Excellent tutorial. Clear and brilliant camera work. You do the right balance of talking and demo. Some people chat too much and go off topic. You’re perfect. Thank you.
Been knitting for years. And had a bright idea to look up knitting two socks at the same time. You saved me. Tysm for sharing this gem with the world ❤
One idea I’ve just had is to use two different colours as you have and then knit again another pair in different colours so it’s easier to learn and you end up with two pairs of matching colours in the end! Definitely good for Xmas pressy knits. When you’ve got a few to do in the same size. Or if you want to treat yourself to a couple of pairs.
Excellent tutorial! Clear and concise, my favourite kind ❤ Not too long, no waffling, no confusing explanations and a great video demonstration. Good job, you.
I've just watched a few minutes and amazed the way the first sock last stitches are cast on. I had no idea of that. I think Im going to like this tutorial as you don't say any more than you need to and your pictures are very clear. Hopefully I will be able to do this. Thank you.
That was the clearest two sock start up I have seen! I will tackle this again with my next pair. I’ve tried to learn the two at a time cast on before. I can manage to do the cast on, but then getting the actual joining to work in the round, and then keeping track of where I am in the round gets a bit sketchy. I will master this technique! No more lonely one sock WIPs!
Even though you did this video 5 years ago, I found it on a FB post In "Sock Knitting Addicts". So much has happened in the world in 5 years- hope all is well! I've only made two pairs of socks but both one at a time and each sock is a bit different from the other. I appreciate your in depth directions, close ups and soothing voice. Can't wait to try this!
I agree with @nicolas-- your tutorial is excellent! I absolutely did not get this (2aat) until I watched your tutorial. I plan to take advantage of the tutorial showing how to: Magic loop (1aat) because I will know I indeed finally have this skill under my belt. My most favorite knitting are socks!!!!
Thank you so much for this video. In 10 minutes, you taught me how to master the basic magic loop technique. So far, I have knitted a pair of vanilla socks with variegated yarn. I just started a new pair last night. I absolutely love this technique, as I have suffered from second sock syndrome in the past. Lol! Initially, I used Addi cable needles. They twisted and tangled so much, that I ripped it loose 4 times. When I used my ChiaGoo cable needles, I went from start to finish. I've viewed multiple RUclips videos on 2AAT magic loop technique, and yours in my opinion, is the best. No using multiple cable needles, no transferring stitches to another needle, and I love that you join in the round by simply "knitting". Great video! Thank you so much for sharing. 😊❤️
This is absolutely wicked-cool. I’ve been knitting sleeves at the same time since I was a kid, but never socks; never knew it could be done! I wish I’d learned this when I was 28 instead of at 68! 😊 Thank you so much for this excellent tutorial. ❤
I’ve tried to learn this in the past, but gave up. Lol. I think I can finally live the dream now of completing a pair of socks at a time. Best video ever for magic loop direction/explanation. Thx so much!!!!!
Wow, this is absolutely excellent. I have tried to follow so many different instructions and ended up in a total muddle (own fault). These instructions are so clear, simple and precise and will be my 'go to' instructions from now on !!. Thank you so much. Now to watch all your other videos as well
I was tempted to try only one sock using this technique, but I talked myself out of it. I know myself. The chances of me completing a second sock is zip. Lol! So her video was perfect for me.
Thank you! Very clear and easy to follow. I've been knitting Magic Loop Top Down 1 sock at a time on ChiaoGoo 24". Just need to buy longer cable set now for TAAT. Excited to get going on it. 😊
Excellent video. I was struggling to learn magic loop knitting two socks at time. You made is so easy. Cast on stitches seen this method first time. Thank you.
I found that to start casting on the last set of stitches it was easier to jam my needle under my keyboard in front of my to keep it from waggling around, then it was easy. Maybe I'll get used to it but I found that the second sock on the needle slides to the back and it's more tricky to keep the first stitch on that round taut to stop laddering. I need to practise more to get used to it. Knitting the first ribbed section was a breeze though, it's just when the socks gets heavier.
