two at a time written out. You make is so simple. I am willing to pay for it. Thanks so much Chris
Nope, I do not have two at a time instructions written out. You’re just doing the counts from the vanilla sock pattern, none of that has changed. And then I go through each step for two at a time in this tutorial. 🧶 🧦
I am looking forward to learning to knit two at a time! My question is...do you have a reason that you knit the cuff on the 40" and then transfer it, then transferring it back to the 40"? Would you knit the cuff on same size dpn's and then transfer the cuff to the 40'? That would be only one transfer per cuff. I have never done it before so I am just curious.
I wish you had also explained the cast on method for two at a time on magic loop for enquiring minds. Cast on 32 stitches for first sock then 64 for second. Then pull loop out at 32 stitches second sock and cast on last 32 for first sock. That makes it clearer as to why you wanted to move the first cuff to dpns etc.
Sorry! It’s not something that I enjoyed doing when I’ve done it before, so I do it this way. With that I’m not proficient in casting on in the other manner and honestly didn’t feel comfortable enough with it to explain it. This video is just going over the method that I use for two at a time socks. ❤️
I put a light bulb stitch marker on my cable as I work the heels. It marks where the cable loop should be on the sock in waiting in case the loop disappears due to my inattention.
Great vid, Kay. Just waiting... to receive a sick yarn order from Desert Vista to knit along with you. Hoping I can make a pair that will actually stay on someone’s feet. ! Will go down to size 0 and 60 stitches my next set!!! Are there any secrets I don’t know about avoiding baggy socks??
No big secret, you just have to find the cast on and needle size that works to give you the best fit. Finding your perfect fit can be a bit of trial and error!!
This video is great appreciated. But I admit to being disappointed in not have the cuffs done as well. They may be a bit fiddley, but I sure would like to have to seen how it is done. Otherwise, I feel like I'm still not getting the full picture of TAAT. Having said that, the rest is truely great. I'm back (this is my 2nd time watching). It's a very good video.
Thank goodness somebody asked already. I got a 60” (no idea why anymore) or up to a 30” interchangeable and was wondering how I was gonna manage this without buying more. Guess I’m buying more anyway!
You should have plenty to make a pair of socks. It can all change if you are doing a pair for someone with very large feet. But just generally speaking that’s plenty of yarn.
I make shortie socks for myself and I can get 2-3 pairs out of one 100g ball of yarn and I wear a women’s 8 knit on a size 0 so you’ll have for sure enough!
Hi! I love your vanilla sock tutorial! Very detailed and helpful. Have you ever done striped socks where you changed colors rather than using a multicolored colorway? If not do you take video requests? It would be so amazing to see how to weave in multiple color changes on socks, where to start new colors vs where it's ill advised etc. Hobby Lobby has these great Yarn Bee - Pigment and Fiber sets.
please tell me if this is right so i can understand sorry very slow learner and i have to tell you my way to see if it right so i understand,,,,,,,,so you put the scale grams then you divde that number in half by 2..then divde the cakes into 2 equal balls .......right or wrong ? i bought a kicthen scale in walmart 25 bucks it big ....it has lb , kb i dont understand what that means and what it is for ? it has grams 2 .....and it the same for light weight and socks yarn ..put it on grams and divide that number into 2
Kay, you're a born teacher....I should know....I taught for 37 yrs. :-)
Finally I don’t have to take one sock off the needles to work on the heel! You are the best! Thank you so much ❤
Kay's patterns and tutorials are so easy to follow. I was a frustrated sock knitter until I found Kay. I successfully knitted a pair of socks in her Austin Sock pattern using the two at a time method. I'll continue to use this method for knitting socks in the future.
Sure, as long as you have enough time for all the unnecessary stuff. I just ff until she actually starts the tutorial - almost 12 min in.
Nope. Almost 17 min.
Hi Kay tutorial. Thank you. Very clear. I put remove able stitch markers between the socks so I don’t knit the socks together..lesson I learned the hard way. I also put a marker on sock #1 so I don’t get lost😉
Finally feeling brave enough to try two at a time socks I have two balls of knit picks felici so I'm so glad you have this video!
I've been following this tutorial for 5 days now, coming back to it when I'm not sure what to do next and I can now proudly say that I've passed picking up my gusset stitches! Such a good tutorial! Omigosh Kay, thank you!! Been searching high & low for a tutorial on heel flap, gusset 2x. You are the sock Queen!
❤️❤️❤️❤️
Your tip to put the cakes in a little bag and just flip every time was everything!! It made all the difference! Thank you so much!
I just started knitting, I started with socks because that’s what convinced me to kit as a crocheter & I thought this could be so much harder then it is!!! I’m excited for my next pair

Definitely gonna try this since I’m notorious for completing one sock. Maybe now I can whip up some actual pairs of socks... lol!! 😁
Thank you!! Thank you!!
I have studied several (SEVERAL) videos on how to do this and yours is the best. Thank you again.
Definitely makes me want to make more socks now that I have conquered the dreaded Second Sock Syndrome

Thank you, Kay, you're the fairy godmother to my first socks ever 😁
I just tried this and it worked! Thank you for an amazing tutorial
HI Kay!,!

