    Wow, most effective and simplest solar disteller. I think, if the bottom of the lower bottle should be balck in colour and the upper bottle must be wrapped with alumium foil to get the sunlight reflected out, the output can be increased.

    • @japreet_kah
      @japreet_kah 2 года назад +1

      Would the foil not reflect the heat away and make it less effective?

    • @briank592
      @briank592 2 года назад +4

      @@japreet_kah the foil blocks the suns radiation coming in but then blocks the convection loss from leaving. it would prb be best just to put half of it with foil, facing the sun, then on the bottom put foil on the oppisite side to let in sun and keep heat loss minimun, while on the top you shade the sun side but let heat loss out through the other side. best of both worlds.

    • @user-bh3ew6ii4g
      @user-bh3ew6ii4g 2 года назад +2

      @@japreet_kah In the upper bottle where the distilled water collects you want it to be cooler so the steam turns into water faster. You could also put a wet towel over it. For the bottom bottle (dirty water) you do want it to be hotter for the water to turn into steam to make it more effective.

      But that's desireable on the top part.
      The best way is to increase temperature on bottom to increase evaporation
      And to decrease temperature on the top part to increase condensation.
      How you accomplish this is up to you...

    Living in Texas, the inside of a car can get to 130 degrees even in the winter. It seems logical to me that the process would work really well in the front seat. Especially with direct sunlight.

    Now that's what im looking for! Simple, make it bigger, put in a drain at the bottom of the upper reservoir, into a suitable clean container. Cant depend on bottled water forever. Need to learn to make it yourself.

      you should get this more coverage, there are a lot of people out there without clean water and this is probably the perfect solution, (assuming it also filters out bacteria and viruses... maybe have a lab analyse the distilled water first)

    • @kitsurubami
      @kitsurubami 7 лет назад +5

      +Omar adbul hadi It absolutely does not filter out bacteria and viruses. This is only first stage filtration, you must boil it afterwards.

    • @kitsurubami
      @kitsurubami 7 лет назад +2

      +Elise Delfin YES you absolutely need to boil it for safe drinking! Don't let anyone else here tell you otherwise. You can get extremely ill or even die as a result of drinking contaminated water. Water from the tap is chemically treated to be safe to drink. Your distilled water should taste very neutral. The rate of condensation depends on the temperature difference between source water and where it's condensing as well as a few other factors like the angle of the condensation surface. Goodluck with your science project. Research evaporation and condensation online for more information.

    • @kitsurubami
      @kitsurubami 7 лет назад +6

      +Elise Delfin If it's for a science experiment, take tap or drinking water, add food coloring to dye it, and show how the dye can be separated from the water. The only water that is safe to drink without first boiling is tap water and bottled water. All other sources of water are too dangerous because there can be virus or bacteria in the water that are small enough to be carried with the water vapor. If you wanted to use lake, stream, or rain water, you would need to boil it after distillation before drinking it. For your science experiment, you could use muddy water, and just not let anyone drink the result. Show them that it's clear, but don't drink it. Solar distillation cleans water but does not sterilize it.

    If one were to simply boil the dirty water in the begining (assuming that plastic bottles are not being used but something like a metal bottle with and enclosed top and say a copper tubing, would be resulting steam, then condensed back into "clear: water be safe to drink then? No way a solar still (not a filter) would work that fast, and if it did you'd surely see some condensation on the inside of the bottle. If you have access to clear PET bottles, just disinfect water with the SODIS method. You'll only have to distill or filter water when it's chemically contaminated.

      No, while evaporation, the water vapours just does not get concentrated at the center. They also get spread to the edges as well.
      Just place a half filled water bottle inside a car during sunlight, you will find water vapours all around the bottle not just at a single concentrated point.

      I'm trying it now and I can see some condensation happening at the top bottle, so if I make it drip, I assume I can gather some filtered water

      Maybe you didn't tighten caps up properly or maybe you didn't use the right tube. Or it could be that the tube has a leak or a hole somewhere. I'm just giving you possible reasons why it may not work.

      আমার রান্নাঘর yes you can. I designed this to be used with any pipe as long as it is hard pipe. If it bends the water will drain back down.

      Mr. Chuyyaa yes plastic is harmful. but glass bottle is the best one to use...this idea is great.

      Yes and no. PETG (what most water botles are made of) has a really high melting temperate (Nearly 200 degrees F) It will degrade however PETG is considered food safe by the FDA. Most plastic bottles (aside those marked as BPA FREE) will leach chemicals into whatever the bottle contains.