had started 2 needle cast on then thought oooh should do both sleeves at once, slid onto cable needle then realized can't do 2 cast on the way you show casting on but I am a stubborn Swede and tried. had working thread at odds. diddled about with straight needle while fighting off cat who was trying to kill yarn, put it down to go to the bathroom and realized it was the exact same.Frogged it back and did long tail cast on, all was ok though really wanted a better finish on cuffs . Finished the first round and realized cast on for XL AND somehow had the cable in a figure 8 and macreme happening to boot. I am giving up and going to bed...3 hrs on the same length of yarn is enough. BTW this is hand spun 3 ply and I have been knitting 50 years so if you are new to knitting and it doesn't work the first or 4th time, sleep on it, have the tea at hand and remind yourself how horrid the last 6 inches of the second sleeve is and have another go. if you don't do various techniques often you lose muscle memory or mash things up. The worst that can happen is you decide to live in sandals and large shawls!!
Cheryl Carlson I was having the same issue with trying to do a color work cowl. The cowl is absolutely stunning. The instructor made it look (if not easy) do-able. Til I tried to do the 2 color I-cord cast on. I started it, messed it up, started over. Rinse, repeat til my eyes were bleeding and I was ready to throw the thing across the room. I realized the following day that my skills are not quite there, but I will re-visit it when I’m not such a klutz with color work.
Generally, yes. If the socks are mirrors of one another you'll just want to be sure that you're maintaining the opposite pattern on each sock but there's no reason you can't use this method for any traditional top down or cuff up socks. Good luck!
Hi. I just wanted to ask. I'm planning to use this method for knitting my sleeves in a top down raglan. Since the front and back are on 2 diff sides, will not there be a small gap/loose story in between the 2 sides which later show up as a poor finish?
question. i started 2 separate toe up socks on 2 different magic loops (so one at a time). is it possible to transfer both on the same needle and knit 2 at a time after a few rows?
Absolutely! You can either knit them onto the new needle, or just slip them. Make sure you have both of your socks at the same point (i.e.: the working yarn is at the beginning of round). You can decide which one is Sock 1 and Sock 2 but theoretically they're both the same so you don't have too hard a decision. With your new needle, and the working yarn of Sock 1 at the right side (as if you were going to start a new round) you will knit across or slip the sts of the FRONT of sock 1, then knit across or slip the sts of the FRONT of sock 1. At this point you will have both fronts of socks side by side on one needle. Then you can knit or slip the sts of the BACK of sock 2, and finally you can knit across the BACK of sock 1 (making sure that you fold your needle as if you were working magic loop so that you don't end up with the fronts and backs of sock 2 being separated by the folded cable - if that makes sense). Then you would continue to knit in this order: front of sock 1, front of sock 2, back of sock 2, back of sock 1. Best of luck and happy knitting!
@@kirstenensine I figured it out. Try keeping the working yarn in between the needles, not coming from behind or in front. It took me way too many cast ons tii oh figure it out but I got there.
Absolutely - I LOVE the Chiaogoo "red" needles that you see in the video. They are a metal needle with a metal cable that is wrapped in a nylon of some sort. They don't kink and the stitches always glide smoothly. I have found that the first time I use the needles (i.e.: right out the original packaging) it's best to wipe the cable off with a damp cloth. Whatever process they use to put the wrapper on the cable has a small amount of residue left behind and its "sticky". Not to the touch, but to the yarn. If you don't wipe the cable off it's ok; it goes away after just a couple of rows but that's been my experience. Best of luck and happy knitting!
Hannah Mccormick Absolutely! You’d maybe want to use a longer than 40” circular for comfort (maybe a 60”) but that would really depend on wide the sleeves are.
For one thing, you can have one set of circular needles with a very long cord, instead of multiple sets with varying length cords. So you don't have to buy several different lengths of circular needles (especially if you buy 1 kit with interchangeable needle sizes that screw onto the ends of the cord).
Excellent tutorial. Clear and brilliant camera work. You do the right balance of talking and demo. Some people chat too much and go off topic. You’re perfect. Thank you.