Fantastic tutorial. Clear, easy to follow......loved it. Thank you so much. Now to cast on my second pair of Heels Toes Do Si Dos!
❤️❤️❤️
I just found out your 2 at a time tutorial. It now makes so much sense! Now to get some self striping yarn! Ou any yarn…lol
You read my mind! Looking forward to making my first pair of socks on one circular. Thank you!
Hi Kay. I am a newbie for your channel. Love it btw. I still cannot do it on the stupid magic loop. I have tried soooo many times. Good job. Also. Love your sock pattern. So pretty!
One key - keep needles pointing to the right. That one tip changed everything for me! From an experienced knitter, it was a Godsend.
Thanks, I was just looking for it on youtube. Lots of greetings from the Czech.
I've always wanted to try two at a time socks. This was such an inspiring podcast I cast on and started a pair of socks. Thank you so much for your help!
Thanks for this. I like to the the afterthought heel. I will do them separately after i knit the socks
Thank you so much for this, Kay! Amazing tutorial.
Fabulous video tutorial! I love it and have already downloaded your pattern and subscribed to your channel 🤗❤️
Great tutorial. I need to try to see if doing the cuffs one at a time will lessen the frustration for the first few rows :P I actually knit both heel flaps at the same time. But the heel turns and and first half of the gusset stitches I do like you do.
I am going to try this have been wanting to do this for a couple of years🙂
Love the tutorial Kay. Clear instructions.
I like how you do the cuffs separately starting out. I tried the other way and had to rip everything out. Can’t wait to try this. It’s so hot in Washington state I’m not doing much knitting...no air conditioning.
Awesome. I have learned so much. Wow. It made so much sense.
Fabulous Kay! I have always taken the heels off and worked separately....so helpful!! :0)
Hello from Mounds Illinois and I hope that you and your family are well.
Excellent tutorial and tips!!!
Using this tutorial I’ve just started my first ever TAAT socks, I’m very excited! I just wondered why you don’t use this method right now when making socks? Do you prefer working one at a time? Thanks!❤
I love your tutorials. I always learn something new.
I think I can do this! Your videos are so clear and easy to follow. Thank you for continuing to record them. BTW, what size bag are you using? The small or the large?
I’m very excited to try this method because I have yet to successfully knit two socks back to back that are the same size. 😂😅
I like how you separate the two cuffs and transfer them. Great idea!
This all looks so clear now , I think can do it now, but one question . Why work both heel flaps at the same time too?
Thank you so much for this. It’s going to help me so much. 1 thing though u mentioned decreases on the instep needles. We only decrease the gusset stitches though - right? Also when u cast on only cast on 1/2 the first sock stitches all of the second sock turn then do the rest of the 1st sock stitches. There r videos explaining it better than my description. Came here just to see how to do the heels two at at time! Thank you, it was very clear!
Such an amazing video tutorial, thank you!
This makes soooo much sense! Thank you!!!
Your tutorial is great and so clear. I have one question, why not knit both heel flaps at the same time?
Do you start the decreases right after you pick up the first of the second set of gusset stitches or after you've picked up all gusset stitches and are working in the round again?
Happy Scrappy Sunday 😊 Thank you so much for a wonderful tutorial! I love to tip about putting the cakes in a project bag. Which size bags do you use for your TAAT socks?
It is so much less fiddley to do your cuffs at least 5 rounds first so you have something to hold onto as well as orient you. Thank you for sharing! Xo
Hi Kay,
Do you have written instructions for two at a time on magic loop on same needle? I am on my second pair of socks following your instructions, but I would like it to be written out. I have the The Vanilla Sock pattern printed out, but would like two at a time written out. You make is so simple. I am willing to pay for it. Thanks so much Chris
Nope, I do not have two at a time instructions written out. You’re just doing the counts from the vanilla sock pattern, none of that has changed. And then I go through each step for two at a time in this tutorial. 🧶 🧦
@@CrazySockLady I just got confused with the marker in the heel. Thank you for answering me. That is helpful. Chris
Now i am ready to try this method .
It’s just my preferred method of doing it. 🧶
How do you join the first row of the cast on sock when casting on using the 40” circular needle? My mind has gone blank!! Thanks
Thank you!!! But how do you avoid ladders in magic loop
Pull tighter on the 2nd stitch on the needle.
@@CrazySockLady really I just meant to have you mention why it feels so fiddly at the beginning not show it. Love your videos.
How did I end up backwards after finishing the heel flap? My needles are both facing to my right (RS).
Got it now! Just got brain in gear! 😊
Sigh... sock yarn...
Perfect. Thank you so much! Beautiful everything ...:)
Do you cast on and finish the whole cuff when you are doing different color cuffs?
Great tutorials. Thank you so much
What brand of thread do you use, please!
Is a 32” cable too small for knitting two socks together?
I wouldn’t recommend anything smaller than a 40” for two at a time socks.
Thank goodness somebody asked already. I got a 60” (no idea why anymore) or up to a 30” interchangeable and was wondering how I was gonna manage this without buying more. Guess I’m buying more anyway!
Can you send me the link for the bag please.
Where can I purchase the Daisy Girl and Co project bag? And what size is it?
From Daisy Girl, I believe they have an Etsy shop. ❤️
Thank you
Thank you for sharing it’s clear Thanks God bless you
I was watching you measure the yarn and have a question with two skins of yarn weighing 90.718 grams exactly you could make a pair of socks right?
You should have plenty to make a pair of socks. It can all change if you are doing a pair for someone with very large feet. But just generally speaking that’s plenty of yarn.
Thank you so much for replying back it's good to know that I can do something with those scanes of yarn. I do like watching your you tube Channel.
I make shortie socks for myself and I can get 2-3 pairs out of one 100g ball of yarn and I wear a women’s 8 knit on a size 0 so you’ll have for sure enough!
Great video and helpful tips thanks.
I have a video where I show how I weave in end on scrappy socks. I think that would help what you are asking about. ❤️
GREAT tutorial!

Yes you split it into 2 equal cakes.
Do you have chapters or book marks embedded in your videos?
