Ms Susanna Malkki has such a presence on the podium, she's definitely one of my favorite conductors. She has such amazing energy in this piece and really brings it to life.
She definitely knows how to command a presence and let the audience know that this is a classical masterpiece. Somehow, I think Gustav Holst himself was in attendance in spirit and weeping in joy at how his music has been played through the centuries.
This is in my oppinion the best perfomance of this piece ever. I like the pace, the precision of the players and the quality of the recording. Would love to have it on Apple music as spatial audio. The conductor is amazing!!
I absolutely agree, it’s quite an overwhelming experience. It’s such a wonderfully emotive and powerful piece, and such a joy to witness it in capable hands.
In 1992 (or thereabouts) I moved from Saturday morning string orchestra for kids to the local "Youth" orchestra. I was a violinist and this was my first time in an orchestra with more than just strings. This was the main piece in my first concert. Sat at the back desk of the second violins, with the brass behind me, thumping this magnificent and terrfiying tune, the terror, the power, the emotion, the fun, the EVERYTHING of classical music was drummed literally into my soul. I hardly ever listen to it now - it's been replaced in my heart by other pieces, allegedly more sophisticated - but hearing it now, I am back onto back desk of seconds, terrfiied and ecstatic all again.
I watched this in my band class in ELT and the part where the conducter was shaking her head was super funny. My band teacher told us that this song is played in 5/4! WOW!!
Grande Finlandia.
You have NOT studied astrology. Therefore, you can't even say "it's silly". And if Holst (actually VON Holst) was able to "perfectly represent the planets", it was because he DID study astrology, encouraged by a friend of his, Clifford Bax, brother of composer Arnold Bax, back in 1912, shortly before he started composing the suite.
@@lolllololllo Agreed. Without wanting to get into a fight (otherwise pointless and for which we could both be banned from this channel... very typical Mars stuff, by the way), I would like to recommend you to read a book on this subject: "The Night Speaks", by Mr. Steven Forrest. Better if you can read it without prejudice. Sometimes what closes our eyes to reality is our fear of being convinced by something that "most people" consider nonsense... and making a fool of ourselves. Read it and then we'll talk. It's ok if the book "doesn't convince you". Best regards.
Call me dumb if you think John Williams got no inspiration from Mr. Holst. This is the start of cosmic outer planetary classical music. Tomita would probably agree I think. Seven minutes of absolute bliss ...
Absolutely LOVE this! Susanna Mälkki, I admire your attitude. Orchestra, WOW! This would be a big hit in Harry Potter: The Deathly Hallows:the final battle. But still, LOVE this!!
Brilian orchestration ever write especially for brass, percution and strings section. Susanna maikki breakthru between Karajan, Ozawa, Levine version. Thank.
After listening to this breathtaking performance , I might have a dream I may dream of getting into Mars orbit , From Tokyo of the Land of the Rising Sun 🇯🇵
It’s so powerful and terrifying. My mom killed herself and I found her body in her apartment. I can only visualize her being tormented in her own mind when I hear this piece, fighting merciless demons no one could see but her. Music says things words can’t begin to illustrate. I miss her and feel sorrow that she had to fight and fight and fight and fight…

No doubt about it..

I keep watching this just for Susanna.
I do not think I would ever want this woman to be upset with me. The level of commitment to what she is doing is almost scary.
The Planets is an old favorite of mine, I’ve listened to it for 40 years
This conductor OMG 🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩

Love this performance! I love how intense and focused everyone is in this piece
Really sets the mood!!
Love how the conductor emulates my emotions by letting the music wash over her

We were learning about this song yesterday and everyone started laughing even the teachers!😂
the conductor brings the piece to life 10/10 favourite suite EVER🤩🤩🤩😍😍😍😁😁😁
Bravissima, she's truly gifted. I look forward to listen to her in Paris on next March
*INCREDIBLY BASED GUSTAV HOLST*
Beautiful piece of music superbly played, with a nod to the absolutely sensational conductor. Wonderful.
4:38 After staring blankly at the cupboard for a considerable time, you decided to confront him.
I really enjoy her conducting style. Super intense and fun to watch.

Ikr! Crazy

Highly underrated comment
Damn! What an intense performance! Full employment for brass players!!! 😁😎

@@ggjen And then you stand there staring unbelievably at the empty wrapper till 4:38, thats when shit hits the fan really. Lmao.
She looks like she`s fighting all the Death-eater`s at once… 😂
2:58 it looks so cool❤
I wasn't at this performance but I've seen Mars performed live at the RAH and the floor shakes.
The best version I've heard.
Susanna Malkki 's conducting is powerful and substantial; this recording, IMHO is second only to Charles Dutoit and the Montreal Symphony.
Astrology is silly but, somehow, Holst represented perfectly The Planets.

@@aguador67 I will not study something not scientifically based.

Strong and precise leadership by Susanna Mälkki.
Susanna Malkki; wow, just wow. Absolutely fantastic.

精典乐曲.激情震撼,
指挥很潇洒.优秀
Hans Zimmer defintely takes a lot of inspiration drom Holst for his Gladiator score
This melody is the brave's lullaby , and
the cradle of brave's soul
is it 'brave' to go to someone's war?🙏
think the conductor needs a safety harness strapped to the rails :p
This played during the Blitz of London
I loves her planets song!
I don’t have many higher dreams than to be the conductor of this song.
Magnificent music.

4:30 traditional grip for concert snare?
When this is the first piece you throw on in the morning some one is in for a bad day. Lol

It's war. Go see her in Jupiter :)
The music has truly gotten to her
Thrilling awesome
It is not widely known in the west that the North Korean traffic police also run an orchestra conducting school.
