    We decided to react to the Official Music Video since it adds a lot of context to the song.
    However, as some have noted, this version is missing the later part of the guitar solo. So I went back and listened to the extended solo, and have provided my reaction to it below:
    I've talked about being a fan of longer solos if they can bring out an emotion in me, and I am impressed here for that reason. I wasn't immediately captivated by it due to it slowing down a lot in the middle, but the high piercing notes in the later part make me feel a greater sense of urgency, like there is something at stake being lost to the monetary ills described in the song. The riff of declining notes that transitions into the vocals feels stronger here, like we keeping reaching higher (and more uncomfortable) peaks before returning to what's familiar. I am a fan! ~Liam

    I know its not the format of the channel, but it really helps to listen to the entire Dark Side of the Moon album straight through. This song juxtaposes nicely with the following song, "Us and Them". The entire album is a sonic exploration of the human condition - life, death, Time, money, madness, war & poverty.

    You should've played him the album version instead. It's longer and better. The video/radio version cuts out a big chunk.

    It is possibly the most recognizable song on The Dark Side of the Moon album. An album that went 14x platinum in the United Kingdom and 9x in the United States, has charted for 990 weeks, sold over 45 million copies worldwide, making it the best-selling album of the 1970s, and the fourth-best-selling album in history. One in every fourteen people in the US under the age of 50 is estimated to own, or to have owned, a copy.
    Roger Waters wrote the lyrics to demonstrate irony and criticizing the power of money and the capitalism system generally "Money interested me enormously," Waters remarked on the twentieth anniversary of Dark Side. "I remember thinking, 'Well, this is it and I have to decide whether I'm really a socialist or not.' I'm still keen on a general welfare society, but I became a capitalist. You have to accept it. I remember coveting a Bentley like crazy. The only way to get something like that was through rock or the football pools. I very much wanted all that material stuff." In another interview, he said he was "sure that the free market isn't the whole answer ... my hope is that mankind will evolve into a more co-operative and less competitive beast.
    Borrowed from Wikipedia also it's mainly in 7/4 time.

    Pink Floyd used the film in concert.
    Videos in the pre-MTV era were used by many bands, like the Beatles, instead of live appearances on TV shows: Ed Sullivan, Top of the Pops, etc.
    But Pink Floyd used them for multimedia performances. This was the band that made light shows a big part of their act in the Psychedelic period of 1967-1969. Films were the next step.
    I don’t know if you picked up the unusual time signature of 7/4 with a refrain of 4/4.
    This was the big hit of the Dark Side Of The Moon, 1973.

    Pink Floyd is known for the giant circle above and behind the band in concert, they have always had video clips, psychedelic art and animations projected up on it. It is also a huge part of the light show when not having videos on it. Yeah the Sax solo always confuses people but they do have a few songs with Sax solos. Enjoy! Check out some of Gilmour's 1978 solo album for some of David's solo work

    The "video" was the film used for projections (onto a circular screen) during the band's live performances. True videos didn't exist until Queen released "Bohemian Rhapsody" in 1975.

    • @swanvictor887
      @swanvictor887 26 дней назад

      sorry Ian, that's not true. Groups were making "Pro-Mo" films way back in the 60s. During that era, TV went mainstream and every developed country in the world needed footage of the latest 'Hits' as it were and of course, bands couldn't be everywhere! The Beatles made lots of Pro-Mo's, all on You Tube, but of course they were followed by all the other bands.
      Ex-Monkee, Mike Nesbitt also claimed to have made the first 'pop-video' with his song 'Rio' and he claimed to have invented the format for MTV. Certainly he Did use Video...but that wasn't really the first 'pop-video' as it were.

    🎊 Pink Floyd’s “Money”…barely gets a 3 Star rating and saxophone solos aren’t my cup of tea?!? Hundreds of millions of people can’t be wrong…but, somebody’s got to be on the other side of history…now I know what he looks like…and it took me 69 years to see one. Thank you for allowing me to see a…”unicorn,” of sorts. (Please, keep him away from Supertramp and “Goodbye Stranger” …Liam needs to lead a life without being exposed to THAT guitar solo…and no Stevie Ray Vaughan, either‼️)

    I really like that your diving into the world of PINK FLOYD. I have to say most people need to know that MTV or videos like this one do not do justice to the band IMO. Sure Album reactions are great to open the eyes, but Live performances are really the way to go. Ecos 1 and 2 are a good way to go.

