    It’s okay if you don’t love this album. It is definitely a grower, when I initially listened to this album it didn’t stand out as much either, but now it is my favorite TS album. And even if it doesn’t grow over time for you, it’s okay, we all have different opinions and musical taste, I just loved that you were so honest about it.

    I had the opposite reaction to this album. My first listen i was GAGGED. I thought it was MILES BETTER than folklore or any other albums I've ever heard. Then a week later it fell to my top 5 of fav Taylor Swift's albums😭. But after a few weeks i was obsessed again😭 (and to this day it still is my favorite TS album of all time😌)

  • @carlihans
    @carlihans 7 месяцев назад +1

    the man singing in the background of "cowboy like me" is marcus mumford! since this album was created during the pandemic, taylor didn't have access to the long pond studio like she did during the recording of folklore, so marcus invited her to his house so she can record the songs there. during the recording of cowboy like me, marcus popped in and taylor asked him if he wanted to be on the song. it doesn't say ft. marcus mumford because he's mainly backing vocals, but it's nice to know that he contributed. this story was told during the surprise/acoustic set of the eras tour when taylor brought out marcus as a special guest to sing "cowboy like me" on the guitar as a duet instead of simple backing vocals.
    "cowboy like me" is my second favorite track on evermore (tolerate it being first, obviously) because the storytelling is out of this world. it's supposed to be about 2 con artists who fall in love, and keep tricking each other. in the end, their love overpowers their trickery. i'm assuming that she called it "cowboy like me" because evermore feels like a more modern folk/country album. it's clear that evermore is an album that grows on you, considering it didn't strike me at first. now, it's my favorite album by taylor! the more you listen to it and try to understand the lyrics, the easier it is to see how deep the entire album itself is.

  • @WhatIsNormal146

  • @amandajm
    @amandajm Год назад +3

    the thing i love most about cowboy like me is the switch “i’m never gonna love again” makes like you think its “this ended badly im ruined for anyone else” at the beginning but at the end it’s “we are in it for as long as forever will give us. i will never love anyone else you’re it for me”
    also don’t sweat not loving every song right away. it seems like not having the context bothers you but the context doesn’t necessarily come from following tabloids but making connections between songs. you’re coming in on folklore and evermore but like none of this was really new info it’s just different perspectives to stories we’ve heard from rep to folklore

    • @mostannoyingscaramain
      @mostannoyingscaramain 11 месяцев назад

      Nahhhh the point of cowboy like me is that it IS up to interpretation, so it could mean either one - "I'm never gonna love again" is meant to be able to mean both. "Now you hang from my lips like the gardens of babylon" fit this perfectly because no one truly knows if they ever really existed, just like no one knows if this "love" ended up well. "Forever is the sweetest con" can also go either way. They're both conmen and the narrarator themselves express the risks and yet still decide to take the risk, we'll never know how it paid off but there is beauty in the attempt of love itself.

    Loved this reaction! I totally get if you don’t love every song at first, I didn’t either. I think eventually evermore (as an entire artwork, not just individual songs) settles in and clicks. It’s now my favorite :)
    For me the song evermore is about seasonal depression. It’s gotten me through so much and I think when you look at the lyrics from the perspective of someone overcoming seasonal depression then it becomes very cathartic and hits so hard. I also think that the song ivy is about the love affair between the poet Emily Dickinson and Sue Gilbert. Sue married Emily’s brother so that they could be closer. I totally recommend the show Dickinson on Apple TV, which the song is in. I also think it’s interesting how the two bonus tracks are like two opposite endings for the album. RWYLM is about being stuck and not able to leave where it’s time to go is about finally leaving. That just elevates the whole ‘endings’ concept of evermore. I wish I could explain just how much evermore means to me but I just can’t put it into words 😭😭 anywayy, can’t wait for the Red TV vault!

    Love the honest reaction💫In a way on evermore it feels like Taylor describing how much pain shes in in her calm level headed mentality(catching my breath, staring out the window) and Bon Ivers part feels like when loud toxic thoughts sneak in your head trying to justify the pain like we can get over this im in pain but it was worth it (dog days, whether weather be the frost,all the costs, it was real enough) only for Taylor to realize she accepts what happened because it was what she needed at that time in her life (when I was shipwrecked, get me through, you were there) but now shes moving on. Almost like an internal duet

    If you have not already done so, you really need to go see the Era's Tour movie ASAP before it leaves the theaters (if it's not already too late in your area). Seeing the movie will derail your ability to do "first time" reactions (especially for Midnights), but I hope you will ignore that minor issue because not every reaction has to be a first time reaction. Hopefully the movie will still be showing for at least one more weekend in your area by the time your read this comment! It won't be in theaters much longer for it's first run. (I do expect that, eventually it will start coming around every year to certain theaters - like Rocky Horror does - but please don't miss your opportunity to see it in theaters now.)