That idea sounds great until you get used to knitting 2ata time. I'm going to try that. And will have made to pair of socks when all done
Brilliant idea !!
Excellent tutorial! Clear and concise, my favourite kind ❤ Not too long, no waffling, no confusing explanations and a great video demonstration. Good job, you.
I can’t believe I’ve been putting this off for so long. You really made this so clear and simple thank you so much!!!
I agree, the description is perfect. Thank you.

Thank you for just diving right in & showing us. I casted on tonight & have a nice start going. I love it.
So much easier! Thank you so much. I was almost in tears thinking I couldn’t get this. Your guidance is so clear. Bless you!🙏🏽
You make this process look so simple, I’ll have to give it a try. Thanks a bunch and happy knitting.

Great to hear! I'm so glad it was helpful for you!
Thank you for the clear explanation of how magic loop works! I know where to come if I want to try it out now.
Best video that explains this technique. Thank you so much.
I’ve found my newest fav knitter to learn from!!! Thank you so much for all you do!!!
This is so sweet! Thank you! I’m glad the video was helpful for you.
Using this method for some leg and arm warmers. Thank you!!
Excellent and clear demonstration, thank you!
I’m knitting my very first sock endeavor on the magic loop and look forward to advancing to the 2 at a time. Great job explaining this.

After watching several several videos this is finally the one that stuck! Thank you so much! Magic loop is fun now :D
Great visual demonstration and excellent, clear step-by-step instructions. Thanks so much.
Thank you SO much for making this video. I'm finally going to be able to cast on two at a time socks.
❤❤this is the best 2aat sock tutorial - wowww 🎉thank you!!! Excellent instruction 😊
You are a great teacher, thank you! I was just gifted a double strand sock blank and am looking forward to diving in with your help.
THANK YOU! Quarantine socks here I come!
How did they go?
Thank you for this clear video, this will be my first time trying this technique!
You're welcome! Have fun with it and let me know if you have any questions!
This is fantastic, thank you for such a clear and concise video!
Super clear. Thanks so much! This is much less intimidating now.
This will help me through my first sock-project 2aat! Thank you for your very clear explanation!
Clear, concise, educational. Lovely, this!
So informative and easy to follow! Keep it up!
You did such a wonderful job of showing how simple this is to accomplish.❤
Thanks, Dionne! Enjoy working 2aat!!
I got it even with the cat attack again. right number of stitches and used 2 needle cast on, used double point needle as stitch holder. Whooo hoo!!
Thank you so much for this lovely and helpful video! I'm not scared any more! Lol
You're welcome - yay for fear-free knitting!!!
Best cast on tutorial I've seen
Thank you so much! I'm glad it was helpful.
You are a great teacher! Thank you.
Thank you! You made it clear from start to finish. I think I’m brave enough to try it now!

Amazing video, you explain everything so well. Thank you ❤
Excellent tutorial. Thank you
Wow! I’ve been struggling to do this. I think with your video I might have it. Thank you

Tack för jättebra instruktion 😉
This just blew my mind.
Could you do this with a fairly simple color work mittens pattern? How would you manage the thumbs? Thank you!
So helpful!!! Thanks very much for posting!
Gamechanger!! Thank you for this video
Thank you, that was so helpful. I’ve been doing two at a time toe up socks but couldn’t figure out how to do two starting from the cuff.
Thank you ! Thank you! Would have had less of a struggle if I hadn’t been using size 0 needle!😂
Soooo helpful!!!
Can any sock pattern be used with this method? Love the tutorial! So easy to understand!

What cord length would you recommend for starting 2aat?
Arik Payne I like to us a 40” cable for 2aat socks.

Your amazing thanks 🙏
Love ir way of cast on
Can you do this with gloves as well?
Can you use a fingerless mitt pattern that is knitted flat and knit it in the round 2aat?
I can so long as you are comfortable transposing a knit-flat pattern to one that is worked in the round.
What step am I missing that will join the stitches of each sock so they are in the round?
I have the same problem!🤔
@@kirstenensine I figured it out. Try keeping the working yarn in between the needles, not coming from behind or in front. It took me way too many cast ons tii oh figure it out but I got there.
Do you have a favorite brand of circular needles?
Absolutely - I LOVE the Chiaogoo "red" needles that you see in the video. They are a metal needle with a metal cable that is wrapped in a nylon of some sort. I'm worried I will lose track doing half a sock at a time 😳 like I will keep going through pattern on sock two rather than restart....
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
could you do this with sleeves ?
Hannah Mccormick Absolutely! You’d maybe want to use a longer than 40” circular for comfort (maybe a 60”) but that would really depend on wide the sleeves are.
Would this work for sleeves?
Absolutely! You might want a slightly longer needle if your sleeves are very wide at the top but I always use magic loop for sleeves! Good luck!!
I just don't understand the purpose for Magic Loop.
For one thing, you can have one set of circular needles with a very long cord, instead of multiple sets with varying length cords. So you don't have to buy several different lengths of circular needles (especially if you buy 1 kit with interchangeable needle sizes that screw onto the ends of the cord).

I generally like a 40” circular when I’m working 2aat (32” circular for a single sock). Happy knitting!