  • @thechannel6363

    The film (video) was made for the live concert performances that Pink Floyd did for the tour in 1973. It was projected on the iconic circular screen above the stage. This was 7 to 8 years before music videos became mainstream. And it is a short version of the song; the guitar solo is way more layered and interesting on the album version. And you should really be reviewing the whole album to this guy and not in bits and pieces. He’s really not getting it and seems to be missing out on the overall experience. Money was only released as a single based on US Columbia Records insistence to meet sales goals.

  • @Kuesel68
    @Kuesel68 27 дней назад

    As others pointed out as well the song lost a lot because you played the cut down single version, which takes a lot of the musical momentum of the original 6.5' version out. At first (before the release of the album) the song was much longer (8-10') in its live version with more guitar and especially more background vocals in the middle part. Gilmour and Waters after separating used to play this longer version again at later concerts. The video was made for these concerts as I saw it as well for the first time at an 80s gig of the band.
    Music Videos already existed in the 60s - The Beatles for example developped them in 65/66 (Help, Paperback Writer, Strawberry Fields Forever etc). Pink Floyd in the 60s used projections of colours and shapes on the walls and only in the 70s started to produce videos for their tours. The most famous video made for promoting a song is still Bohemian Rhapsody from 1975. For a lot of critics that was also the starting point of the genre itself which went into full bloom with MTV especially between 83 and 86 (Take on Me, Money for Nothing, Thriller).

    Let's talk about factory "A." Workers work in factory "A" and get paid a wage agreed upon by the worker and the management. That's fair, right? Then someone, usually a jealous type who doesn't have money, comes along and says "Hey, the workers are being taken advantage of" because they aren't sharing in the wealth that the management sees from factory "A." Is that really true?
    Somebody had the idea. Should they get paid? Someone created the product. Should they get paid? Somebody planned and built the factory. Should they get paid? Someone pays the bills, pays the workers, pays the insurance, and pays for everything the factory needs to make the product. Should they get paid? The biggest thing? The workers never share in the risk if the company fails. They don't lose money. They are just out of a job. Should those who share in the risk of a company get paid for taking the risk? So in the grand scheme of things, how much did the worker really do? Remember that he's already being paid an agreed upon wage.

    Schoolboy error, that was a single 'radio' edit that cuts out the breakdown and the 2nd half of the guitar solo.
    The album should be listened to as if its a single 47 minute track.
    Listening to it like this is like reading one chapter in a book and trying to make meaning out of it.

    You are both misguided as to interpretation and ranking. The "Dark Side of the Moon" album is one of the highest selling of all time, as it is pure musical and lyrical genius. Not only have the world's people voted with their wallets, but it has also been entered in the US Library of Congress as one of a list of most influential recordings of all time. And as others have pointed out, this is a severely shortened version of "Money". The album is a complete work, like a progressive rock symphony. Each track flows into the next and there is a story, Taking one track out of context is well incomplete - to be charitable. the track prior to this is a treatise on how we deal with death in a very unique and emotional way. The track following this addresses war , conflict and indifference.
    And no, it's not some hippy guitar sound, that is an electric piano, with a wah-wah effect. The effect is normally used for guitar, but Richard Wright decided to use it on the Electric Piano part to great and innovative effect. And you missed a crescendo, because the section with the incredible crescendo was cut out of this version. Watch this live version for a better taste:
    ruclips.net/video/rgmce_XukRQ/видео.html ( Pink Floyd - Money (PULSE Restored & Re-Edited) )
    Oh and it was released in 1973. There were no conflict diamonds, nor Margaret Thatcher. Most of the worlds gold and diamonds came from South Africa at the time, which those images were from. It's as much an indictment of everyone as of capitalism in general summed up in the line "share it fairly but don't take a slice of my pie"... The rich, the middle class and the poor alike all bear some blame for the division between "Us and Them" which is the title of the next track by the way.