    Woah i never knew closure sounded like that! I have different headphones on and can hear sounds i never have before and now I know even more i dont like this song😂
    But i always go back and forth on Folklore and Evermore which one i love better😅 and im back to Evermore! It has to be my favorite for sure besides Rep...always in my Rep Era.
    I love how further along weve come you got crabbier and crabbier😂😂 You're exhausted..definitely put this album on in background and just relax. 💜

    I actually prefer Evermore just slightly more but I am Lover Lover so I guess I am the odd one as Lover is the least loved album in most TS Circles. I prefer to get to the ending of Evermore vs the trying to figure stuff out of folklore. However I also didn't like several songs on first listen but after several listens I loved them.
    Also it the TS song I most relate to in her entire discography, "its time to go." Living in times and culture of almost toxic positivity, the message from almost all it that winners never quit and the best people are those who hung on. But in many situation letting go and moving on is the smarter better option, especially in toxic situations where saving yourself self (sanity) even if you lose everything else.
    The thing I like most about TS is that every song is atmospheric and matches what you are supposed to feel. Repeation is anxiety, mourning, loss, happiness, euphoria, etc. I think that some people prefer certain beats that makes music enjoyable but to me songs are meant to invoke certain feelings. Sort like Eastern/Asian music theory. Like the broken machine on closure seems to have second meaning related to her old label, and how the whole song feels unsettled like the feeling where you think thing are over but not settled - the whole "i Don't need your version of Closure" and the feeling of music not giving a feeling of closure, things are still up in the air.
    As for Evermore song - I like the feeling of the music and voice matching the lyrics - to me it is
    her being in a deep depression due to state of world and also reflecting on her own personal battles being so sad about it,
    then he pops into her mind and thoughts of him and the voices of another version pulls her out of the circular thinking and gives just enough to pull herself out of that depressive cycle,
    when we go back to her alone there is still echo of his voice but thing are back to being calm but in peaceful rather sad way.

    I cannot lie I wanted to post a super thoughtful and emo comment but I just burst out laughing "this is pretty. *full stop* I don't know what it's about" and had to stop and comment. Fern I love you. evermore (the song) is one I thought would hit you lyrically, because as someone with depression it's one that feels far too personal for me, in a way that's different than something like "this is me trying" which feels more present and effortful, evermore feels like the melancholy existentialism of my mind in my worst bouts of depression. I remember being pretty out of the album too actually, everything after ivy was a blur upon first listen and I was exhausted... and then evermore happens and I was unprepared and emotionally wrecked. "I replay my footsteps on each stepping stone
    Trying to find the one where I went wrong" "guess I'm feeling unmoored can't remember what I used to fight for" "and I was catching my breath staring out an open window catching my death and I couldn't be sure but I had a feeling so peculiar that this pain would be forevermore"... but then bridges us to the end, and in my mind it's about finding the version of yourself who wants to truly live again and having faith in yourself "when I was shipwrecked I thought of you, In the cracks of light I dreamed of you (To be certain we'll be tall again) It was real enough to get me through"... and we end with the most beautiful mindset switch, that transition to finally having hope and releasing the weight and "And I couldn't be sure, I had a feeling so peculiar, this pain *wouldn't* be for evermore".
    ANYWAYS that got emo and I'm oversharing and overexplaining... watch me finish and have you get it completely. But being tired and hungry and out of sorts doesn't lend to taking in lyrics lol. I get it.

      Thank you SO much for this comment ! I truly feel I lost my focus at this point in the reaction and as there were some songs that didn’t hit my right away (which of course is normal. I have a new format of reacting now which I’m excited to test out in my next Taylor reaction) but yes those words make SO MUCH sense. And tbh even in other videos when there have been songs like this (context wise) I have fully resonated! I truly think I my brain had clocked out ! I’m so grateful for this comment going over these lines because I see it 100% I resonate and relate so much !!! Xx appreciate you!

      @@FernStone Aw hi, thank you for even replying! I completely get it, this song happened to hit me (it's a rare one up there with "nothing new" and "mirrorball"), but in all honesty I've tried filming my "first reactions" to Taylor content and I don't know how you do it ha because I cannot take a song in lyrically + sonically upon first listen, let alone with context(like most taylor songs require lol). Let alone figuring out how I actually feel about it or if it's a grower! And sometimes a song doesn't hit at all and that's totally normal too! I'm so glad if my comment helped the song to resonate for you, lyrically at least maybe shining a new light, even if it's still not for you sonically. I'm so glad you've found a new format for reacting that you seem excited to try (hopefully one that's better for your ability to tap in and get the most out of the lyrics and listening experience because I know you love both but sitting and filming must be so taxing mentally and physically with your back), and I can't wait for you to continue your Taylor journey. Appreciate you taking the time to reply so thoughtfully love. xx

    "A byline is the line in a newspaper article that names the article’s author. Despite being left out of her lover’s story, she is drawing hearts around their name, which further indicates the one-sidedness of their relationship." - so sad. Think its my favourite line of hers.

    Also, the title track, Evermore, is soooooooooooo much better performed on piano only, by Taylor only. I love Exile- I think it will grow on you too- but Bon Ivers part in Evermore completely ruins the song for me. You should look up Taylor singing Evermore as a surprise song on The Era’s Tour. Should be on RUclips or even TikTok. You’ve got to read the lyrics because it’s not the best recording, but it REALLY makes the song more enjoyable and quite beautiful. The lyrics are 🤌🤌🤌

    I love the Bon Iver songs from Folklore & Evermore - theyre my favs lol!
    But its ok, she makes so much music and not every song is going to be for everyone.
    I don't really like Happiness, Dorothea, Cowboy like me...the 2nd half of the album is less my taste.

    For me, the highs on Evermore are higher than the highs in Folklore but the lows on it are also lower than Folklore's.
