It's a fun roll for sure. I read something very interesting in the Billings Rollography just this morning. In the Cook/ Montgomery interview, Cook told him that after QRS acquired Imperial, they had a staff of 6 full time arrangers who worked on the rolls and Cook would sometimes do the final edit. The arrangers knew of his success and would and could mimick his work to some degree. He knew them well once production moved from Chicago to New York. Fascinating.

@@SevenPlus65 Interesting. That would explain the rolls that don't quite hit the mark in terms of style 🤔

@@PiotrBarcz Actually, it was a well planned maneuver and style hit the mark and it lies in its marketing. You see, QRS was selling rolls for $1.25. US was selling rolls for $1. Imperial was selling them for .75 each. After QRS bought Imperial, they were now in control. QRS was using a bigger gear for stepping, while Imperial was using a smaller gear. QRS had to use more paper because of it and they had to keep up a certain standard. Imperial could use less paper, the arranging staff and thus, offer 2 grades of rolls. Going into the depression, it was genius. There was still a great amount of quality in the Imperial rolls that wasn't meant to be compared with QRS. Well planned, was intentional and no one was slacking. It's partially the reason QRS was able to survive the depression when dozen of other companies went out of business. It was a smart smart move. Cook acknowledged that in his interview 😊

@@SevenPlus65 I meant missed the mark as in the rolls sometimes sounded a lot like Cook but on closer inspection you can tell there's something missing from said rolls for them to actually be Cook's full work ;)
Also the shorter step rate is an interesting observation. QRS and Imperial used the same step rate however, early on the perforators ran on 21.5 punches per inch like Aeolian as opposed to exactly 20 punches per inch shortening rolls by... oh, 5 percent or something like that.
The truth is that difference didn't do anything of detriment to the music as everything was still mastered to 24 punches per beat for most foxtrot rolls. Notes still repeated fine.
      However Imperial:
Wasn't using as good paper I don't believe
      Didn't bridge the rolls
Made shorter rolls overall, shorter arrangements
Had less elaborate boxes and cheaper flanges etc.

Yes, and all that was by design once purchased by QRS. When they were selling at 60% of the cost of a QRS roll, there had to be something that either made them cheaper or something that made QRS more expensive to justify the price difference. Kortlander was smart.... he knew he needed strategy to stay in business. Besides that, if we couldn't compare an Imperial roll to a QRS roll now, we wouldn't know how much better a QRS roll really is. It's perfect for our hobby and study 100 years later.

Is there a version of the song like where someone sings it

I was able to find a recorded version with vocals. I've added a link to that video in my description here. If you like songs of this type, I might also suggest "I Don't Mind Being All Alone" that I posted about a month ago and "I Never Knew What The Moonlight Could Do" posted about 2 months ago. Thank for watching!
