State sponsored investigative journalism. Let' be honest. Dennis Okari is the same guy who did 'Child of a lesser God' days after the Garissa University attack. He never accepted the fact that Muslim solders lost their lives in the attack. He went ahead to do a sought of an 'investigative' piece in Jubaland about charcoal & KDF. Remember the trip was sponsored by KDF; a party he went to investigate. We all know how embedded journalism works. This piece of innocent refugees was the last nail on his journalism incompetence. I rest my case.
Dadaab is just a dynamite waiting to explode.the more Kenyan gov dilly dally the harder it is to bring this situation to an amicable end. Just shut the camp down and send this people back to their country, in Somalia there is Amison, they can protect them there. This camp is not goof for them and worst to host kenyan Somali community.
i respect your idea but the problem raised here by the reporter is the police in Kenya, they take money to smuggle weapons and Alshabaab individuals....i wonder when the police in kenya will stop taking bribe and the security of the kenyans is at stake? on the other hand Amisom has been attacked and defeated in so many occasion whom will they protect? for many refugees they don't know other place than the camp and they lived there for over a quarter century. in my View Kenya police department has a lot to do when it comes to combating these real threats posed by groups like Alshabaab so that cases of terror is minimized.
+ moha deck Here we are talking of Kenya national security and the chaos of Somalia becoming a Kenya long lasting problem. Fact is Kenya police will never stop taking bribes as long as they are poorly paid. The presence of camp make it easy for police to extract money from refugees and also Al Shabaab sympathizers n facilitators. Solution is just simple, shut it down, UN can create an enclave inside Somalia to protect returnees if Amisom cant- which by the way i dont agree- Amisom can protect this people in their own territory.
The majority of the Somali refugees in these camps clearly qualify for citizenship. It is good to give them the choice to register them selves as Kenya citizens so that a living system is introduced as their record is removed from the list of refuees. The fate of the remaining members that opt for refugeeship can be then discussed so that decision is made to paving way for better solutions. The camps are strog hold and major operation center for the terrorists claiming peace in our country.
I would love to hang out with that John Gachie guy. Looks like a bowl of fun!
